I wish SMT VI did a similar take to SJ.
I'd love to see an SMT tackle the whole "hyperconsumarism" and mankind souls are weighed by money that we're destroying everything and going way past our natural limits just for the sake of "progress and money" and how it will eventually destroy us.

Can't really think of a Law/Chaos/Neutral solution for this though.
Law would probably be go back to stone ages, a central power controlling us so that our lives are dictated from start to finish so that we can live a fulfilling life even if it's not "real".
I'd want Neutral to be the actual damaging choice in which goes FULL GUNGHO FOR HUMANITYYYYYYY and humans/demons go to space to fuck over another planet and they'll keep doing so to other planets because that's humanity's will.
I don't know what chaos would be. Anything I think about is pretty much like neutral.

I feel like Chaos would be some kind of toxic self-improvement. Tearing yourself and everything around you apart, burning out your body, mind, and soul, trying to reach something "real" or to escape from society.

It's very obvious that SMT V protagonist was originally planned to be female. But since SMT is a franchise meant for teenage boys, the higher-ups at Atlus demanded the development team to change the protagonist gender to male. For a build you can try to do partial stat distribution and not just 3 dump every level. If you want a safe number from what little I remember, 150 luck is safe to go with to just dump until superboss land? Again, someone with a compendium at NG will have a better estimate. Also note poison damage just scales with your level and skills, no stats boost it actually if wanting to go that way.

Basically it's a ratio between your luck and the target's luck put through ailment chances/affinities/taboo/resistances (note this increases the more you proc an ailment against a target, Dekajaon resets this). Having 1.5x enemy luck is the max before diminishing returns and I find good enough insofar you have high affinities (not ailment affinity necessarily but the affinity for whatever skill you want, Promised Land for example gets increased ailment proc chance with higher dark affinity). I wish I could give good numbers for a stepping off point but I don't have a NG Demi-Fiend/Beelzebub to act as your NG luck ceiling. Also a crit build demands more luck than an ailment build (diminishing returns only start when you hit around 4x enemy luck).

Its raw damage is Magic scaling while proc chance is luck, something to also note is that its ailment proc chance is the highest at the game (barring magatsuhi skills) with a base 100% before going into calculations. Taboo doubles it and functionally ignores resists and I think the only boss that might be immune to poison's Chernobog in CoV?

I'll be honest, I stopped engaging with the demon haunt outside of quickly popping in for the extra mc stats from the bench post like, halfway through area 2 because its tediously implemented.
I need to make it clear I'm not some sort of soul hackers 2 liker, that game sucks rancid ass to the point I didn't even finish it and I'd feel offended if someone assumed I liked it because of this statement, but I honestly think ON PAPER demon recon is a good idea and they should have followed in that vein. Having your demons explore the levels with you instead of being tucked away in the side area you have to constantly go out of your way to pace breakingly visit is way better an idea. They just have to also you know... not retardely take out demon negotation and dungeon treasure as well.

Feel like Chaos could like modern-day capitalism to a point, might-makes-right but taken to the mighty dollar could easily be something a Melchom or Lucifuge would herald. Let humans be heartlessly, selfishly, but pragmatically greedy.

If wanting to lean into the poison proc of Promised Land (or of ailments), you want luck so you can do something like 1/2 for MAG/LCK on stat boost until 150 luck (at which point, can start full dumping into MAG). Note that 100% is a base chance, still has to go through resistances/luck ratios/etc. If you want skill ailment proc chances, you'll need the fusion calc because the game doesn't give it to you. Something to also note is that if a move has multiple ailments, it performs an individual roll per ailment (why Accursed Poison is always an ailment because its 200% + procs all ailments at once, big one coming to mind is Zeus' Madness Glint).

In the beginning you have no goal, you wander around until you bump into hero and chaos hero and it isn't until you wander into the bar to get the matchbook that you're given set objectives. Then it's pretty solid up until you leave the diamon realm an save the heroine and it's back to being aimless again. Nothing happens until you wander in to Alice's funplex. Then after that, you're aimless once again. Law hero says to go to the police station but that's optional. You kind of just circle around Ginza, wander into Yama's sex dungeon, and wander some more. Then finally you're back on track with destiny land and the story is consistent from there.

Only benefit I see here is getting Yoko to walk around with and not Tao. Though they could have done this right after you lose Aogami pretty easily I think. The alignment cut off should have happened there.

Still though, Lilith will openly bitch at you abou men being bad in the haunt and that's in english. Yoko openly says she represents all their values. Modern megaten often treats newgame+/cycles as canon in some way by acknowledging them (Satan and arahabki in VV for example) but doesn't go the full mile in letting you change events you have knowledge of, and one day I want them to make a game where they do go the full mile and make a more dynamic system that lets you do that. For the record I'm not asking for a gay old wish fulfilment thing where you can prevent every last even slightly inconvenient or sad thing, I'm expecting the writing to be better than that and probably even lean into it as a theme like every VN ever that covers timetravel and ends up coming to the despair is a universal constant idea

I'd consider that a benefit considering Yoko has a more fleshed out character/history than Tao, so being around them could be more interesting. Could be more insight to what's up with Shakan and Tiamat (who herself could have dialogue acting as your Aogami, offering a different dynamic than you and Aogami). There's also the Qadistu themselves that could give extra insight if their consciousness exist somewhere in Yoko/Tiamat. Finally you could even have something with Samael to comment on you both fighting on the same side, maybe Yoko offers a comment to what Samael speaks of (to still allow Satan in this route, he could have you fight Mastema's shadow and himself before testing you fully with Satan).

I was just poking fun at that little moment in post-qadistu scene, that "torturing" meant sending their best exorcist to the hardest missions (Yoko was mentioned as gifted earlier in the game). It wasn't like Lilith referenced the part of her locked up in Shakan or that Yoko was specifically sent to suicide missions she wasn't supposed to survive from (and thus how she came to be known as gifted by soldering through). Made this for nufag kun. Disagree or agree? I put Standalone * as the recommended row since it's stuff that generally plays well and doesn't have too much connection with the rest of the series. I'm mixed on V but that's another story all together..

I wanted to split Standalone minor jank into Standalone Minor or Major jank but I can't really tell what's the line that separates the two and there's stuff like SMT1 plays decently okay and I probably recommend it more than starting with IV but IV does play modernly better so it's kinda hard to dictate which one to go for.

The funny thing is that I think Nocturne is a great starter game because it's the black sheep of mainline. It's so fundamentally different than 1,2, and 4 (again 5 is an outlier....for reasons) that you can play it and you won't really feel like you're missing out on references or callbacks. It's also widely different from the other games so it's nice to get your foot wet on the neatest one and then see what mainline really is.
