A few days ago I was bitching about being in the 600 ranks and someone recommended chessbruh's habits series to me. I watched the first three episodes and have taken the lessons to heart but honestly they seem just as bad as what I was doing before, and my rank isn't budging.
>>536133937post games and let us analyze, that's the only way
>>536134935There's nothing to analyze, I just make retarded moves. Ever since I started doing the "habits" (which is just basically play with you're brain off) I just throw even harder and am down -60 just today.
>>536133937I know you're still blundering pieces, you need to stop that. If you can avoid hanging your pieces and you take your opponent's hanging pieces, you will be 1000 easily.
>>536136545Nigger I’ve been telling faggots how retarded the “habits” are for decades. Go to the archive and read some of my posts
>>536136665I am, I just need to calm down and stop playing impulsively. Everyone says you can be 1000 easily, and that's why I feel like a retarded child.>>536137547There is nothing to fucking analyze, all you're gonna say is "ya you're retarded". I try to learn from mistakes but I've always been garbage at that.
>>536138694Quit crying like a faggot and lrn2study. Have you ever improved at anything before? Chess is the same, you spend time practicing and learning and overtime your performance will increase until you hit your natural ceiling at which point you will need PEDs to progress
>>536140718>Have you ever improved at anything before?Nope. I've either been naturally good or cried. That's my whole life.
>>536141138Well, if you’ve ever read one of these threads before you know what I’m going to say. Hit the gym and read the Soviet chess primer
>>536138694>Everyone says you can be 1000 easilyI didn't mean that it would be easy, but that if you stop dropping pieces then you will certainly be able to play at that strength.Learning to not drop pieces isn't easy, you need to pay attention and force yourself to think before you move. You don't need to just think in a general sense in whatever manner you're used to thinking about the position, but to make a conscious effort to check whether your move is hanging something.Eventually it will become more or less automatic, but it requires effort at firstAlso solving some chesstempo tactics every day should help you, at the low levels there are a lot of basic hanging piece problems, hanging mates, simple pins/skewers/discoveries/promotions, etc. which should all become second nature
>>536142810>Soviet chess primerwhat is this?
>>536143692Exactly what it says.
>>536143678I will keep trying to do this, I know I'm already developing these skills. When I was on ADHD meds I actually got up to 900 very easily a few years ago. But then I stopped taking them and stopped playing for a couple years and now I'm below 600 as of today.
>press new opponent button>be lichess>I'll do you one better...>the same opponent!

>>536143841this nigga ain't gonna do that, too lazy to calculate, just read his posts, he's acting like a bitch. >>536138694Post them, we are gonna say you're retarded BUT we are gonna give you the reason and HOW to fix those mistakes, that's the difference. Don't be scared, if you don't want to post your username, download the game as a gif and then upload that to lichess or just edit the fucking gif idk
>>536148104here's my most recent game. I thew away a bishop for free, and that cost me the game because I didn't look
>>536148613and another one I just played and managed to not throw
>>536148613>>536149576ya you're retarded
>>536148613imo you played extremely well for a 600, you were crushing until you hung your bishop. Even then you could probably have gotten a draw. I think you should have sac'd the rook for the promoted queen and tried to promote your remaining pawn (keeping your king nearby)But obviously the main problem was the classic <1000 blind spot of playing a mostly half-decent game, then losing concentration and playing an egregiously horrible blunder. You can improve that a lot with a week or two of effort.
>>536148064Calm down fabi
>>536150860This is after two weeks of effort, I must have been even worse before. But thank you. Perhaps just going back on ADHD meds is the best option since I keep losing track of myself
>>536148613Play Nc3 against that to make him lose tempo, at this level most people would go for the check and you'll laugh at them by developing and they will crumble easily. professional advice for my correspondence player friends: During the opening phase, try to figure out your opponents sleep schedule. Use their flag to get a rough guess, but pay attention to when they have a large gap between moves, basically when they go to bed. The trick is to send your move while they sleep, so that when they wake up in the morning they are more likely to play their move. Morning brain is significantly weaker than evening brain, you will notice a difference if you can make this happen.

