I kind of like the Ulrich minigame. The biggest downside for me is actually the combat segments. Enemies are just tanky and aren't a real threat, gadgets do the heavy lifting and picking which insignia to use boils down to "kill enemies faster with this setup than the other setup". The simulation portion was kind of enjoyable. I liked collecting stuff and looking for random encounters. There are even hidden quest/questline depending on some choices and factors, like special assistants you randomly pick up or talk to at the shelter. Its half-assed but it felt like it had potential.
