I’m at level 75, doing tier 5 maps (very slowly) and I haven’t gotten a better weapon in like 12 hours. I feel like I’m trapped in a warehouse full of lotto scratchers. I’m rolling on every base I come across and have gotten nothing but brick prefixes.I really don’t think PoE itemization is all it’s cracked up to be but I guess this is better than being guaranteed an upgrade every 15 minutes like in other games.

For melee weapons you need the highest %phys roll and if it doesn't have that it's trash. Ele rolls are flat and usually garbage and basically every skill converts phys to ele but nothing converts ele to phys so having the most physical damage possible is always beneficial and you can double up by rolling T1 phys and T1 hybrid accuracy/phys. In PoE1 gearing has a lot more variables and you don't have ridiculous shit like weapons rolling plus SEVEN to skill level making it completely impossible to even consider using anything but that roll.

0.3 is what made poe 2 officially the better game than poe 1. Before that, my future playing it was questionable. The 0.4 end game rework should solve the majority of the remaining issues and end poe 1 for good. At this point, I'm not sure poe 1 even has a valid reason to exist anymore.

In the process of becoming tanky enough to be able to actually jump inside an Abyss pack, you already became untouchable to every uber and all other content in the game. This is why melee doesn't work in this game, there's too many mobs which make any degree of mechanical skill irrelevant so you're only down to either becoming a theorycrafted giga god or you just play at range. Melee only started working in poe 1 when they added in degenerate recovery mechanics to be able to brute force yourself into end game map mechanics.