professional advice for my correspondence player friends: During the opening phase, try to figure out your opponents sleep schedule. Use their flag to get a rough guess, but pay attention to when they have a large gap between moves, basically when they go to bed. it appears some newfags are triggered by correspondence chess. Newfrens, please understand that this is a correspondence friendly general. It is, unequivocally, the white mans time control. Cheaters do not occur anywhere near as frequently as you would think, even on .com. Brownoids tend to flock towards blitz/bullet and the more uncivillized time controls, as it were. The white man finds refuge in the slow pace and relaxing environment of a correspondence analysis board. This is something incomprehensible to the brownoid and the brownoid adjacents such as slavs and italians.
>>536503025
>>536505787>Cheaters do not occur anywhere near as frequently as you would think>let me open my opening full book>let me see this tablebase hereYou don't think in those games, you just pretend to think, a game must be here and now, not 3 weeks or 1 year "thinking" about a move
>>536488632or you just mate in 2
>>536506468Thankfully its not mutually exclusive with other time controls, you can play a few games of correspondence while also playing live chess regularly. I dont know how long you have to make a move in ICCF but for lichess/.com 24 hours or 36 hours are the most popular time controls. One thing lichess doesnt have that I wish they did was correspondence tournaments the way that .com does. Those are also either 24/36 hours and you get put into a bracket with 7 other players and if you win your bracket you advance to the next round, its pretty fun. So in that circumstance youre not thinking for one year per move, you have to make 1 move a day in 7 different games
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>536506468ah but we redefined those as not cheating for this particular TC thus i have won the argument
>>536175157>hateGot me thinking, and I realized I don't hate chess, I just hate my opponents. It's probably why I don't play against chess engines; I'm indifferent toward them, so I have no hate to drive me to play against them.

I really need to stop playing online blitz. It pisses me off way too much. All it takes is one bad, unprincipled patzer move from my opponent in the opening for me to immediately take it as an insult and lose my cool. Which then leads to me playing even worse, of course. Then i lose to some total retard that i should have crushed easily if i just played calmly and soundly and get even angrier. I hit "new game" and the cycle starts all over again.I wish there was an option to hide everything below ten minutes on the lichess main page. Every time i play fast chess, i hate it, yet i just can't stop playing.

>don't know shit about openings>against d4 especially, you just go d5 and try to go c5 because it's cool>as white just do random development, against e4 try to do caro kann because you know the first four moves usually and then just go with the flow>literally don't know any openings, someone can tell you a name and you're like uhhhhhhhh whaaat? because you have NEVER learned them>currently 1794 chesscom, still have no opening and making up shit as you go>but you're an endgame autist>all your chess training are endgames>you beat a few courses on endgames and repeat endgame drills every day>as long as you get into the endgame, you'll win>analysis always says you suck in the opening but you're great in the endgames>wouldn't be an overstatement if you said your endgames is literally titled level>if you just learned more tactics and openings you'd easily go to 2k+>tfw every chess player you know is the other way around, knows 9000000 openings but doesn't know shit about endgames>right now drink gin with tonic and do some endgames course with a dick in your hand because endgames are amazingAny endgame autist like me here?

>>536659906Learning the endgame first is the right way to go. Recommended by Capablanca himself and books like Amateur to IM, Chess (Maizelis), etc.
>>536659906That's pretty respectable.Desu I don't think I've ever heard of a player around your strength studying Dvoretsky and having good results, but I think that's because most club players just lack the patience necessary to seriously study endgames. My endgames and openings are both pretty weak, but I'm strongly considering gitting gud at endgames and studying some Dvoretsky rather than resorting to the desperate measure of actually learning opening theory
>>536658985Just need to drill and add lead shot to base and recork. They're slightly too large to fit 4 pawns per square but he's not a player and just bought the pieces so it's all good.

