It's not the time travel, the presence of Blaze where she shouldn't be or even the fact that it retcons itself.Elise having Iblis sealed inside her when she was a child and if she cried it would release Iblis. This plot point is so fucking retarded because children will cry over just about anything and it's genuinely impossible for me to believe that Elise went through her entire childhood and most of her puberty without crying once. That is simply just fucking impossible.

Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 were built specifically for the Sega Dreamcast's SH4 CPU.Dreamcast goes all out on transparency and lighting, supports 8-bit destination alpha blending with 24-bit sourcing 32-bit z-buffer, Saturn and Dreamcast diffuse+specular lightning based on palette indices, Dreamcast used tile layered deferred rendering which supported order independent transparency.Technically SA1 does have dynamic lighting effects, but you can't see them because they almost always get overridden with palette lighting. the Chaos underlight, which was in some early screenshots, is only visible with Ninja Lights but it still technically in the game. Oddly enough it's nulled out in the Autodemo. Knuckles has a custom Ninja light configured in the cutscene where he has collected all the Master Emerald shards.Sonic Adventure 1 was highly downgraded in terms of lighting on on the GC. SA2 lacked a bunch of shadowing effects which used the DC's modifier volumes. SA2 DC abused the Dreamcast's volumetric fog features for some interesting effects, like security alarms (Iron Gate, Flying Dog, Egg Quarters) and approximated "rain waves" (White Jungle). These effects are gone in SA2B, replaced with full-screen overlays (Flying Dog, Egg Quarters) or with a rotating vertex light (Iron Gate)Sega changed SA1's palette based lighting to specular lighting in SADX GC port and they barely even used it. SA2 CnkMultiDraw does support Vertex color + Lighting though used in EventsThe SA1 DC to SADX GC porting team likely ran into problems implementing palette lighting, so they figured it would be easier to just update everything that didn't work immediately after they were brought over to SADX. Even SA2B doesn't use specular in the same way the DC version uses it.Sonic fans have made attempts to replicate these effects in the SADX (Direct3D 8) and SA2B (DX9) Windows PC ports.

I also remember when they tried to put it in IDW and had to remove it. But anyway, my realization was that if we are to take the "two worlds" nonsense seriously, then the best way to make sense of it is just that Shadow 2005, Unleashed, and Forces, all take place on three different planets. Space travel seems relatively accessible in this universe, so it would actually work, and multiple species could easily live on multiple planets. I wouldn't be surprised if this is what Sonic Team wanted to do, but if Forces was their attempt at establishing that then they did an awful job and now we all hate it lol. Forces even had the entire world use a made up alien language. Tangle and Whisper were very interesting, solid characters early in the comics' run. But then once they actually got "shipped" together by the readers and writers alike, Whisper's trauma baggage because a black hole swallowing both characters up. In such a way where no actual progression or development was happening, only forced drama that makes Tangle play therapist for Whisper, and Whisper being too caught up all her trauma and emotions to actually be the competent sniper she was supposed to be. Tangle is supposed to be a discount Girl Sonic, but being latched onto Whisper in this context pretty much killed that aspect of her character for a long time. But right now, with the Mimic stuff dead and buried, is a good time to refresh both Tangle and Whisper and portray them both much better by allowing them to simply be themselves and move on, in such a way that allows them to be game-friendly or whatever.

Take everything about Tails and Amy that contrast Sonic and add it all on top of Knuckles and you have the perfect lancer to Sonic that is his "partner" in a way that isn't a sidekick, love interest or rival but share qualities with all three. Perfect for what I would call the "fifth" core character.

And that's where a lot of the consolidation with the main brand came in, which kind of coincided around the time I was coming onto the book, which is a bit of a happy coincidence. With IDW Sonic, this was a new contract with a new consolidated goal for the material and completely different kind of working relationship with Sega of America, Sega of Japan, and with the licensee which is IDW.
