The real shitty thing is that sometimes the tick of the actual attack is when the animation starts and sometimes when it connects and there is no way to tell which a particular enemy follows without meta knowledge because the hitsplat is at the end regardless and if you take damage it might just be an enemy that chips through prayer and if you don't take damage you might've just dodged