anyone got any advice for managing nerves during chess games? it was never a problem for me but as i'm getting stronger i've been getting more and more nervous when i play. i'll completely ruin a winning position or endgame because as soon as i know im winning i feel this wave of anxiety come over me.
>>537016253You're better.Think that you're better. Always think your opponent is a noob and you will completely rape him. You know everything better, the opening, the strategy, the endgames. You're super underrated. You'll start winning. You being nervous comes from believing your opponent is strong and can still beat you, and that fucks up your cognitive rationale. There was an anon yesterday who talked about Nodirbek looking at his opponent as if he wanted to kill him.>>536849575That's how you need to approach the game.
>>537016662that's extremely helpful actually thanks.i agree with you, that's where my anxiety is coming from
>>537016253this advice will be less useful if your level is too high, but to build confidence converting winning positions i think you should - be able to convert basic endgames in your sleep (k+q v k you should be able to premove the win, k+r v k you should be able to win with < 5 s on your clock)- understand basic plans for converting winning positions so you don't have to come up with with original plans every time. usually this means creating a passed pawn, stopping your opponent from promoting their pawns, and promoting your pawn- give up material to simplify the position to one you can convert in your sleep- know how to identify your opponent's potential counterplay and stop it before proceeding with you plan. in some positions the opponent even if they are losing can make things tricky by giving up material to get a passed pawn that is hard to stopone thing I noticed from watching gm games is that they really take their time going in for the kill. their goal is to maintain control first, and win later. they'll make very subtle moves to stiffle all counter play before proceeding with their winning plan
>>537016145>There's been maybe 10 times in 20k games where I felt like I was playing a cheaterYeah this is the typical game knowledge of the litard, stopped reading

>>537014464>>537018529Why not both?I do have a diamond membership on chesscom, but I pay like one dollar a month for it. I use it for endgame trainings, drills, free lessons, courses, it has a vast library of useful stuff.I also use chess tempo and lichess for tactics, and listudy for blind tactics (a titled guy recommended it to me) to train visualization with calculation. For serious analysis I use EnCroissant with stockfish loaded in, it's the best analysis tool.I wouldn't pay the full price for the chesscom premium, it's too expensive. I agree it's not worth it. But if you can get it for a buck or two, it's more than worth it for the stuff it gives you if you want to learn.
>>537019689Nothing against chess.com lessons. But if I'm going devote time to studying chess, I'd rather read a book. Just a preference.I'm pretty lazy these days and mostly just play. Lichess is a better playing and analysis experience. In just the opening explorer: infinite depth, more master games, you can see how other lichess players played and how you played previously -- really useful once you have a large collection of your own games. The default analysis board interface is better, more lines, navigating between lines, the built in engine is stronger by default, etc.
>>537020456You guys conspiratard about chess.com shills but you can't tell me this isn't literally an ad. I'm even hearing it in Billy Mays' voice
>>537021340I'm just stating my experience. What did I say that is not true though?
>>537020456Chesscom analysis sucks, I prefer lichess to chesscom, agreed. And it's retarded it's not free. Stockfish is literally free. They make you pay to use an open source tool lmao.I use chesscom analysis for fast two minutes analyses after each game (can turn on the infinite depth with stockfish 17.1 in the options) because I play there, and encroissant for serious analysis of longer rapids/classicals with connection to databases, my own games etc. It gives you great game reports and tools. Each website is better in some ways, worse in other ways. Puzzles on chesscom, for example, can be fucking stupid and weird. Recently I did a puzzle rush there and at like ~2700 I got a simple M1. It's the WORST websites for puzzles by far.Endgame trainings, drills (from-position training), lessons, courses, studies: chess.comPuzzles, puzzles by theme, puzzle streaks etc: lichess, listudy, chesstempoCoaches: lichess (chesscom has the coaches category too, but lichess makes them give you a price and write about methodology, chesscom has just profiles for some reason lol)Analysis online: lichessAnalysis in general: encroissant with stockfish 17.1 is the bestChesscom can be a great resource to learn if you can grab the diamond for a dollar. Don't buy the full price.

