After sleeping beat moorwing and got to the new town. This guy is my new bro, spirit animal friend. Went back to pilgrims rest and broke my rosary beads to buy the memory stone and pouch capacity upgrade from the merchant, going to spend some time grinding bells in halfway home to buy out the forge daughter's inventory that I completely forgot about.

After that, should I try hunters march or continue on into the area past moorwing? Is the wall jump not too far ahead or should I just come back later?

I just found Eva and she upgraded the default crest (the one I like the most), which is fucking cool
But I'm a little confused, she says to come back when I "expand my nature" so I swapped crests but she doesn't care, is the upgrade only for the crest I had equipped?

I don't know what triggers the upgrades, but she only seems to give you more general slots that go in all crests, and the hunter upgrade is just unique.

Alright, how many more weeks or months will it take before reddit and fanboys stop coping and realize that they did not cook after 7 years and Silksong is objectively worse than Hollow Knight?

>feels unrewarding as fuck, most of the secret areas give you like 30 beads and half of them fly off a cliff or a boneshard pile when you already are capped on them or nearly capped. Bosses literally give you nothing.
>Backtracking after acquiring abilities rewards you with often times... some tiny sum of beads or bone shards.
>game economy is fucked, the fact that only 2, maybe 3 enemy types in a given area actually drop beads makes fighting a large majority of enemies a complete waste of time cause you're already capped on bone shards anyways. Retards on reddit unironically defend this with "ermmm, akshully the citadel is a commentary on late stage capitalism."
>atmosphere and mood is nowhere near as good, most of the music is forgettable, hornet yaps too much, and way too many characters are le wacky and quirky
>silksong is far more linear than hollow knight, by a lot. The way that areas are linked to one another practically makes progression stage-based and there is little in the way of skipping or sequence breaking and even if you do get to an area earlier than intended, you get progression blocked very early on into it.

All these points have nothing to do with difficulty so you git gud retards have to come up with an actual argument
>>
>>538159289
Alternate from one end of the platform to the other and bait either her lunge (jump over her and hit once or twice) or her jump attack (dash under and hit once or twice). Her other attacks you can parry but she can activate her parry counter faster than you can swing which can catch you. Patience is the best thing for her, wait for her to use either of those two easily punishable attacks.

Back to getting filtered by the fucking bird house, is there really no closer bench than halfway home lol.
>>
>>538159289

hk1's charm system was horribly unbalanced. the cool ones were so pathetically undertuned that they felt like a waste of notches and you were objectively better off using the basic efficient ones.
silksong's crests & tools & skills let you experiment with cool stuff without automatically running out of space for utility charms. the supposed "restrictions" actually give you more versatility.
>>
>>538159597
I'm at varying amounts of agree and disagree with some of those points, but more then anything, the game doesn't feel that particularly polished for being in development for 7 years to "get things just right"

If she parries your attack, then just back up / jump backwards (you can tell she's parrying by the sound). Seems after ever parry, she'll go ora ora on you, but if you back up, it should be an easy dodge. You can probably go forward over her head too, but I feel most comfortable moving backwards.
Her forward lunge is easy to predict and dodge due to the obvious tell (picrel).
Her jump strike I got hit by maybe a lot (the upwards part), so I don't have much advice on it, but when she come downs, that should be easy to dodge by just moving to a different spot.
In the second half, her dwarf star move is probably the easiest move to dodge: use sprint if you're in the orb's hurtbox.
Took me like an hour to beat her. Here's my messy win if it helps: https://mega.nz/file/NbJlyAbL#ZpPyxqjWF-uRLaSqhWM5WTHDdxv9bIbN3SFVJXR3X_g

So far, I've liked Silksong's first 6 hours more than Hollow Knight. HK's gameplay didn't really click for me until lategame, once I had acquired most of the mobility tools. While the difficulty ramped nicely mid to late game, the early game is a bit of a drag, something I noticed when replaying it several years later. Silksong feels good from the get-go. Also, I like the music more in Silksong.

diagonal pogo parkour is better than vertical (pro tip: you can't change my mind)
>>
>>538176029
you need to go to the travel room, the grey pin, and in the bed of bells break the hidden wall on the right side, it will reveal a big parkour section, at the end of it you end up there.
it is a fight, you can open the door and run, but the enemy will disappear and I don't know where the hell does he go
>>

