is this game at least better than the fallout games?
the only beth games I like are the elder scrolls games.
it's either this or cyberpunk I get next. CP obviously has a better reception with most people but I don't think any studio achieves the level of interactivity that bethesda games have.
>>
>>540440149
Cyberpunk 2077 is like going to a theater to watch a movie, while Starfield is like watching some Made for TV movies at home. One lets you experience a great movie on the big screen with a high production budget, and you get to choose from a nice assortment of snacks from the concession. The other is more of a "results may vary" experience, but you get to be more comfortable at a place decorated in the way that you want, and you can eat whatever you want.

>>
>>540452974
an RV of course I don't want Sarah or Andreja to hold my back while the terrain is fucking up the bike
>>
>Borderlands 4 is all hover bikes without normal vehicles
>Starfield is the opposite
>>
>>540440149
Since you mentioned interactivity, probably stick with Starfield (or any BGS game really). Cyberpunk looks more like neon lights GTA with how it abandoned things like "RPG" conventions, joinable factions, lifepaths, etc. instead opted for more crime cinematic storytelling and the audience seems to be fine with that

That said... Starfield doesn't hold your hand to ensure that you have a "golden path". The progression is slower and less supporting of jack-of-all-trades (because of feedback from past games), it requires you to make informed decisions on where to go and what to do, no Big Bad to defeat, companions have actual adult problems. More of a personal journey, it demands that you have intrinsic motivation

TL;DR do you like TES Daggerfall and its pacing, warts and all? If so, I'd say you'd enjoy this one

Y’know, I can never really justify siding with the Crimson Fleet no matter what, even though my character is an ex-spacer bastard. I mean, an ex-con should feel comfortable with pirates, right?

Unfortunately, what matters more than money and a place to mass-peddle contraband is XP. No way in hell will I ever accept having half the dungeons be filled with friendlies.
>>
>>540528548
I changed that with mods but honestly, playing as an evil person doesn't interest me in the long run. It's fun when there's a story behind it but generic stealing gets to a point.

Alright, but only because that happens to be hostile, and also a bit more dangerous since it jumps all over the place. There are far weirder in game.

I don’t believe in “evil” playthroughs or characters. My character doesn’t take candy from a baby, nor does he want to blow up a spaceship full of civilians because some corporate rats asked him to, he just likes money and is sometimes an asshole. He’ll also occasionally pick the “correct” options just because they happen to be more beneficial, not out of kindness.

Agreed. We could use more natural POIs rather than man made structures. Caves infested with alien life, deep valleys like the handmade Cassiopeia one, but maybe more linear with some split off paths to encourage exploration, an underground oasis, maybe some ancient civilization shit built by some humanoid aliens with an aesthetic similar to Aztec temples, etc.

I'm at one of the POIs from Lost Light, and I already have to face a ton of Va'ruun Zealots
>>
Place has seen better days
>>
Well stocked kitchen area, this POI might be ideal for a survival mod
>>
Second location
>>
This POI is smaller than the last one I was at
>>
Definitely have the spawn settings up to high, already found the third POI this mod has to offer. From what I've seen of this mod so far, I don't think it's really worth $7 asking price, seems more akin to $3 or $4.
>>
>>
>>
Okay, now this one is supposed to be one of the larger POIs you can find in this mod
>>
This one's infested with some high level scorpion enemies, so be wary of that
>>
Yeesh
>>
Alright, I'll try looking for the last two POIs later. I'm going to add to my statement above a bit and say that the mod at best might be worth $5, similar to the Forgotten Frontiers mods. Lost Light doesn't really seem to offer you much more than the 6 new POIs advertised, and as for the 4 I explored so far, while they look pretty neat imo, they're not big dungeons like you would expect even in the vanilla game. The POIs do offer a lot of supplies you can scavenge from them both in food and ammo, so if you were go for a hardcore survivalist playthrough that wants to avoid the big cities or whatever, this mod might be ideal for that. If you were going buy it, I'd suggest maybe waiting for that to be discounted by Bethesda or something.
>>
>>540558845
I got the impression that Forgotten Frontiers dungeons are deeper and more thought out.