I just had a bizarre glitch or something on lichess where my opponent made a move, and then I got disconnected from the site. After disconnecting/reconnecting my wifi and refreshing the page, the opponent's move was undone and it was his move again.I was sure that after his clock ran down lichess would tell me I was disconnected somehow and actually lost, but no, the opponent just let his time run down to 1 second, played one more move, and flagged. So my guess is it was a server glitch or synchronization failure with the database, idk, and my opponent's move was simply consumed by Thibaut's technical edifice. And he didn't realize until too late. Very weird.

>>537162727>Do not drink alcohol more than once a weekwhy? You know how many masters are alcoholics?I drink every day and I got very decent.
>>537166746Because then you'll spend way too much time recovering from hangovers, and during such periods, your brain will not be functioning at 100% power (similarly to when you're drunk, but to a lesser extent). It is especially bad if you're trying to learn something or memorize things, in my experience. In the case of masters who are alkies, one can assume they got good before they started drinking (that is, as kids).>i drink every day and i got very decentIf it's very light drinking then it's not that big of an issue, but your brain still isn't running "in a fully optimized state" so to speak. Try training chess for 10 days without any alcohol, as an experiment. I can almost guarantee you will play way better than you can right now.
>>537164246I like the board configurations, anticheat is also much better, you can set up profile pictures and do multi-premoves.Chesscom offers better game experience. And sure, they're jews, but you can analyze stuff in lichess or offline with stockfish on your pc anyway. One anon recommended encroissant yesterday, i use it too for serious long rapids. >>537177853Well, I mean the white man resigned Europe and look what is happened there.
Resigning to a sub-2000 player is dumb. These people hang mate in winning positions.
>>537178975there's a middle ground between resigning when you're at a disadvantage but still have something to fight for and never resigningif you keep playing in totally completely lost positions where the only thing you have to hope for is a stalemate on the off chance your casual online opponent screws up royally, you are just being autistic - it's a waste of both players' time all to give you a 1/100 chance at an extra 4 elo points or whatever the difference would be
Game is probably a draw under standard chess rules, but if white promotes to a king the position is winningWhy shouldn't this be allowed?
>>537185051In this position sure, white is forced to give up his original king and the "extra" promoted king has enough pieces to win the game (if i understood correctly), but in practical play this would just lead to unending games everywhere due to people having "extra lives". One king is hard enough to checkmate, now imagine having two on the board for either player. The amount of draws by 50-move rule would skyrocket, pretty much no one would ever win a game of chess past move 40 again
>>537185675I was imagining that any supernumerary kings could be captured, so in practice promotion to a king would almost always be a mistake. Only in extremely rare situations would the rule change even be relevant. But it would lead to some absolutely kino promotion tactics, I'm sure of it.>this would lead to unending games everywhere, the amount of draws would skyrocketI don't think so. A queen could mate two kings easily, because you're always going to be able to fork them somehow and win one of the kings.Checkmating with rook vs. two kings would be more interesting, but in practical play, it would always be better to have promoted to a queen instead.
I have lost 7 games in a row at the 700 level and I want to shoot myself in the head. Every single game has been a brutal ass fucking where I make incredibly obvious blunders that a fuckign 4 year old child shouldn't make. I have been doing nothing but watching chess videos and looking over my games for 2 days and then I come back and play like this. I am subhuman, I am a disgusting piece of shit who is unworthy of life. I am a 32 year old fucking virgin who has such bad anxiety he can't leave the house and I STILL DONT EVEN HAVE THE DECENY TO BE GOOD AT MY HOBBY HOLY SHIT I NEED TO DIE SO FUCKING BAD.
>>537189906I seriously have nothing else going for me in my life other than I memorized shit well on test in grade school as a kid and I let that fucking nonsense convince me I was some super genius who was going to take over the world. How fucking pathetic. How disgusting. I am not smart. I am not even average, I can memorize well and in every other conceivable way I am an actual subhuman retard.
>>537189057oh yeah, I guess this one is a draw for sure because the kings can actually defend one another and the attacking king can never assist. If the kings are separated and can be skewered then there are occasionally wins for white, but it tends to be a draw even if the kings can be kept separate, afaict. With queen vs. two kings, the same defending principle applies. If the kings can rush toward each other fast enough, the queen alone would be helpless. However, I suspect most QvKK endings are winning since there are going to be forks everywhere. Just have to keep the kings from defending one another
>>537189057Mating two kings with a rook would be impossible. The normal KR v. K checkmate involves a zugzwang, which is made totally null by the addition of a second piece to move. Unless Black makes a mistake by allowing his kings to be aligned in a straight line (making a fork possible), this game will simply never end.Queen vs. two kings can go either way tho. Would probably be interesting if someone made this in code to see what would happen.>>537189906Here's a secret tip i've given someone i know who was about your rating: go on your settings and turn off the "show legal moves" checkbox. The little dots that appear when you click on a piece showing where you can move. Get rid of them and rely only on your own brain to know where things can go, as if it was an OTB game. Over time this will remedy your board vision problems.>I am a 32 year old fucking virgin who has such bad anxiety he can't leave the housePay a hooker (so you can no longer call yourself a virgin) + get into an exercise routine (i recommend running). These will absolutely nuke your confidence problems.