Those blowdarts fuckers in bilewater have some of the craziest tracking i've ever seen in a videogame. I feel like if im not above or below them i WILL get hit.
>>
>>538177339
I got 100% of all HK achievements but there's no fucking way in hell I'll be able to clear Silksong on permadeath, it's not even worth trying. It really feel like a Dark Soul thing where the devs know players already mastered the first game so they feel they have to ramp the difficulty up.
Also not so much a difficulty thing but I feel like 90% of the enemies are flying this time around, and the way their AI is written is made to frustrate you by constantly staying slightly out of reach, just to encourage you to play sloppily.
Oddly enough though the final boss felt much easier than Radiance. The one right before the Citadel's entrance gate took me hours while the final boss took me 3 attempts.
>>
>>538178286

In HK enemies rarely did 2 mask damage, in Silksong almost every boss and big enemy does.
Also it feels like you progressed much faster in HK than Silksong.
>>
Gotta love sequels that try to be harder than their predecessors, and then go overboard.
>>
>>538179879
The funny thing is they said in an interview they wanted to make it more 'approachable' for people that didn't play the original HK.
You can tell that all their internal testing was only done by themselves and people that speedrun the og HK.
>>
If you complete the witch crest quests you lose all of your spools forever. It's a long one too, so you can't even load the game's automatic backup. You'd think someone would have caught this in playtesting.
>>
90% of bosses dropping absolute jack shit for rewards is pissing me off, at least give me some fucking money.

took me like 10 tries with no upgrades, just hit it until it dies. stuns don't mean you dealt X% damage, they just happen when you do a certain number of hits in a short time. meaning if you're not getting stuns it's not a matter of low damage, it means you're not capitalizing on openings.

Is there some final upgrade I'm missing that's just a vertical version of Crystal Heart? I've painted like 95% of the map (I have every flea, every quest given to me done, etc) and I'm sitting in front of the final boss. I said fuck it and looked up the map to see if I was missing any small singleton thing and I see that there's like five or six little areas that imply sub dungeon or at least a significant piece enough to warrant art on the map itself and all of them are just straight vertical leaps well beyond harpoon + double jump.

The drill you find after the red drill bug thing also does giga damage because it hits enemies 3 or 4 times every time it passes through them.

There is a trick. Use wanderer and pogo jump from the summoned fucker on top of the screen, and then start pogojumping and mashing attack on top of the boss, you will get hit, but for your 2+2 masks of damage you drop boss to a stun state, every time. Get the boomerang curveclaw tool from the ant vendor (you need dash to reach him). With good positioning it hits 3-4 times and It's probably the strongest tool in act 1.
>>
>actual fetch quests, collect 25 of this thing from this enemy that drops it <100% of the time
>hornet is constantly surrounded by a sphere of darkness that keeps me from seeing where i'm going and using my hyper-mobility effectively to have fun exploring the world
>i find a safe(?) platform and a giant axe swings from the ceiling and kills me

turns out the devs were the clowns the whole time, nice sequel.

he's in the Marrow bench right below the Hunter's March entrance, where Grindle goes where you first rescue him, no idea what was the trigger to get him here
>>
>>538201608
>25 of this thing
you mean the spines? it's the projectiles and not the enemy, you can hit him once, let him shoot, then destroy the thrown projectiles
I don't think I've had a quest with random drops except the silver bells, you just gotta roam the place and they spawn randomly, really annoying
>>
>>538202201
The bells shit is just super annoying. Just hide a few bells in fixed locations like the polyps or lifeblood blooms, why are they a random spawn? Who enjoys this?

I'm really struggling with knowing where to go in this one for some reason. Don't remember having this problem in HK. I feel like I've explored every corner of the map.

>>
>>538201103
Bro, I left him until I beat almost all of act 1. He's parry bait but punishes you hard if you mistime. Using tools helps a lot as well, the line trap one can hit him 5 or 6 times if you aim at where he's going to pop from the ground. Also, bring him back into the tunnel you came in from, it's too short for him to jump in there so he'll just repeatedly burrow and punish as he comes from the ground or take two swings that you can dodge away from.

I'm only at Widow and I'm thinking I might be done with this game, and it's not even related to Widow.

Those bell enemies leading to Widow? Only there to waste your time. Accidentally fall or jump into the big one? You clip through and take damage until you die. The little ones? spawn after a few seconds and are also there just to waste your time. All those flying enemies in Shellwood? There to waste your time.

