Recently found out that my cunt's navy uses Virtual Sailor NG as the official trainer. This setup is plywood, a few tvs, 2 gaming pcs, and every controller is 3D printed for some reason.

DC-3 practise, I'm not very good at flying this.
>>536128342The navy would have access to a real ship wheel and levers, or money for some sim controllers. Instead they went for flimsy printed throttle devices and a tiny helm printed in 4 pieces because of the tiny printing bed. They are already probably running all simulators around the country off the same $40 key

DCS but instead of becoming the "everything simulator" for all planes from the P-47 to the F-35 and all places from Nevada to Syria, it remained permanently in the setting Flanker 2.0 and built a fully featured game around a US vs Russia over eastern europe.

That window of time where reliable all-aspect heaters, laser and TV guided munitions, and BVR fox 1s existed, but GPS bombs / high off-boresight / FLIR / fox 3s did not is the ideal time period for aerial combat kino. Nothing much happened in this period besides the Falklands War, which is why more sims need to fully embrace alt histories or fictional worlds like arcade flying games do.

>>536253912Is the dev still active?
>>536262397Yeah, but I don't know how big their team actually is nor what is the threshold for them to consider a module complete. In my opinion their M-346 is around 50% done, but I can easily imagine them fixing just a few bugs and calling it a day, since they never made a roadmap. They also have other modules but if I have to be honest the level of details from looking at some youtube videos isn't that great. Their F-16s are at the level where I wouldn't be able to ask people money for them if I was the developer. The CRJ seems to be a tiny bit better but it's hard to gauge the true reception. If their M-346 will actually be developed further, introducing more MFD pages, the remaining HUD symbology, an actual physic based flight model like XPlane is famous for instead of the current FrecciaRossa one, and with more than 2 updates per year that hopefully will do more than only break stuff, then for me it was worth it. But if I didn't have an obsession with this trainer I honestly would've never looked their way even once. I bought this module IIRC a year after its release and some of the bugs were IMMEDIATELY obvious from the first flight if you had even a little bit of experience with flight sims in general the fucking map was stationary so I seriously can't understand how the devs could miss those, unless they are incredibly understaffed and have cornered themselves with having to support too many modules. where have I seen that before?
>>536265424Indiafoxtechno said that the 346 will get an update 'soon' so you'll just have to hope it's a good one.
>>536267650I think they are just going to do some cleanup for the code but I would love to be proven wrong. Their M-346 module would need a complete 3D model overhaul and a completely different logic for their FBW/trim logic with flaps down. I don't know what to feel about them as devs considering some of the bugs for the DCS MB-339 are still present a year after them being reported (same with the M-346) and they seem to want to focus mostly on their breadwinner, the F-35 which I think it's getting some A/G stuff but I'm not sure as faceberg asks me to log in to view posts.
>>536269287Honestly I've noticed that quite a few devs support their product for a bit and then completely abandon it even if there are still issues, not a fan.
>>536269720I think it's because unless the module you release keeps selling like hotcakes at some point you'll have to either find another source of income or go under. Same issue DCS has. I hate subscription services like the plague but their advantage is precisely that. But their downside is that the devs then have all the incentives to trickle down meaningless updates to minmax their cash flow. With the Xplane12 M-346 I was honestly a complete retard and didn't read up on how the modules work there. I tought it would be that once I buy it I own it so in the future I could make a fully offline simpit for the M-346 and not have to worry about licenses yet I'm stuck with a limited uses activation code module. As a customer either way you'll take it up the ass. and I'm now considering buying the F-104 for Xplane
>>536257040the pinnacle of 90-00s combat simming was in recreating 50-year-old conflicts and it's a waste to not be doing it again in the 2020s.
>>536270950>lightning on windowhow?
>>536270950be a man and pirate it bro.no need to take it up your ass unless you actually want it there.
>>536271459The problem is that with Xplane there seems to be a lot less pirated stuff. I was able to find a couple of GA modules on some weird russian website but they also asked to run some sketchy exe files so I just said fuck that.>>536271421it's st Elmo nutsack or something, it was a part of the simfx mod for msfs IIRC
>>536270950>limited uses activation code moduleThat's gay, maybe if you reach the limit you can contact the devs and get new ones?
>>536273565Yeah you can, my gripe is about what happens if they go under or die. I hope they will at least have the decency to make an uncrypted release with the latest build if they ever stop being in the business.