Would you be okay with companions having full AI module that generates voice lines on the go?
>>
>>540569710
No.
>>
>>540570264
Why?
>>
>>540570364
AI is a crutch for talentless hacks and should never, ever, be considered as a suitable replacement for decent fucking writers.
>>
>>540570675
Keyword decent. AI probably would be a suitable replacement for modern Bethesda writers.
>>
>>540571705
The solution to that problem is to hire better writers, not replace them with AI.
>>
>>540572165
I agree, but if comes down to a choice between whatever dipshit wrote the Paradiso quest or GPT I'm going with the robot.
>>
>>540573961

>>
>>540537182
Almost every vanilla headmorph + eye combo results in neutral to negative canthal tilt so we are all the big gay.
More so if the character designers tried compensating for shit eye genetics (as people in real life do) via eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, etc.

>>
>>540570675
Companions have way too much fluff dialogue to be wasted on a human writer
>>
>>540588901
AI is literally incapable of controlling itself, it’ll flanderize the characters and revolve all dialogue it generates around their most basic quirks.
>>
Annowannaway for our lives to be over

It’s an entirely different matter if I board those ships. I have to make my follower wait on the ship, then go into the ship and stealth-melee everyone while the invisibility power is active so I can murder without worry over increasing my bounty from a 4-figure to a 6-figure.

I really don't understand why there isn't a "go it alone" route to the main quest. If I RPed as a pirate, why the fuck would I wake up one day and decide to be an explorer just so I can chase down the unity?
>>
>>540612684
You can’t RP as a pirate, you instead become a pirate. The closest thing to that is a gangster or a space scoundrel, the latter is implied to be a spacer, aka space bandits. You don’t “wake up one day” to join Constellation, it’s just that every single universe in the Unity has your character touch an artifact, it’s a hard-baked event that cannot be altered or deviated from.

As someone whose main character is a Space Scoundrel, I never felt any kind of disconnect from joining an explorers club, one of the veteran members (Vlad) is an ex-pirate himself after all. The main drive behind your character’s search for the Artifacts is born out of curiosity, no matter what background they came from.
>>
When you've installed so many mods that adds POIs that you start to become unsure whether that some of the vanilla ones you rarely come across are vanilla or added by a mod.

>>
>>540629171
ha, you didn’t mean any of that shit. If you actually played the game, you’d know you need to drop the artifacts at constellation before unlocking faction questlines, meaning you can’t even join the pirates before you officially join constellation.

That's the nature of Bethesda games for me anyway. You get the strong urge to play them, then you get bored after a short while, go play something else, get the urge to play a Bethesda game again, and then you repeat the cycle. I literally have Skyrim idling right now while I'm in the middle of an OStim scene with the wife of Ulfric added by another mod, and I'm just on YouTube watching some gameplay of Vader Immortal instead.
>>
>>540742029
I had to take a look at myself when I downloaded Skyrim, plus the SkyTrek mod, and had my character just walk between cities while I looked at my phone, selling some ware, auto-walking back to my farm, doing some work, and then auto-walking back to town to sell stuff. I don't even know what I got out of it but I was doing it for a irl week before I uninstalled it

Realistic expectations for 2.0?
I assume we get cruise control mode, and maybe alternate starts. Hoping the main story gets a total rewrite. More quests on each of the worlds that doesn't involve leaving them. Make all the crewmates romancable with ai voices will be fine. Some kind of starborn faction you can join which unlocks a mode where nobody is essential and you can kill everyone. Also they should make it so people aren't essential anymore in general so you can kill them and fail quests. Also more new universes, maybe a cellshaded one.
>>
>>540745065
Also more ship parts for each faction. Also planets need to not have outposts on them if they haven't been settled. And then you can settle them and that allows for people to settle them and then you start seeing the normal POIs. More lore, just in books, would be fine. The ability to rename planets and make new cities.
>>
>Realistic expectations
When I hear queers say this I know they mean low expectations.
>>
>>540745065
They should also make it so you have to fight UC or Freestar to enter the temples because they've corndoned them off for everyone and you have to fight to get to them. That can explain why there are settlements near to temples. Also they should add aliens. Proper ones who can speak. They can just be normal characters, not some big new discovery. Change some NPCs to be aliens. Thats it. Also I hope they make temples into dungeons. That would make them way better.
>>
Armor and Clothing should have evolved from Skyrim.
>Footwear
>Legs
>Chest
>Arms
>Helmet
>Ring
>Necklace
>>
>>540745757
Also there should be a quest that takes multiple unity jumps to complete. And there should be quests to kill every main character who is normally not killable (Bayou, that Hopetech guy). Also more cars and roads and stuff. I hope they just take a bunch of creations and make them cannon. That would do it.

