pic related is literally better than MoM but is super underrated since it's in an awkward spot for most builds to path to. with just 1k mana (and every build needs at least a little mana in poe2 due to stacking gem level being the only scaling vector, you also get +6 base mana per level so at 90 that's already 540) you would need to be hit for 10,000 post-mitigation damage in a single hit before this stopped being 10% universal damage reduction. MoM has a crippling penalty attached (50% LESS mana regen) and turns your mana into a second energy shield pool that when 0 provides no benefit and is still decent. on my current character I have put zero passive points into defenses but I'm wearing a cloak of flame with this node allocated so I have 45% damage reduction against all physical damage, that's literally better than having 100% deflection for a fraction of the investment