Sister Splinter? Easy mechanics, should be a first try boss. Oh wait, you take damage from her if you touch her toes while she's stunned. Those vines in the final phase? Attack them and you'll recoil into the one behind you. Why, Cherry?

It's just a mountain of pet peeves with Silksong at this point.

Wanderer. It plays the same as Hollow Knight's default moveset, pogo included. Weapon range is kinda shit but there's a talisman that fixes that somewhat.
Honestly downward and upward slash are broken in this game. The AI of most enemies and bosses can't handle that.
>>
>>538229225
The default hunter.
>>
i wish more metroidvanias existed with wrpg stories and worldbuilding
>you start off as nobody special, no "chosen one" or "prophesied hero" or anything like that
>multiple civilizations with different cultures exist across the map
>you develop a name and reputation for yourself and get paid by doing sidequests for npcs
>progress is gated behind items and abilities, sure, but you still get a lot of character expression via specific builds of skills, weapons and perks
>the world's got a deep history, but the overarching conflict and plot isn't really compulsory or locked on any timer, so you can explore and do whatever for all you want
i think it'd just feel good to play

Gonna see what the game is all about and gonna start with Hollow Knight, is there any tips to it? as in should I play it blindly, have a wiki up, etc, anything a newcomer to the series should know
>>
>>538233069
If you've played metroidvanias before you should go in blind. There's fun in getting lost in the world.
If you don't like the genre or have never tried it before you can ask questions as you go and peek at the wiki to find out where important upgrades are. Game like this are all about finding "keys" and figuring out or remembering where they are supposed to slot.
>>
No boss in putrified ducts?
I'm kind of stunned that what I think might be my last discovered region is so barren
>>
>>538233069
In my personal experience I thought the game was incredibly weak when I first started and almost dropped it. If the gameplay feels too simple at first just be aware they'll be dripfeeding you abilities throughout the game (sure, just like any other metroidvania, but you especially feel it in HK when your base abilities is just slow-walk and 4-directional attacks). It takes a while before you can actually start doing cool shit, but once you do, boss fights get really engaging.

Is it just me or does the Reaper crest feel objectively better than the default crest? It legit feels like theres no drawback to it cause the basic attacks are basically the same range and damage but the downward attack is 10x better cause the hitbox is a giant crescent shape that guarantees you hit the enemy unlike the default down attack where you can get cucked and the enemies hit you if you're 0.0001 inches off. Not only that but healing puts you in an enhanced state that makes enemies drop orbs to recharge your silk really fast.
>>
>>538229225
Wanderer because it's so reliable
Thought I would have loved Witch and immediately wasted memory lockets on it without knowing binding can't heal if you aren't close enough to enemies. Fuck that.

Why the difficulty curve of this game so all over the place? Greymoor was CBT with those stupid fucking birds and the combat encounter took me like 10 tries but the actual area boss Moorwing is piss easy and first tried it then after that Shellwood is weenie hut jr compared to Greymoor with the only remotely threatening enemies being the mantises which you skip anywas since they don't drop beads.

Even before that, Bellbeast and the giant ant guy was several magnitudes harder than Fourth Chorus which is a borderline game journalist boss with how extremely telegraphed his two easy as fuck slow ass attacks are and extremely basic puzzle to finish it off.

>>
>>538238461
Difficulty depends greatly on tools and build. There are some builds that excel in one scenario or boss that'll get slapped down hard in others. Moorwing, for instance, can either be a cakewalk or a bitch depending on what your setup looks like or you can just cheese him since his arena doesn't lock you down.

This is why the economy in this game is so dogshit, legit whats the point of fighting shit if they don't give you anything in return. Imagine if 70% of the enemies in metroid didn't drop missiles or energy or only 20% of the enemies in castlevania gives you EXP. How did they not once thought this was a bad idea in 7 years.

I just did that, both the dumb intended way and the shortcut way. If you start at the platform on the top right, you can dash jump past about half of it. Use the Reaper crest for easy pogo jumps. The mandatory jumps in Shellwood are more difficult than that.

Another thing I don't like. If you die in HK, your shade will be at the entrance to dangerous area AND will try to float to you AND you have the Rancid egg guy to save your ass. But now cocoon is always deep in boss room, so there is no way to run away without losing money.