>>536265424>The CRJ seems to be a tiny bit better >but it's hard to gauge the true reception.that's because most Xplane users are "yes men" with stockholm syndrome for the sim. They are almost all Linux users who are accostumed to having something inferior they need to try and justify to everyone, so for every issue they have they think they are using it wrong or that it's totally not an issue despite even microshart lapping them in current year.

>>536651626Damnit, I just wanted a fun hobby flying FPV drones, then some slavs had to go and use it to mutilate each other, and now the wall are closing in on me. I finally finished modding XPLANE12..After 3 days and 185Gbs of mods, I finally got it looking pretty good (for XPlane).Doesn't look as good as MSFS2024 obviously, but at least i can zoom in really far and still see the buildings ahead of me (unlike in FS2024)

>>536735462Simheaven X-WORLD 3.0 and AutoOrtho for the graphics, LiveTraffic for traffic (duh), Better Pushback, Follow Me Car and Auto DGS for Ground Ops, and lastly a couple of great freeware like the ZIBO737 and the Aerobastk DR400.
>>536690801u wot m8 I had no idea this was in development, I can't find a website or much info on it beyond a video
>>536733004That looks good, the trees still look a bit odd though

>>536736890Yeah they included those new 3D trees in XPLANE12 but they don't look great from afar...The only good thing about them is that they change depending on the season and can look pretty good from up close.
>>536737252That looks decent, the great trees in MSFS 24 made me realise how much of a difference they make to scenery in sims, 2024 goes a bit mad with it though so it looks like another game almost on the ground. What does water look like in X Plane? Does the sea look alright?

>>536736564>>536733004Sweet. Personally I didn't like the look of Simheaven due to the all gray buildings and fell back to only authoortho. Simheaven also gave me massive fps drops.
>>536738654Believe it or not, just a drag and drop into your custom scenery folder and just a quick check the see if your sceneries are loaded in the correct order and you're set !>>536740320Sometimes i find the building models for Simheaven to be really low-res compared to the default ones, but for VFR it adds so much details and structures missing from the base scenery package.
>>536737494Water looks alright most of the time, the waves are well made but i still prefer 2024's water effects
>>536744387It reminds me of FSX where you had to install countless addons to make it look good (at the time). I remember Orbx's scenery packs seemed amazing at the time but it's funny looking at them now.
>>536745159That's exactly what it is. I hope someday we can get better ground textures and details out of the box, they did a good job with the clouds and the colours last update, i hope they keep it up.It's ok-ish for VFR flight now, IFRs flights are really great though compared to FS2024. I do enjoy the night lighting and the airport scenery way m ore in XPLANE.

Have a great night /simg/
>>536781148>I'm sure trackir is much more comfortable than VRComfortable maybe, but more unnatural because it doesn't track your movement 1:1 like VR. Any VR headset can be made comfortable with shims under the facial interface pad, and then your body will develop thick, powerful neck muscles to deal with the weight.
>>536781148you can't beat VR for immersion, but if you're lazy and can settle for 80% good enough trackir or opentrack is fine.low-barrier impulsive sessions on flatscreen are better than the sessions you skip because you can't be bothered to put on the headset.

