People think Rouge has a crush on him, and while that's been hinted a few times, that's really not the feeling I get from her behavior. The people who try to claim they were never teased, or that sega forgot about them are generally full of it. The problem is that neither headlines a story and instead are relegated to support roles, meaning that you're not likely to see them interact directly, and even less likely to see those interactions taken seriously. But Sega hasn'r forgotten, and they'll probably get around to doing something with them again one day, especially if they want to revisit the adventure era. Anyways, it's nice to see that Sega understands that Shadow and Knuckles basically have no reason to fight. They're both annoyed by Sonic, both annoyed by Rouge's antics, and both usually worried about their own shit.
SA2 is the peak of this series in all aspects.