Starfield should also have like an ingame Constellation Guide to the Settled Systems that you can fill out as you scan animals and planets and stuff. It should update with every new scan, and you should be able to refer to it to find things and people. Also people should comment on it and how much work you've done on it. Also after completing a main faction quest, you should hear about it on the news, but also in papers you can buy and keep so you can read about your exploits or use to give to npcs to prove youre a badass

He talks a lot about adding new features... but not fixing existing ones. Just "A new DLC. New mechanics. Other delights". No word on improving systems or anything.

In defense of RNG weapons: Starfield doesn't have an open world that punishes unplanned exploration, meaning you can go to Masada III without getting soft locked. It's not like old RPGs, say Fallout 1 where going to The Cathedral is a death sentence if you're low level and without good gear. Even though that location probably has high level loot, probably, I can't remember. What I'm saying is: RNG guns fit the type of world Starfield is doing. Most Bethesda games actually save for Fallout 76 which had a world separated by levels and a colored map yet they abandoned that idea 2 years later and opted for basic bland level scaling.

And as someone who has experienced multiple builds from the game, the most broken ones are achievable through grinding the skill trees and finding rare crafting resources that open up a broken gun like the Hornet's Nest. From my 9 completed characters, I only managed to find 1 broken weapon worthy of using throughout the whole game. And that is double damage at full health sniper which is a nasty combo. Bethesda still insists on empowering stealth archers. I say they should remove the damage increase for rifles in stealth mode.

Haven't played Starfield in awhile, turns out I already have the dlc yet I have no memory of ever buying the dlc.
>>
>>540841269
The problem is lack of curation options to stop the RNG wasting too much time. If I want to play a gunslinging cowboy or something, my options for good revolvers consist of "grind 1000 cryolabs and pray" or "settle for basic weapons" which is technically viable but not fun when you're constantly looking at better drops that don't fit the concept. Its a system that punishes preferences, and even being a loot goblin that uses everything gets frustrating because so many weapons are subpar regardless of rolls. The frustration gets even worse when you factor in the the repetitive POIs and Unity wiping loot.

I think the sweet spot solution would be something like McClarence, but done through tiered outpost buildings instead of dialogue options.

>>
>>540871075
How long have you been playing on your Starfield save? The drawback of being able to collect so much shit and generate new areas when you land on planets is that it leads to save bloat, which can cause the game's performance to gradually worsen over time.

Because they're still heavily constrained. Documentation isn't public and the CK is missing important tools.

But I'm not sure menuless shipbuilding is even possible without engine level changes. Maybe if you could rig up some crazy bypass shit where the player can assemble a dummy ship out of decorations, then run a script that somehow translates that into shipbuilder inputs to spit out an actual ship? Anyone skilled enough to pull that off is probably busy making their own games.

Don't expect them to be available in a DLC either because lore-wise Trident Luxury is a cruise line company, they don't sell hab parts to people. The most that will probably happen officially is that player will either steal a whole Class M ship from them or salvage an abandoned one. Might not even be pilotable, it'll likely be stationary in one star system as a player home.
>>
Mass Effect is probably fucked, so I guess it's just Starfield and Outer Worlds that will be active in the space rpg scene for the foreseeable future.
>>
>>540955820
Damn, when they bother to add lore to the game it's ass
Same as that retarded settlement limit that the factions apparently agreed to

Would you rather have:
1. Officially made Trident Luxury habs for your ship building

Trident Class M ships
>>
>>540955820
Not like its impossible to work around that. The player could get them from a chop shop, or they could be a source of weird space yachts that don't work with other habs but allow for gimmicks like VTOL with rotating internals a la Slave 1. The fact that we don't even see a single Trident ship even though we visit a couple pimped out luxury ships makes me think its cut content more than a lore thing.

