I spent the last two days making an avatar from scratch. Mostly because my the 3d scanned version of me has some fucked up hands. Second is that mixamo does some weird weighting to models. Last is to learn how to get everything setup to go to unity. I did pull the armature from another avatar, so maybe its not 100% from scratch but fuck setting up all those bones. The goal was to fit this basic humanoid avatar to my measurements. I made a world awhile ago to get those measurements in vrc and it puts it in a nice picture for blender. However, it only gets me within a range of the measurement, I had to do a bunch of tweaking and moving to get it to fit right. At first I used blender 4.3, but it doesn't have CATS plugin (idk if the old plugin works for 4.0 versions) but I moved back to 2.9 because I couldn't figure out how to get the rest pose without CATS. 2.9 works just fine for this though. Every bone has its own segment of the mesh, so for weight painting, all I had to do was color it red or blue. Except for a few areas, like the neck and chest. I learned that Unity expects the hands and fingers in a certain orientation on import. That determines what direction the fingers bend. The hands/fingers are annoying to adjust. Had to jump between edit/pose/object A LOT. I can't seem to figure out what determines the position of the controller to the hand. But enough tweaking around it made it feel mostly correct. 14k tris, 1 mat. Anyways, with this new avatar, I'll be using it to figure out how to get the index controller touch pad and grip squeeze into Udon#.