>>537064372>plane launched micro ICBMS are realisticThe only reason they are so OP is because they fly in a ballistic arc through the stratosphere. Thats not a thing IRL, no rocket taht has enough fuel for that fits on a plane, especiall if you add that the rocket has no pad to launch itself from and needs to steer upwards mid-air while also correcting for the planes velocity. NO does pretty well with prioritizing fun over realism when in doubt, but these things are neither fun nor realistic.
Regardless of whether they are realistic or not, tuskos were a terrible addition because there is never a reason to not take them. Piledrivers are vulnerable to missile SAMs, cruise missiles are vulnerable to SPAAGs, bombs require you to get close, while tuskos are strong against anything.

>>537378993>arcade console gamesThe MSFS24 g1000 172 has a better flight model than the Xplane one. Even just the physic engine of 24 is better than xplane
>>537381446Yeah no, it is an arcade game and the physics is broken.
>>537377521Yeah, but why though? Do they think in an actual hot war Rafales will be blasting off American supercarriers, and F-35's will be blasting off the Louis de Funés or whatever the fuck it's called?
>>537384921But enough about Xplane.
Has anyone here had experience with both VKB and Virpil kit? I'm just getting back into flight sims after a few years and I've quickly remembered how much I hated the ungated hats on the Virpil CM3 throttle and CM2 grip compared to my older Warthog and CH products kit. Are the hats on the VKB STECS and MCGU any better?
>>537384921Nope, i've got decent IRL experience to say this :FS2024 is really good for GA, XPLANE has better FM for Airliners. That's about it, 2024 shits all over XPLANE12 graphic wise though.
>>537387735>Nope, i've got decent IRL experience to say this>FS2024 is really good for GAYeah, for the graphics, eg. sightseeing, not much else. Look up any neutral comparisons made by real life pilots and you'll notice everyone says that MSFS planes fly like on rails.

I know a dude who used to fly some ultra light crap. I only listen to his advices.
I wish we had another game like Atomic Suggestion but in a cold war gone hot setting.Instead of having advanced aircraft, just justify the simplistic controls by having a co-pilot who actually deals with the targeting and stuff.
As an active duty professional M-346 sim pilot thank me for my cervix I think the effort put in by the virtual aircraft developers often matters more than the engine limitations of the sim. I still don't know anything about flight sim engines so I'll shut up now
>>537384921This is just cope because you don't want to use Windows for MSFS. How realistic a plane flies is nearly all down to the developer, not the engine
>>537405083>How realistic a plane flies is nearly all down to the developer, not the engineIt's both. X-Plane has implemented "blade element theory" which tries to interpret the physical shape of the aircraft's model and incorporate it into the physically simulated object. I don't know about MSFS.
>>537405605MSFS24 has that. In 2020 "aicrafts" were all basically a tube with wings. in 2024 you can have complex shapes. But if the developer doesn't use the tool they are back to being a tube.
>>537405605But I'm sure devs have to implement that, I imagine there are plenty of shit addons for x plane that don't fly well.

I'm cautiously getting back into virtual flying. Some sacrifices had to be made - my Warthog stick died last year, so I'm back on the CH setup and it kinda holds up after all these years, but A2A refueling is an exercise in frustration. Ordered a ChinkWing Orion G2 stick, the Hog throttle should do fine still, but all I got for rudder is the cheap TM ones and the CH which I really don't like. VKBs weird press-down rudder seems to be the only thing available for purchase now, but they are expensive and don't have brakes, though I really like the compact form factor - is this worth getting after my next paycheck? On to the next thing, which is what is worth focusing on. IL-2 was always my go-to sim, but you all know how it is - it's got some issues like not all planes FMs being equally polished, AI sometimes being stupid (when the fuck will they fix the bug when AI wingmen don't drop their bombs!?), but it's still the best WWII SP experience.I checked out DCS the other day and it's just not good. Some warbirds still have a bit too much power, the AI still cheats and the DM is still lacking. Add to that the absolutely unrealistic planeset for the maps and campaigns and it becomes a joke as soon as you look past clickable pits and operating the plane itself. I'd say fuck it and just play BMS, but I don't find it fun on my own, always get impatient and do something stupid.God, I'd kill for something like Nuclear Option, but with WWII inspired planes