5 years between Oblivion and Skyrim, and they released Fallout 3 in the middle. 4 years after that, Fallout 4 was released. In the space of 9 years they put out 4 games and about 15 DLCs. For those who found Oblivion to be a charming mess on release but don't feel the same about this can you explain why? I haven't played Starfield but I loved Oblivion despite its flaws and there's familiarity when I sift through video essays on the issues of Starfield.
Or is it just simply because there's very little value when Starfield is working fine?

A multitude of poor design choices fucked up the gameplay loop and the setting is too dull to distract from the problems. There's no charm, and instead of navigating a mess it feels more like fighting an obstacle course.

Its not beyond repair, gameplay wise. The settings and map update did address a lot of the day 1 problems, there are already mods to smooth out most of the others, and more will come with time. People forget that modder "magic" involves years of tinkering and iteration.

If there's one positive thing to say about Bethesda, it's that their Creations ecosystem isn't "usually" overcharging for some bullshit
>>
>>541113065
Wait, I fucked that up. 900 fighter coins is actually approximately $20, and you actually have to spend $23.99 + tax to get enough coins to buy that shit

Na, it overcharges all the time.
>>
>>541117917
The maximum that Bethesda allows modders to charge is $10, and many of the paid mods available gives you a decent amount of content as opposed to a single cosmetic for $20 that you can't even put on any of the main fighters. You can even refund the mods you don't like if there's a valid reason for it

This likely won't affect Bethesda "much" because of the high engagement in their titles, not to mention they're arguably passive money makers with the help of Game Pass, MMOs, Mobile Games and the paid modding ecosystem that also exists within Skyrim and Fallout 4. With all this said, Starfield in particular has enough breathing room to see maybe a dozen failures before it starts to actually affect Bethesda's bottom line. It likely won't be abandoned, but we can expect to see the official production of content for it slowing down over time like with some past titles.
>>
>>541206883
We'll at least get Terran Armada and whatever base game tweaks they're working on. Chances are everything's pretty much done, they're just waiting on voice lines and a good release window for PS5/Switch 2 port. But I wouldn't be surprised if the next big update is the last one the game gets, until an anniversary update in 2033 that doesn't do anything except break everyone's mods and make the graphics 3 percent better.

Got a weird itch to want to reinstall starfield again, I havent played it since a few months after launch and was going to ask how much they improved it but reading through the thread it seems not much has changed?
I’m asking because I did have a few mods and assumed patches and dlc will break my saves unless I update them and it’s no guarantee the modders stayed interested enough to keep them updated.
I never finished the game but I got a good ways into it, finished one of the major faction questlines rangers I think, finished all the quests on the oil rig cyberpunk planet, tons of other quests done, built a bunch of ships I liked, andcompleted some companion quests I think? I know I romanced one of the characters. If I can update the mods so I can use my saves that would be great but If I have to replay everything from scratch I’m not sure it’s worth it if the game hasn’t changed much.

They added a bunch of stuff but nothing that changes the basic functionality of the game. People who already liked Starfield were happy about all of it, but there's nothing to win over anyone else. The game has infinite potential in the hands of a non-lazy development team that is run by a competent company. Unfortunately, that does not exactly describe Bethesda/Microsoft. Tim Lamb promises big and exciting things though, so we'll see... in about 8 or 9 months when they finally announce something.