>>537192065>it's all dogshit.found the problem. Fix that first and worry about chess later
>>537192645You are correct. More veggies and running is always good. I just won 2 games because both opponents blundered queens early so maybe there is hope.
>>537189906Actually same but much higher rated than you. I just lost a bunch of games in a row due to retarded blunders. One game I lost a piece to a pawn fork because I forgot these faggots can move, and then I autistically defended a lost position for 30 next moves for ~15 minutes just to get mated.
>>537191658I believe it's an easy win with Queen vs. two kings in almost all scenarios. As long as the queen can separate the two kings, then white can bring in the king and checkmate/capture one of the kings without relying on zugzwang.
>>537177747anyone tried learning some tricks from leela piece odds to play for a win even when down a piece?
>>537191658>Mating two kings with a rook would be impossible. The normal KR v. K checkmate involves a zugzwangThis seems valid for many cases, but in pic related I've shown some themes that can arise when one of the kings is confined to the back rank, which would be fairly typical and easy to achieve in many endgames.
>play until the middle game>get draw request>deny it>they concede>for 3 games in a row
>>537213932Winning ideas with the white king far away (white to move in both diagrams)In #2, the black king tries to get to the sixth rank to avoid being checked for a mating tempo, but when black plays kb5 after 4.kf6 kb5, white can play rg7+, forcing the black king into the corner.kg6 kc6, and white now wins with re7
>>537216813that was probably me. If it gets boring I dont wanna play
>>537189906it's so over>>537193181we're so fucking backAnons gave you good advice on the non-chess stuff, I'd only add that fixing your sleep issues, if you have any, is very important. Now, onto the chess part: you're at a rating where not hanging pieces for free and consistently seeing basic tactics will guarantee improvement so there's hope for you yet. You need to actively work on chess to get better, passive learning by watching videos and lamenting over all your ??s will not cut it. First, finish this: lichess.org/practice (you can skip some of the harder mates). Then, you need to do a ton of low level puzzles so that basic tactical patterns burn into your brain. Doing anon puzzles on lichess is perfect for this. If you're really commited, working through an introductory book will certainly improve your chess. I'd recommend one of the Yasser books but if you're feeling hardcore you can go with the Soviet Chess Primer. One last piece of advice: play longer time controls to have the time to think about all your moves and better see the threats that your opponents make. This will also make the post game analyses much more useful. In short, practice+puzzles (+book) = guaranteed improvement. Good luck, anon.

