One can see her sadness and isolations very clearly, the somber look on her face, the overall dark color palette, her head is in a downward pose, reminiscing of one experiencing great grief, her hands, tucked away, their palms folder. Everything alludes either to pulling away/ retracting or to a downward motion, in both cases a movement to something lower. The walls around her remind us of a castle, a place to hide away in and not only that but to keep others away. It is obvious that this is a metaphor about Hanako's life, she is tucked away, hidden and unreachable by others. But I would go as far as to say that the most important detail of this work of art is her eye. The little hole through which she sees the whole world. She is looking at us the viewer. And is it a look of anger? Maybe she just cried, so of sadness? It is really up to interpretation, but I see a look of hope. She is asking " Will you help me, will you listen, will you understand? ". And here we must also ask ourselves, "Will you help Hanako is you see her on the street, will you listen to the random stranger if he is in need. Will I understand someone who desperately seeks connection. " This is what makes me consider the author of this piece a genius. For we are faced with such a situation every day, when we interact with our fellow man. A stone cast at another, is a stone cast at Hanako.

I live north of the 60th parallel so summers are very bright (and not that hot) but winters are the opposite; really fucking dark. It affects my mood severely.
