How do I carry myself out of Guardian/Crusader? I'm typically a support player and I feel like a majority of the losses I have are completely out of my control. Disruptor can maybe justify rushing Aghs because his is just that broken, but otherwise always get utility.For carry, always get a farming item first. Depending on the hero and game this is HotD, Battlefury, Maelstrom, Radiance, or Manta for illusion-based heroes. After that you can start buying fighting items. Don't try to join fights until you have your first fighting item. You will want BKB in 90% of games, don't skip it without a very good reason..Mid and offlane have much more varied playstyles so I can't give a general rude but broadly there are two types of heroes played in these roles. Those who want to get active early with a level 6 power spike and those who need a little bit more farm to be useful with a midgame powerspike. For the former just rush whatever item you need to be most useful (usually a Blink), for the latter you want to get a cheap farming item like Blademail, Vanguard, HotD, or Midas (again depending on the hero and the game) and avoid being too aggressive until you hit your big timing with the second item.

Consider that a bracer/wraith/null is roughly inline with an entire hero level's worth of stats, and they have upsides beyond that. Now consider how often you get into fights in the first 15 minutes of a game? How often would simply being 2 levels higher let you win or at least survive a fight? How much longer can you stay out on the field with the extra regen from a falcon blade (which also gives you hp to survive a gank)? Value stuff lets you snowball by winning fights since dead enemies cannot farm and you get kill gold.