After almost 2 years I still re-organize and tweak my ships over and over again.
Take this for example I still hesitate between two variants

Slim build
>looks slim and nicer from all sides
>less space inside for habs
>landing bay must be in back
>either Deimos or Tayo landing bay
>Deimos habs on bottom look best so I would make all interior with Deimos

Fat build
>looks nice from front, top and back
>looks like shit from the bottom and the side
>the bottom section with the landing gear looks like some kind of sled
>landing bay facing front which is much nicer
>plenty of room inside, can fit everything I want

Starfield would have been so much better if it didn't stick with boring realism
>>

iirc todd said in an interview he loves diablo ass loot system
>>
>>541410784
>DLC early next year.
haha
>>
>>541434595
Probably because people kept complaining in Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim, that most placed had no worthwhile loot, so there was "no reason to explore them". The loot system they used in Fallout 4, and Starfield, ensures more consistent, on level, loot drops.
>>
>>541439457
No no no I meant the emphasis on the relying SOLELY on loot drops and the legendary affixes which feels tacked on compared the grounded feel of the game. I wouldn't mind it so much if we could do the Fallout 4 thing of upgradeable item level and mods not getting destroyed when you remove them

I said "Diablo" because as far as I know in those games you can't decide specific attributes of the weapon you're crafting, you have to rely on chance which is my problem
>>
>>541443485
The only thing you can't chose in Starfield is legendary effects, which is also true of Fallout 4.
>>
>>541443485
>f we could do the Fallout 4 thing of upgradeable item level
Weapons in Fallout 4 didn't have item level, and in Fallout 76 you just have to craft a totally new higher level version
>>
>>541443930
The goddamn not being able to upgrade the weapon the level tho :(
>>
>>541444110
The Receiver anon, upgrading them makes weapons viable for low all the way to high level characters

>craft a totally new higher level version
And we didn't even have this, yet they coopted the "can't loot all items from the NPC" thing
>>
>>541444373
>The Receiver anon, upgrading them makes weapons viable for low all the way to high level characters
Receiver is not level, and you can change that on guns in Starfield where it makes sense.

>And we didn't even have this
Doesn't make sense for Starfield's setting. Fallout only works due to its SCIENCE! based setting where everything is BS. Our character shouldn't be able to create some high tech gun like in Starfield's more grounded setting.

This would actually piss people off since like every other Bethesda DLC just lets you come and go as you please.
>Some murder mystery quest, find the girl/ alien whatever and return to family
People would call it out for just ripping off Far Harbor

>Its not hard
>lists things that everyone would hate.

I prefer Shattered Space overall. Far Harbor had a good story and the good ending forcing you to do side quests is a genius move. But I often found myself bored out of my mind doing the side quests and the location itself didn't seem very new. I've seen it before in Point Lookout. Shattered Space is completely new and alien. Even in TES they didn't have a place as mystical as Dazra. The soul carin pales in comparison.
>>

>Far Harbor didn't have a challenging environment

They already complain so this point is redundant.

Just like survival mode which stops fast travel. Only the normies hate it (or people like you)
>People would call it out for just ripping off Far Harbor
Far Harbor rips off Point Lookout. People got over it. Therefore, this point is redundant

>You haven't played it then
I put 30 hours into it. The only thing different about Far Harbor environment wise is the rad fog which does like 1 rad damage every few seconds if you have even the slightest amount of rad resist.
>They already complain so this point is redundant.
So what you're saying here is that they would still hate the DLC? Great point.
>Just like survival mode which stops fast travel. Only the normies hate it (or people like you)
The normies that make up like 90% of people playing games. Again, you said it was so easy to make a DLC people would like, yet turn around and suggest things people don't like.
>Far Harbor rips off Point Lookout. People got over it. Therefore, this point is redundant
People didn't though. One of the big complaints about Far Harbor was that it was just a Point Lookout ripoff, saying that was one of the weaker parts of the plot.