>>537594039Judging from the blue text here>>537589142 this is that strike fighters game made for iphones.
>>537593070A lot of them died for that very reason in places like the desert or in the Pacific, especially after getting separated from wingmen and squadrons. Fighter nav in WW2 was quite shit in a lot of aircraft types, for instance the US lost quite a number of fighters simply by trying to ferry them from mainland Australia to Papua New Guinea - the last refuel stop in Australia was a field called Horn Island in the Torres Strait, and there's at least four examples of aircraft that crashed because they'd been told to find Horn Island, "keep going up Cape York Peninsula and keep the land on your left and you can't miss it" - from the tip of Cape York it's about 15NM and if you know what you're looking for, readily visible - but nobody told them they should make sure they kept flying north. This P-47 is one of two that is still on the beach near the town of Weipa, because they followed that advice, got to the top of the peninsula, kept the land on the left and kept going south until they ran out of fuel and landed on the beach. The pilots were rescued, the wrecks were dynamited after the machine guns were removed. Later in the war, single bombers would travel with groups of fighters for navigation support.
>>537594039It's IL-2: Cliffs of DoverFrankly, it deserves its 66% rating on steam for having typical sim sins.>absolute dogshit UI >no dynamic campaign or proper career system>training missions are utterly worthless >radio is confusing and unexplanatory as possible That being said, the sounds, cockpits, damage model, and flight dynamics are all spot on. Install size isn't insanely bloated like so many. The AI is good... in combat at least. It's the perfect level of realism where most of the important stuff is clickable in the cockpit (less keybinds) but largely irrelevant stuff isn't modelled.I'm just playing it because I want something to do while waiting for the NO update. I've made a gorillion webms for NO, but none for this because I'm shit at it. Gamepads are not suitable for non-FBW aircraft.
>>537598093When I got into IL-2 / DCS I was expecting to learn some kind of lost navigation technology, but no, it's really just dead reckoning and landmarks.

>>537634987It also has a G1000 and other versions. I hope I can select the right position as default seat since flying an sf-260 in the left seat is gay.
>>537635035It varies by country, Brazil has no VORs bar terminal ones with a ~30 nm range, but there are plenty of NDBs. Even in the US which used to have tonnes, and still has a lot, has really reduced them and still are, the end goal is to have the minimum number of radio navigational aids required for navigation, which means they'll be sparse but still usable. There are mods online that bring back navaids from the 50s when you couldn't swing a cat without hitting one.
I managed to do solid nap of the earth Durandal runs using the VORTAC of the enemy airfield to line up my attack, and popping up only at one mile out, and it got me wondering. Did they do this in real conflicts? Or are radio beacons are turned off most of the time in war?

I was only able to do a quick flight due to IRL stuff but it seems like a really good module, I wish the DW M-346 had this level of detail.Lots of stuff are simulated and can break which you need to repair with the free economy and REP addon. A "non" issue is that being a prop plane you need constant rudder imputs so if you don't have pedals it's kinda a hassle.

