Donde estan?
>>538654440I pretty often premove mate, but what is even more satisfying is premoving a refutation to a blunder. Like when I predict that my opponent won't notice a piece being defended. That's even happened with like 2100 rapid players, it's hilarious. The pause while they stare in disbelief at the square where their queen used to be, then the resignation
>>538672082That is truly the best
>>538672082I did this once when I played with a much weaker player. I saw an easy to spot tactic for him where he can take my knight for free, but I take his rook and a pawn afterwards, so I "blundered" and immediately premoved a reply to him taking my knight, knowing he will take it. He took it. Dude typed "wtf".
>>538625463Dogshit OP, needs more horse cock
I have never made a premove online and never will
>>538674759That you Kramnik?
>>538674759I have to respect that. You can even be strong in blitz or bullet without premoves, but you sound like someone who stays away from such degenerate time controls

>>538696558Practice checkmates. I actually got better by doing lots of BnN checkmates. By that alone, i learned so many stuff i couldn't notice while learning openings. It also gets me to relax everytime i'm down on rooks. Sometimes people would sacrifice everything once i'm left with bishop and knight, thinking they can draw it somehow. Little did they know i know how to mate with those 2 alone.

What's with puzzles doing things wrong? Here is a puzzle and the engine suggests that the queen ought to go to c2. However, after I did the correct pawn move, the queen went to a2 instead. I see this happen fairly often (the engine suggests a different move than the one the puzzle actually does) and it grinds my gears sometimes. What's the point of training against an engine if it's not going to play the best/engine moves? chess.c*m is the most egregious when it comes to this, but I still see it on lichess every now and then.
>>538775669The engine might show different moves depending on how long you let it run and calculate things for. Not to mention differences between stockfish versions etc. Non-tablebase computer moves, despite being very good, are not mathematically perfect.
>>538776240I guess that makes sense, especially since c*m requires a paid membership to use the non-gimped stockfish.
>>538775669Also, you should turn on the "show multiple lines" option in the engine settings. Having the computer show you only one option is suboptimal for analysis

As an absolute beginner before getting into online chess i used to play exclusively clockless games with friends so i liked this time control a lot due to being similar to what i was used to (don't know if it still exists though, the longest i play nowadays is 10+0 like a degenerate.)I remember playing a game of that a day when i was first starting. >>538848979You never heard of the polerio defense? Black's not forced to allow the knight sacrifice attack.
>>538852819>drew the last seedFraudkesh is now in a worse position against Divya
>>538801407I played some 30+0 the other day. Even with a provisional 1500 rating it didn't take long to find games and no one aborted surprisingly enough. I played a guy rated 2400 blitz so real players do actually queue.
>>538854493>polerio defenseGreat if I had the chance to set it up.If they even got a whiff that I was trying to defend, they'd play 4. Bxf7+ and then follow with Ng5I started delaying ...Nf6 so my queen could defend the g5 square, but Bxf7+ was going to happen before I got the chance to castle regardless. The whole thing with me playing 1....e5 is they were going to take f7, regardless if it was the fried liver, or the Haxo, or the Göring, or the Scotch gambit, or the fucking Jerome gambit.I just wanted to play the Ruy Lopez for god's sake.
>>538857114>If they even got a whiff that I was trying to defend, they'd play 4. Bxf7+But then that's just an unsound move that throws away a piece for nothing. The main thing White has going for him in the fried liver is that the black king is forced to walk towards the middle after the sacrifice and there's threats everywhere. But if you can just walk away with something like Re8 followed by Kg8, there's nothing to fear at all. You consolidate your position and then eventually just win by going into an endgame up a piece.
>>538818285more like crazyhouse... and you can't move backwards. Kind of game balance for the piece drop rule. Also gives you a "Hail Mary" option of making an end run to the other side of the board where your promoted pieces are stronger than their drops (called "entering king").
>>538812481= bishop exchange. Very prevalent in pro games recently, like how the Berlin Ruy Lopez took over in chess for a while.
>>538858513Yeah, that was the other thing. There's a hell of a lot of refutations to keep up with. I'd learn something, they'd play something different, and then I'd have to go back and look up what I'm supposed to do, and then I'd forget previous refutations I looked up.I mean, I'll return to 1....e5 eventually, but I feel like I need to spend a month or two booking up on refutations to xf7 bullshit before trying it again.>>538858787>consolidate your positionGreat idea, but hard to do when you're a shitter and super uncomfortable about your king being exposed and uncastleable.
>>538860404nigger, after Bxf7, you take it, they go Ng5+... what is the best answer? Look it up... the rest is just normal and serious chess, you are a piece up, they will do pajeet things and shitty attacks if you don't see those then train tactics and calculate
>>538859114>can't move backwardsyou can, but most pieces have limited backwards mobility.
>>538845860>win in 10 moves with this unbeatable gambit!Anon if a trap is dangerous and not too deep for a 10 min youtube video, everybody else has seen it already countless times

