holy shit i can't believe it but they actually did it. a borderlands with good FPS gameplay. like almost rivalling D2 good. you can't quite "feel" the impact of every little perk like D2. but the general perk design is just different, in fact a lot of perks are more wholesale impactful than subtle gunfeel changes of D2 style, which is a lot of fun - like the underbarrels and weird shit like throwing a weapon instead of reloading. the ricochet launcher attachment is crazy strong. the movement is just so seemless, dodging and sliding and gliding without interrupting key animations like reloading. and you can sort of "bunny hop" and keep a lot of momentum after dash/glide. i understand the criticism in some videos that melee and grapple are the same buttons, but i think bad players overstated it, the icon clearly closes in to show you getting in range (although grapple is a bit limited yeah)the ordinance slot is great, even with all the heavy weapon options i'm actually just using throwing knives because they've been so fun. enemies react and recoil from getting hit, sometimes you really ragdoll a fucker on headshot, or floating ones drop out of the sky, and bits get blown off. the world, characters and content are a bit bleh, but it's at least not completely obnoxious like BL3. you can enjoy some humour and also some drama. i get open world fatigue very easily and mostly doing only main story, the pace is a bit relentless. but yeah, with the core gameplay feeling so good it's not so bad to be in constant intense combat arenas. will probably be a weak point in the long run though, i doubt the "endgame" will really be that good. it's not really a full live service mmo-lite kinda series i know.overall really didn't think i'd be enjoying a BL game this much.

this is the blandest shooter i have played in a very long time. like specifically the shooting and combat elements of this game are so boring and lame i almost can't believe it. every encounter is floaty hopping point and click with different colored bullets. no thought, enemies often too far away to even have interesting combat encounters with, point and click in a big stretched out map. my performance is fine, but the gameplay is awful.
Is it worth it doing the side quests? I'm kinda blasting main quests right now, figuring I'll get side quests when I unlock true vaulthunter or whatever it is in this game.

favourite regular weapon so far?mine is probably Rougarou, the Jakobs AR. it's semi auto, looks great, has that sort of Kel-Tec CMR 'weird hybrid of a DMR but a carbine' thing going on. so you can stand back and plink with it effectively, whilst it also does fine up close and spamming. can't go wrong with the satisfying Jakobs headshot sound either.

Will say my first complaints about the game are the lack of an FoV slider even with the day one patch, and on XsX there is zero reason for the quality preset to even exist. If you don't use performance even at 1080p you are retarded. Otherwise my first hour has been pretty solid and the game still looks great on performance preset.

>>538823084Unless you've got a 9800x3d overclocked to the tits with a fast kit of ddr5 and the game on a 990 pro with a 3090ti/4090/5090 gpu, you're likely going to be limited to about 60 fps at most without using framegen. UE5 rapes cpu's and gpu's hard. Even with a top of the line setup like described you're probably getting 80fps outdoors and 100fps indoors. They also really need to add an FoV slider. Badly. And work on some of the jank when it comes to aiming with a controller. Otherwise I think gameplay wise it's the best game in the series hands down. Storywise thus far I think it's better than 3 but not quite as good as 2 although 2 was lightning in a bottle and will never ever happen again. I don't regret the purchase and will be putting a shitload of time into the game especially after another round or two of patches.

>>538846289it's a very mild 5/10. you can tell the team working on the level design, the team working on the player movement and combat, and the team working on the enemy AI never once interacted and as a result the overall experience has 0 cohesion. nothing feels placed intentionally, or because it would be fun to interact with, but instead because it looked nice from a flying camera dev POV. all of the combat areas are WAY too big so instead of exciting action you have pointing and clicking at targets a mile away who have no response actions but to stand there and be shot. the whole thing comes off as a very good tech demo made by a class of college seniors for their final project.

I'm not against the notion of unlocking outposts, but specially in the second area they're so fucking far apart, making you wish you could just quick travel to the respawn points instead of the 2 or 3 silos that are in bumfuck nowhere.

i would recommend everyone use cheat engine or wemod to boost movement speed and reload speed by 20-25% it really makes the game feel better without being too explicit with the cheating feel. there's also some settings for gravity that i was meaning to mess around with to make the game feel less floaty but i haven't really gotten into it yet.

Firewerks Armor is hilarious. Got one off of a World Boss on my way to do some quests. I'll have to see if there's a dedicated drop spot for it so I can get a new one in a few levels. Also got a Ripper shotgun with big dick radiation damage that absolutely eats fuckers alive, and it can also launch a fuel rod for massive damage.

early game is always the most fun in these games since late game every build is more or less just infinite sustain + spam some weapon combo that autokills the screen, i think i already found my rafa playstyle that i like the most>found smg that has 30 rounds per sec fire rate alt fire >ability gives you infinite ammo for 7 sec>run in, kill a couple badasses, then run to the back of the map and farm sniper headshots until the ability is back

A lot of the changes seem to be exclusively there to streamline farming bosses and speedruns, the two things I hate the most in Borderlands. A hiccup in momentum but didn't ruin everything. Usually I'm not too thrilled about grappling and flinging myself around but it's pretty alright here. The first vault fight with the phase where the floor is lava so you have to just keep yourself in the air while plinking the top of the cocoon was a delight. Hopefully there is a few more 'floor is lava' phases for other bosses.