I don't like the aerotow though, unless I'm being an idiot it just seems to take you in a random direction at a random altitude and fuck off, I just stick to the motor gliders because I'm a wimp.>>537759714Yeah it's not bad, gliding is the only realistic way to get into flying as a hobby for most people, in Europe at least, it seems like loads of yanks have planes but they earn more money. Rental cost at my local airport is £235 per hour for a Piper Warrior.
>>537759882Do you need a license to fly a glider in the US? Strangely you don't in the UK, but I don't think gliding clubs would let some random fly with no experience.
>>537759573Yeah, it was one of the reasons I wanted to give it a try even if I'll never be able to afford a PPL. On top of that glider flying in the alps is amazing I've heard.>>537759597I know, welcome to Northen Italy, where our GDP is higher than 80% of Europe but our salaries have gone down year after year. I was able to find a couple of other Aviosuperfici that were both closer to me and cheaper, but I'm undecided since the ITAF instructor I talked to kept praising this one school in particular ( https://acao.it/ ) stating that one of the issues with smaller schools is that they often go by the "feels" instead of going purely by stats and data for the performances etc.
>>537760070Drive down to the souf to do it maybe
>>537760143I don't have a death wish lol. Not to mention there are very very few of those in the south. It's the same with gun ranges. Here everything is expensive, but at least they are availabe. I still remember this guy from Puglia who had a Barret in .416 and could only shoot it once a year here in our local gun range in the north because not a single range where he lived had lines above 100m and would allow his caliber.
>>537760381>not wanting to pay some dodgy mafia bloke for a lesson in an ancient glider previously used for smuggling drugs
I effing LOVE snow
>>537760641I haven't actually landed on snow in 2024 with wheels or skis, thanks for the idea, there's a ski version of the Wilga
>>537760731It's surprisingly well made (at least graphically).Never landed in snow IRL so i can't really tell if it's accurate.
>>537760590i never saw an high wing glider
I had a dream about flying a DC-3 last night, after landing I parked on a hill and it tipped over and rolled down it.
>>537760872I was looking for an old 1950s Italian glider and found that, some of the old ones are kino
>>537760031you need a license but no medical, same as balloons or sport aircraft.US does most stuff by weight, so if it's under 155lbs unpowered it's considered an ultralight and you don't need any license whatsoever
K2 here i come
Why don't those mountaineers just use a Kitfox plane instead of climbing that mountain ? Are they stupid ?
>>537764178Didn't want to pay 10 grand for a PPL
Nea...Nearly there...
>>537764640kek are you fucking taxiing up it?
>>537764423But all of their equipment already cost way more than 10 grands, those boys have plenty of money to spare.
>>537764670I'm trying
Why is this so much fun ahah
>>537765808
>>537766092That does look fun, I might have to try it out, I could do it in the crosskart too
>>537766205Finally...I made it.
>>537766703snow blindness ain't a joke
>>537769875Still better than radiation sickness
>try DCS f-18 default campaign>cbu-99 bug from before 2018 still present LMFAO
>>537589142>the french, who deserved occupation for creating french philosophyThe French (rightly) treated the Nazis as liberators, and they were pretty sore about the recent bombing campaigns when the allies "liberated" them a second time.
>>537697529VR cockpits work just as well for me, and I can have whatever one I want at any time.
>>537771829I think they were much more sore about Verdun.
>>537567453>tfw the only RC M346's that exist are composite big boy kits or completely custom built.feels bad man
>>537773973>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-rXbJpuljcthese ones? They look hard to fly.
>>537775014Yeah like that, I suspect that's someone's project. Real turbines are cool but way too expensive for me. For EDFs I like to go with 70mm at the most because that means they're small/light enough I can belly land them on the fields near my house. Unfortunately no one makes a foam kit in that size.
>>537775663that sucks.
as someone starting an electrician course is this game any good for learning purposes? I would also appreciate if anyone has beginner materials
>>537777774you should probably try Engineering Games General, this is much more vehicle simulation oriented.
>>537777774It looks very gamey and repairing devices isn't what electricians do, but there might be something to learn from it, and it looks fun enough.>>537777878/egg/ is 90% factorio, he's better off staying here as he won't get a response there
>>537777774Just start poking around in the wiring in your house, it's free and I know you have some.
Reminder that sunlight can mess up trackir so close all the blinds, shut all the windows, turn off the lights and live in complete darkness for optimum simming.
>>537785187
>>537785187If you're flying at night and you aren't living in a world of self-imposed darkness then you're doing it wrong
>>537785458I only fly real time, which does mean that I've never flown in Japan or Australia kek, can catch NZ in the evening though.