>Makes an argument that these changes would make people like it

It's a pretty common sentiment with many games that the lore accounts tends to be more interesting than the actual plot you get to experience 1st hand. I mean I'm sure many people wanted to experience TES' Alessian Slave Rebellion, or the Tales of Symphonia's Ancient Kharlan War. But then you have to question whether game developers will actually do it justice to adapt that lore into one you can experience, or will they outright fuck it up. Sometimes these things are better off being left to player imagination.
>>
>>541589128
It's a fresh take. If you want to live in the middle of an ongoing war you got many Bethesda games for that and they were still criticized for "shit writing"

A start to what? What exactly do you think switching to UE5 or Unity or Roblox would accomplish? It wouldn't get rid of the loading screens, those are a consequence of console limits and high interactivity. A new TES game would run like absolute shit on any engine if you tried to cram everything into one seamless area, unless you completely gutted interactivity in which case it'd run fine on gamebryo too.

Wouldn't fix the writing, animations, or combat either. They don't need a "better engine", they need higher standards.

I did however like that you could tell them all to fuck off at the end and get permanently banned from Dazra, which is what I did. And then have andreja freak out over it which was funny because she was the character the hunter killed in my first playthrough so this time around was supposed to be when my character could finish the romance with her. only to have it ruined because he couldn't tolerate her retarded culture.

True. In Starfield, he only wrote Crimson Fleet. I don't understand the demand for companions, they just make the game feel worse and more janky. Everything about the game is designed to be alone. At best you have a crew you leave with the ship.
>>
>>541722260
That's a matter of subjectivity really. Some people actually want to have a companion they can look at and listen to, and tons of modded Skyrim companions like Vilja and Sofia were made for this exact purpose. Just be glad that this is one of those games where you have the option to have people tag along or not.

Terran Armada is a ship parts pack that doubles down on the old-world cassette-future "nasapunk" style the game was going for. A cache of old ships is found and the player gets to take them over/build them themselves. The quest is short. Terran Armada is one of a few upcoming smaller dlc packs that add small amounts of content, but with added frequency. Starborn is the next major dlc, but it's a ways off while Bethesda switch to this new strategy

>every style other than starborn is already NASApunk
>NG already covers the old school subcategory
>make even older school pieces instead of Va'ruun or Trident habs
That's fucking stupid so I believe you.
>>
>Concord
Bethesda has one of those. No one is playing Redfall without it having to be pulled from the store.
>>
>>541725671
The idea is to flesh out the lore since that was one of the weakest parts of the base game. The old world ship parts have lore in their descriptions that refer to life on earth during the exodus. The idea is that while old, the pieces have boosted stats due to their need during that time. The ECS Constant will not be updated.

That was Arkane tbf. Bethesda just published the game for them.
>>
>>541727125
well there ya go
>>
>>541725298
We're talking about something being killed mid production, not a sales flop. Concord wasn't in any danger during its development, those idiots thought they were launching the next Star Wars.

They were begging Microsoft to cancel the game and it was development before they bought Bethesda
>>
>>541736104
Which entity was begging Microsoft to cancel the game? Bethesda has been a publisher ever since 2001 when they split into Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks. If they were obligated to publish it before the buyout they'd still need to do after.
>>
>>541739641
The studio itself. They were ordered to make a liveservice game after Prey flopped and most of the devs left when they heard about Redfall
>>
>>541739773
Wouldn't that be Zenimax's doing? They own Bethesda and Arkane.
>>
>>541744285
Zenimax or whoever their publisher was before Microsoft
>>
>>541749974
Zenimax forced Bethesda to maje FO 76 too and that derailed the studio for several years. Luckily the FO brand was strong enough for the devs to make the game into a success eventually.

I liked the style and hope they don't abandon it trying to chase the gay faggot market. Other than Owlcat's expanse rpg now there's basically zero hard(er) sci-fi in gaming. I hope they have the discipline to just execute better vs. trying to turn it into star wars.

there will be no new thread until you make it, nobody cares about this garbage
>>
>>541723768
It's probably the ship stuff they cut from the initial release and reserved in development for the DLCs. I do wonder if it will just be Nova Galactic expanded.
I do hope it's at least a bit better than the modded stuff already available.
>>
>>541723768
If you really have knowledge of Terran Armada, please let us know when it will be announced and released. Thank you.

There is no proof they cut anything of note in terms of ship stuff from the base release.
