Can you elaborate on this? I'd rather not listen to the shitty auto-dubbing but assuming you're not starting from scratch making good decks doesn't take long at all. Do they mean for new players? I guess that's true but if you focus on a single deck you can play for two months and get enough gems/UR dust to make a deck with a lot of staples. The Raidraptor structure is legitimately pretty good and you only need 2 copies of it. Add some hand trap staples and you've basically got a core you can use to grind early gems to pull for a "real" deck. I did this with Dragonmaid and that was way shittier, but I made Labrynth soon after.

You can make basically any deck in your first deck for free unless it's a super expensive one that combines several archetypes. At worst if you get unlucky you'll have to substitute some of the hand traps for other cards. And you can pretty much make a deck every month after that.

It's the one case where new/returning players are really fucked over hard since if the deck you want is from like 3-5 months ago then you're kinda screwed unless you're willing to spend your crafting points irresponsibly. It's not terrible as a F2P you just need time to accumulate a dust stockpile, which happens naturally as you play the game. Proliferation of 1 card combos definitely hurt design. Even HERO couldn't leverage a single A Hero Lives to go for it's full combo, but Spright can convert a single Spright Starter to an endboard by itself. Before this most decks were 2-card combos, or if 1-card combos existed they would lead to drastically lower power endboards. Spright, Tear, Kashtira, and a lot of decks since POTE are defined by their 1CCs and you NEED to be able to stop them with non-engine, hence the proliferation of slim engines with half the deck being hand traps. I find it also drastically lowers skill expression. Every game ends up feeling the same whereas 2-card combo heavy decks like Bird Up could really test your ability to make the best plays.

The worst thing about about POTE decks was the resource generation. You were rewarded for barfing out your entire deck turn one because you would end up with more card in the hand and gy that would recurr if the turn 2 player failed to otk. The resource management aspect of the game no longer exists. There is no longer a risk in playing cards in newer decks. Turn 1 because so strong they had to create cancer like Tenpai to create a semblance of balance.

I was thinking about this when it came to making a pure @Ignister deck. You can very easily go through your entire extra deck, and I even theorycrafted a few lines specifically to put back spent link climbing cards back just in case I got board-wiped. Some combo decks do run the risk of just running out of shit to do, but yeah a lot of post-POTE stuff is not like this. Kashtira, Fiendsmith, hell even lower tier archetypes like Azamina White Woods can recycle endlessly. In a way, it's an obvious next step to take with archetype design. Running out of Tri-Brigades to send feels bad and leaves you without plays, so make the next link combo archetype recycle itself. I think there's a way to do this smartly but Konami rarely does that.

The easiest comparison is Live Twins.

Prior to shit like Circular/SE etc your archetypal "one cards" were Marincess, Live Twin - to a lesser extent Striker and Exo. They would have very contained engines but would end on small boards bolstered with card draw and the ability to play lots of handtraps or supporting non-engine - which was also their going second plan.

This type of deck has been fucking murdered because "1 card combo and half a deck of handtraps" is something every combo deck does now, except they also end on strong boards. Their fix to Live Twin and to any other deck they've been updating is to just slot them into the new model. Especially right now if they're link strategies or fiends.

You know for such a shit meta, I’m able to play quite a few decks and still perform. Even won into malice going second with Labrynth (granted I had my arias/banquet combo to cuck them).
Like seriously I see no difference between this meta and Snake Eyes apart from the fact it’s not gonna last 2 years like it did. Not a single meta has been “fair”, the next one would need to instantly nuke K9 and Yummy to be even remotely fun since Dracotail is the only “balanced” deck.
I think people are just tired in general because the game is gacha and it causes fatigue when you farm for not much at all and feel doubly discouraged you wasted limited resources on a deck you are not performing well enough with. It also doesn’t help Konami are some of the greediest fuckers on this planet.
We’re lacking QoL like making rooms or casual count towards dailies because it’s still spending time playing the game.

This list also seems to be aimed at killing sloppa decks by giving point taxes to every archetype. Like just looking at White Forest it's not bad. But the White Forest point tax+Diabellstar tax+Azamina tax makes the deck unplayable at 100 points even before looking at generic boss availability.

Honestly, just refusing to surrender will win you a lot more games than you might expect. Especially against decks with long turns but great grind games. A Memento player can have you dead to rights with all their followup but if they have 50 seconds on the clock and you have a meager board they have to play through properly to reach their OTK then it can be difficult for them to do it on time.
The MD timer is one of its biggest advantages over paper play.

I'm not personally keeping random URs of decks I'm confident don't appeal to me on the chance they might be relevant and I'm a very casual player but still manage to make a good amount of decks including heavy UR taxed waifu decks and meta decks regularly

If you pull a generic rank 4 XYZ card UR for example, rank 4 XYZ are some of the best in the game especially with ryzeal now, so on one hand that's an example of something you could consider keeping, but on another hand if you google it or look for it on MDM website (IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT: you can also click on the tabs OCG or TCG to get sent to yugioh meta sister site and get a peek forward to see if it becomes meta in the next 6~ months)