The entire cocoon system just feels odd when combined with the high cost of items, I feel like it discourages exploration I'm not sure if I am making a mistake by not grinding some money to buy stuff instead of just coming back when I might need the item. If I explore too far without finding a bench it just feels tedious to make my way back to get it instead of running in another direction. I'm kinda worried for normies especially who will just be gated out of items that they need much more than the decent player who will actually have money

Yeah this is so far the craziest mandatory thing in the game and it doesn't feel well placed at all. That place was CRAVING a cool boss fight instead of that fucking nightmare. I dont know what they were thinking and if anything in the game gets nerfed its going to be that arena fight.

Its so funny because getting the other two songs were a cakewalk. But High Halls just decides to be the biggest fuck you in Act 2.
>>
I'm only in the rainy city so far but holy fuck, this is like playing on Overcharmed Godhome without Shade Cloak man. Every enemy just floats off screen away from you and manages to hit you twice in every opening because Hornet just has zero iframes on fucking anything, including recovery from hit so any time there's a second enemy on screen or an enemy that has fast movement you're getting blendered up as soon as you get touched. I assume there's more stuff you get later to help but by the time HK enemies got this aggressive on you, you at least had movement options. Here it's "dash away".
>>
I'm 29, playing this game makes me want to take my pistol and shoot myself in my mouth. Is this what kids enjoy these days? Fucking faggots.

Sounds like you're the one with zoomer ADHD buddy
>>
>>538258252
Are you larping, if you are ~30 you should be very well aware of bullshit platformers and action games. SS is nowhere near being actually mean or over the top hard. DMC3 is harder and unfair than this.
>>
This is what happens what devs have too much money and don't need to worry about player reception
Even difficult fights can be dealt with tool spamming but the mandatory platforming parts are just obnoxious
>>
>>538258252
I'm 28. Have you considered you just suck ass and have the patience of a toddler? And metroidvanias are peak late 20s/30s games anyway.
You're also probably not exploring enough and finding run back benches/shortcuts. Run backs aren't even 30s long most of the time.
>>
>>538258468
Bro you are spending your weekend SEETHING at video games, you're 29 and acting like this? Its over for you.
>>
>Airborne enemy charges at you in Hollow Knight
>Jump up and hit it with your Nail
>You are rewarded for your risk by sending it bouncing away from you allowing you to chase after and kill it

>Airborne enemy charges at you in Silksong
>Jump up and hit it with your Nail
>You are rewarded by having it armor through your attack and hit you anyway, probably for 2 Masks of damage

What's the logic here?

The logic is to make every enemy a difficult chore
They take like 5+ hits and even with upgrade 3 they take 3+ hits
Also you cannot actively take them down, you have to wait they come near because that's the design philosophy lmao
>>
>>538259461
Don't get me wrong I'm loving the combat so far, it's very fluid and fast paced. Just this one change is bizarre to me. It felt like such an intuitive part of Hollow Knight combat against flying enemies, vs. here where you're stuck waiting for them to get close the whole time or just burning through your Tools to deal with them.

Somehow the second one felt less bullshit despite more difficult arena. Probably because adds are non-rng.

Savage Beastfly is filtering me harder than any other boss so far. Ridiculous hit box 'cause fat, capable of spamming adds back-to-back, those adds are random and can be an easy little thing or Edbug Scissorhands. I've only given it a few attempts so far but this fight design does not sparkle with me.

90% of journos and the people who bought the game on hype alone won't be able to complete it without using cheats. Game's unironically harder than any Souls game because you can't just put points on more HP or change the gear to outDPS the boss.

I havent invested in it yet but I feel like Architect might be slept on, if you're into tool spam it seems nutty. But I was boring and stuck with Hunter the whole way through.

Kinda wish there was a NG+ feature where you could pick your starting crest or even have them all unlocked at the start, it would make replays really varied.

Bro what are you talking about, thats the entire appeal of the tool system.

I do think the game will filter a lot of people but outside of a few peaks it honestly isnt that bad if you just stick to doing the mandatory stuff. All the crazy bullshit is in optional areas.

Can I get to this house in far fields with just the glide cloak or do I need another mobility upgrade? There's no air current and I can't seem to get there from the platforms or the wall.
>>
>>538264894
I've beaten the game and the hardest thing by far was the High Halls arena. Like I said, there are other high difficulty segments but nothing as batshit insane as some of the optional stuff in the game, if people get stuck they can just look at guides anyways.

The more I play through the game, the more I realize that rosary economy is fucked due to lore reasons rather than game design decision to nickel and dime player. I respect that choice, even if I don't really like it, only indie devs have freedom to do things like that these days.