>>539009280>>539009329I'd prefer something online, chess clubs scare me.
>>539009984Is it because you're a beginner or because you're socially anxious? Because neither of these is a problem really, chess clubs are some of the most autist-friendly (for lack of a better word) places there are, and if you're new to the game people will be happy to share their knowledge
>>539009984I'm a weirdo bordering on anitsocial and even I am on good terms with everyone at the club I go to and most of them are extremely nice and friendly with me despite me being often standoffish with them, maybe I got lucky but it makes sense that chess clubs would be some of the most welcoming places for weird nerds. That said you could try asking in the lichess or .com forums for training partners around your level or if you are willing to spend money the chessdojo program seems cool

What matters is if you outplayed your human opponent, not whether the engine can come up with a refutation.Fischer’s “Game of the Century” was against an IM who badly misplayed the opening and most consider it overhyped btw.

>>539215978There's no way he did. Firstly there isn't a tournament every day, even at the peak of their careers these guys are playing more casual chess than professional, so it's wild to think it'd be different for a child. >>539218149I don't know, but they keep making gms younger and younger if I was looking at that stiff competition I'd give up as well. Soon we're going to have gms at single digit age. Thanks computer.
>>539218149My feeling is that he knows he can be champion if he invests 100% effort in the next few years and that's probably enough for his ego. Actually doing it isn't worth it. He only plays tournaments with large prizes in the last few years and has limited his classical games.
>>539218016>If it worked for him it worked for everyone. This vague refusal of advice can be applied to yours as well. Botvinik himself understood that his teachings were applicable to promising juniors, botvinik didn't build Kasparov from a 400 dotcom shitter, most people agree he was already about 2000 strength when he joined at 10, you don't think he played any blitz for that?Botvinik may be right that blitz won't help a 2k rating go to 2600+, that just isn't repevant to the average 400 rated opponent that doesn't routinely face opposition that provides challenge worthy of 2 hours of scrutiny in a classical format. You're taking a quote from a dead bitch and applying to situations it wasn't intended for.
>>539219094Maybe 400s would benefit from a time control where they (and their opponent) can actually formulate a plan and avoid hanging pieces every game
>>539219094how do you expect anyone to take you seriously when you won't even say your rating
>>539219681You know many 400s formulating plans?
>>539219897I don't even think it would be possible to remain 400 for long for someone who had a solid grasp of the rules and played with enough time to think. The way I imagine a 400 player, learning how the knight moves instantly increases their rating by 200 points. But nonetheless, if you ever watched a pogchamps stream, you'd know that really bad players can still come up with ideas about how to proceed in the position. "I'll attack that piece, I'll push over there, I'll promote my pawns, I'll line up my queen and bishop to checkmate him"
>>539219806Likewise. A more relevant question, which of your 400 rated friends have gained the most rating following your advice? Where did they get to? My roommate learned the game as an adult and is 1000 dotcom rapid.>>539219681Do you actually know any 400s? I think you probably have a fair assessment of their ability, but you seem completely disconnected from the issues 400s actually face OTB.>PlanIjbol, they don't know how to evaluate simple positions, they fundamentally don't understand strengths and weaknesses, they think castling is questionable, let alone come up with a plan to exploit any of the above. The average 400 made his last move because it hits a piece or vaguely pressures something, or even "I didn't know what to do"