Perfect example of why this game is retarded. Then he accidentallies into the position with Qh3 and the game is over. Ok dude. For sure. And even before that when I should be massively winning the engine is claiming it's not even +1. One account from here is my main cheating account with rating I won't name, but enough to play titled players consistently in blitz and rapid.Let me teach you HOW TO CHEAT ON CHESS.CUM.Needed:>PC, mouse for playing>phone with stockfish>multitasking skills>play normally>while waiting for your move, move your mouse around just a bit, draw an arrow from time to time>while calculating, draw arrows around>when difficult position comes, wait and calculate with arrows>all the time copy the moves to the stockfish on your phone>now see the moves on the phone stockfish and start calculating them on your pc>hmmm.. this won't work... (3rd engine line)... hmm... nice... then this and this... oh no, but this... oh but i have this... ----- you draw arrow all the time>finally get to the 1st line and just play it after calculating with arrows>all the time, always, move your mouse just a bit. when you copy moves to stockfish, have the phone placed near your mouse so you can do it while moving your mouse>chesscom sees that you always calculate and move your mouse, don't change the tab, it leaves you alone, you're clean, you're always in the pattern, algorithm says you're fineFAQ>why the fuck do you do it?for the lulz and improvementi unironically learned A LOT of chess from cheating. i think it is the best way to improve. i learned so many moves in so many positions, and what to look for, what positional ideas stockfish always has. i became a much more strategical player, cheating is OP for learning.

>>537277385idk if it's true, but the idea of chesscom incorporating 'arrow calculation' into their anticheat algorithm is hilarious>This guy must be legit. Sure, he consistently played the top engine move, but he drew so many arrows!

>>537279680blah blah cope blah blah stupid cheater blah blahNo, it is like real-time analysis but on steroids, because you're playing them during a real game and automatically brains understands why and how, and you will now always remember that idea. During a normal analysis, the brain doesn't send it to your "game" shelf. You can understand something cognitively, what happens during the analysis, but it's not enough for you to spot these things and understand them practically or how to force them physically. Cheating sends them to the right category. That's an actual pedagogical method.>>537278592You could try it out at least. Make a new account on 1600 and try, see for yourself if it helps you. I skyrocketed to 2000 chesscum with ideas and playstyles I learned while cheating.>>537280084Chesscum algorithm sees that as your real calculation. It sees you moving your mouse all the time, trying out variations, understanding why they don't work, treating it like a puzzle. It doesn't flag you as a potential cheater. Indians usually just go for the first line and get spotted easily. Cheating needs a bit more refinement.

>>537280606By the way, just imagine: when you are IN THE MOMENT OF THE GAME, and thanks to stockfish you start understanding the position completely, it clears up, you get that katharsis, you immediately know everything about the position. You can imagine what the guy will do, you can imagine what tricks you can do, what can save you in a few moves, and you try it out without the engine's help because you already know everything. It's something that normal analysis will never give you. You get experience in playing that position and you will never forget what to do. It's overpowered.
>>537278029Why not? I like it because it helps bring my pawns into play and start attacking the center immediately.Secondly I'm at such a low elo that openings are barely even relevant in most of my games. I do this: >>537245027 half the time and still win.

Why isn't he playing in local shitter tournaments every single week for years on end to get to 3000+ fide?
>>537171643>won on demand The most cringe saying in chess, some ESL started this gibberish term. The earliest I can trace it back to on the internet is a Russian chess blog from 15 years ago, where the blogger translates Russian chess news into English. I'm sure it existed before this though. So I'm guessing Russian players or journalists started this and spread it in interactions. No other sport or game uses this saying because it doesn't make sense in english, normally it's "must win" or similar. It's just like "but ok"https://youtu.be/2IiJ1IqbmcAIn the comments someone joked that all international chess players learnt English from one person (patient zero).
>*ctrl+f "how do i"*shut the fuck up
>>537365142huh
>>537368973It needs to stop
>>537369627so what should I say instead? he won a must-win game? he won in a must-win situation? I understand now that it doesn't make sense logically but won on demand just sounded more natural to me. it's funny how I never even thought about this expression and just went with it since it's used so often.
>>537369990Why is it even needed to encapsulate so tightly that the player had to win the game in order to achieve something to the fact that the game was won by the player? The niggerification of English has had catastrophic consequences."He won the game, if he hadn't he would have been out of XXX, what a cathartic moment for blablabla."
>>537369990>he won in a must-win situation? I understand now that it doesn't make sense logically but won on demand just sounded more natural to me.That's what they say in other sports, but you are right in that "He won on demand" is smoother and quicker even though it might sound a bit weird to a native English speaker. No, but ok I guess we will have to allow it after all, a unique quirk of the chess world which is entrenched in the chess lexicon.
>>537371565>Why is it even needed to encapsulate so tightly that the player had to win the game in order to achieve something to the fact that the game was won by the player? You're getting a little lost in the sauce there (heh). And the answer to your question is simply that it's way more impressive to win when you have to. English became the lingua franca of the modern world + americans seem to have 0 respect for it so some degree of degradation is to be expected.

