Ultimately though it comes down to your personal preference and what kind of game you're aiming to create. The best way to read vns is to use a script to hide the japanese text and let mtl do everything else. It's easy enough to set up and doesn't interfere too much with the experience. The only downside is that it takes some time to get used to how the scripts work and figuring out what exactly needs to be adjusted to make sure that nothing gets messed up.

They could've just as easily said "hey we're best friends!" and cut back on all of the romantic teasing. The whole point of including it is to let the reader decide whether or not to go along with it. And if the author wants to give us both sides of the story (that's the power of choice) then he needs to present both possibilities in the same context. Otherwise it looks suspicious at best, like he wanted to include it for shock value. So yeah it's definitely cheating if you skip over it completely.But again, if you're not interested in it then there's no need to dwell on it either. Maybe it'll appeal to another person later on down the road. You never know until you try it yourself.