>.1 second left>mate premoved>LOSS BY TIMEOUTIs the clock part of the scam algorithm now?
>>539219047It’s actually the opposite, he did the whole “100% effort” before and was nowhere close to competing to win Candidates, I think that actually did a lot of psychological damage and deep down he feels like he doesn’t have what it takes. It doesn’t help that he didn’t do much better the second time. So I think he’s distanced himself a little to protect his ego.It was unfair of people to overhype him as much as they did, I remember once when Firouzja and Magnus played each other, Anish Giri said “great, there are TWO of them now.” What? I never saw that. I always said his peak potential was MVL, nominally good enough to be world champ but in reality just a gatekeeper. But he grew up his whole life hearing how he was the next great world champion and trying to live up to that expectation. So he managed to cross 2800, made Candidates, it’s happening!! only to come up so short. It makes sense that he’s scared to put himself in a position to disappoint again. And imo it’s fair, because he will never have what it takes.
>>539252030That doesn’t make sense. Years have passed since he won Candidates and he has failed many more times than he succeeded, despite often being the favorite. One success in the past doesn’t mean he hasn’t consistently failed after.

>>539254448No, it’s not the same. Candidates is by far the most important tournament you will ever play and you always bring your A game, Tata Steel is just another annual tournament. If Magnus had to defend his title by winning Candidates every cycle as well, he would have won Candidates almost every time. There might have been one upset. Your responses continue to not make sense. Yes, it’s an 8 player tournament, that is indeed the player count. Fabiano would indeed have to beat other players to secure victory in the tournament. I don’t know what relevance you imagine that has.

>>539274217>I legit cannot make my brain work on the level of a 5 year old. It's just constant dogshit, trying to play way too fast, not thinking, only using instincts I don't have. This shit right here is exactly why anyone with any sense knows that playing speed chess is terrible for people who are just starting. It should be painfully obvious that it's a bad idea to condition yourself into playing with little if any thinking (which is what fast time controls do) when you have pretty much no experience with the game, but people really like to gaslight themselves to death when it comes to this for whatever reason and say that it's fine. They think it's a natural progression to still hang multiple of your pieces every game (AKA to not even have a full, intuitive understanding of the RULES OF THE GAME such as how every piece moves and where it can go in a given turn) even after playing hundreds and hundreds of games of chess. That would be a mad amount of experience if these were standard or rapid games. There are people who don't see, at all, the sheer absurdity in something like this. And what suffers the most is the morale of the new player dragging the stone up the hill forever, of course.

Bumping with Reti's most well-known endgame study.White to draw.
>>539221404>they think castling is questionableBut castling is questionable
>>539302928At a shitter level, I think it's a sense of "power" remember that many people consider chess the game of geniuses and super logical people (we know that's not true but they don't know cuz they don't play/have experience) when they lose, they feel attacked, like their "intelligence" is not good enough. They play 1 game or more and lose every game, they don't want to study, don't want to understand the game (long process) so they hate people that know how to play and they look at them with disdain and think they are "pompous" and shallow and pedantic (kek) just like pic related. So they try to win by cheating and get a relief in the form of "vendetta" something like " What happens now bitch? Weren't you super smart? You're losing now, what are you gonna do?" Did you ever get worse for no apparent reason? If so how did you fix it?Up to monday I was steadily holding 2000+ .cum rapid, yesterday I lost every rated game I played and even in lichess anon I was blundering 10x more than usual.Today I dusted off one of my many smurf accounts which was around 1850 and even there I went +4-4=1 so I'm more than 150 points weaker than I was 2 days ago.The main problem is that I'm missing obvious moves from my opponent all the time even when I take my time to look for them or I notice I can do a certain move because it blunders something but then the very next move I forget and do it, it's driving me crazy especially since usually calculation is the best part of my game

If I were FIDE president, I'd do 2 Grand Swiss events each qualifying 3, and World Cup qualifying 2, fuck the rating spot. But that has the side effect of not making people go out to play other tournaments, which the circuit spots do.
>Poopoopeepeedananda will get the circuit spotCRINGE

>>539363494I don't know about you but I forget about my OTB games as soon as the tournament is over, losses, wins or draws. If I didn't take photos of the scoresheets I wouldn't even remember what happened after the first move.

>>539361176kill yourself faggot
If you took a decent titled player (say, an FM or IM) and took away all their opening theory knowledge beyond a few moves, leaving them with mainly just knowledge of opening principles and some vague ideas/themes/traps for each opening, would they get rolled and end up hardstuck <2200 elo, or would their calculation ability and tactical knowledge carry them to a decent strength?