>>537373421i am studying to get my driver's license but I have never actually driven, why would she be losing control of the car by pulling the handbrake? Isn't that the sort of situation it's for?
>>537373889in the case of normal drivers the handbrake is for parking or for when you don't wanna keep your foot on the break at red lightsdriftGODS use it for something else
>>537373889The handbrake would lock up the rear wheels causing her to skid and slide all over the road. The handbrake is only used when the car is stationary to stop the car from rolling.
>>537365142even looking past that giga autism because this is a chess general after all, "win on demand" makes perfect logical sense as a phrase unlike most anglo sayings but I could care less so feel free to have your cake and eat it too

>>537365142>>537369627sir did the needful and redeemed the match
>>537286303the organizer updated their website
chess is retardedNakamura joins local shitty tournaments and each opponent hanging rooks randomly gives him 0.8 elo. If he plays one a day, in September he will be #1 in the world, because FIDE counts them at 2400 elo; they don't count elo differences as higher than 400.
>>537365142I always thought it meant: " win however you wanted" like an easy win or something. Example:>Hikaru is in some shitter tournament>he can win on demand against any player there.Like he can win in the opening, middlegame, endgame... by crazy tactics/positional shit, he can do whatever he wants, and he can still win. So these clowns use it like " he must win" when the person already won?
>>537383351I also understand it like this. You are much better and can win however you want.
>>537383351I interpreted it as to win as the match situation demanded it or you lose the match, aka must-win situation, so it makes a bit of sense. If you interpret win on demand to be as the player demands it, then it doesn't make sense.
>>537382408It is just FIDE being retarded and making a convoluted qualification system that has tons of loopholes.Last cycle Alireza organized a tournament just to gain elo, and Chennai Masters was put together literally days before to help Gukesh and Arjun gain circuit points.
>>537383902The phrase as used in chess is not proper English though.
>>537383351>>537383902it can mean either due to how english works, its ambiguous (but not incorrect english)
>>537385950yes it is, and that wall of autism is completely wrong>the phrase risks ambiguityits the language itself which causes this, it was already ambiguous which is why it is applicable to both situations
>>537382408I wish they'd stop using elo to determine invites and go to a pure qualifier system, as in you need to win zonals/interzonals/candidates etc, rating be damned. It'll never happen, though.
>>537383902>win as the match situation demanded itit's so obviously this that any other interpretation never even crossed my mindhe was demanded to win and did it ergo he won on demand, it makes perfect sense the people complaining about it are autistic
>>537386280we are chess players, we are uneducated autists
>>537385950It literally says in the wall of text the usage implies "the situation demands a win".Even if not proper, does it matter if everyone knows what it means?

>>537443921Native English speaker here. Hikaru is “winning on demand” against these players simply because of the skill gap. He can basically win whenever he wants, on demand. That’s very different from the situation we often see at high level tournaments broadcast on the internet, where top players sometimes end up in genuine “must win” situations to advance, against skill matched opponents. For some reason, the chess media mafia calls this “winning on demand,” which seems to be an ESL mistranslation from Russian (or another language) rather than proper English, which already has long established terms for this, terms used in every other sport to describe the same situation.
>>537419538Look if there's a club in your area. Join them. One of the best decisions i've ever made