>>539371730I'm a racist, unironically. At least as far as I know, being aware of basic statistics or the fact that there isn't a single universal human brain phenotype independent of regional genetic variation is sufficient to render someone a horrible, irredeemable "racist".And I'm sufficiently disagreeable that I think that's pretty funny

>>539369352From what I've read from her and others, Polgar seemed to do the least preparation of the super GMs. It's like she'd take a glance at the latest theory five minutes before the game, and then go play.

>>539377414Hate hans cause you ain't hans
>>539302928Most top players have cheated at one time or another.
>>539302928Some video game cheating is fun, I especially enjoyed writing my own cheats (wallhacks, aimbots etc.) because it felt like a real accomplishment and it was fun to try to evade anticheat measures. I never used cheats in any kind of ranked gameplay, of course. But with chess, there's not even a challenge, cheating is totally trivial and doesn't demonstrate any kind of skill or technical aptitude, it's just straight up defection on the social contract that makes online play possible at all.
>>539371730>>539372129I had issues with com chat rules one time out of thousands of messages of vicious abuse, and as soon as I contact them (this was when you still could) and said bitch I’ve paid you guys hundreds of dollars you’re not about to mute me, they said it was a “mistake” and reversed it within days.Lichess will shadow mute you for the slightest infraction and sometimes even ban you outright (I’ve heard people say that happened here). Danny is doing lip service here but com is not NEARLY as tone policing as lichess. It’s like the difference between America and Soviet Russia. You can really say anything you want on com.
>>539388838>thousands of messages of vicious abuseWhy tho kek
>>539388838> I’ve paid you guys hundreds of dollars you’re not about to mute mehahaha, if there's one thing you can count on chesscom for, it's throwing all other principles aside in their relentless quest to squeeze as much money out of their users as possible> thousands of messages of vicious abuseI really am missing out on half of the fun of online chess, huh
>>539389104I had anger issues exclusively when it came to chess and I don’t know why. I flew off the handle over everything. Suspected cheats, gimmick openings, refusing to resign, lucking into a win. I have something odd inside me that CAN’T endure the idea of people I don’t respect thinking they’re better than me, so when cheats or cowardly trade-everything players or flaggers would beat me, I felt like I had to get through to them and make them see how yeah maybe they “won”, but they shouldn’t kid themselves that they’re not pathetic losers. So I’d just unload reams of messages both in chat and then continue on into their DMs lmao. Trust me, com does NOT care.

>>539422836It's chess, not the bible, wtf.>>539390160The irony is that the reason you have to reach for excuses and lash out at opponents is because in chess you have no externalities to blame. >>539425435>yeah and that reason is marketing. Chess has always been a game for unsportsmanlike schizophrenic freaks.Your brain is way too internet-rotted. Chess has been known as a gentleman's game forever, much longer than you've been following modern youtube drama for. Even Benjamin Franklin wrote an entire article about sportsmanship in chess.https://americanliterature.com/author/benjamin-franklin/essay/the-morals-of-chess
>>539437018A true Chessable Chad knows bowdler theory as well. You’re not gonna win that battle
>>539437083>Chess has been known as a gentleman's game forever,Yeah, because of marketing. The first world champion went schizo, the second dodged the third like a coward, the fourth lost to the vastly inferior fifth because he was a drunkard, the sixth was an apparatchik who prearranged games to win his title back from the seventh, eight nine ten were decent, but eleventh was once again a schizo, twelfth was another greasy apparatchik, thirteenth founded his own federation and then refused to play the guy who won his candidates, fourteenth is having schizophrenic meltdowns on youtube and that brings us to the zoomie era you mentioned. And this is just the tip of the iceberg, not even going into the shit non-champions got up to.

>>539440453Do you literally not know the meaning of the word "marketing"?
>>539440453I think "vastly inferior" is too strong for Euwe. While I'd agree Alekhine was the superior player, it's more like 1) Alekhine completely underestimated him, and 2) Euwe was an amateur (in the literal sense) who considered his teacher's job as his main occupation, meaning we never saw a fully armed and operational Euwe. From what I've read, the modern concept of match preparation started with Euwe.I consider Euwe an underestimated world champion to this day.
