This is my first silent hill game and I'm personally happy that it doesn't feel like a silent hill game at all. I really liked the story and background since it has me thinking about it constantly. A lot of people want to call this woke and gay but it really is the bare minimum of "I don't want to be told what to do as a woman and I don't want to marry some random weirdo". I personally didn't find it that hamfisted but it's also not very original at all. What's more interesting is the abuse she endured and the abusers imo. Overall breddy gud but I'm taking an extended break before I take on NG+ since it's a slog at the end and while not neccesarily scary it's heavy on the psyche

In NG this one ends with Hinako asking her mom to tell Shu she isn't home, that she is going out so she doesn't have to talk to them, in NG+ she has a whole conversation. I’m a big Silent Hill fan and have been for 2 years since the first one came out. I love this series so much so I was excited when they announced the new one but I’m really disappointed so far. It’s just not Silent Hill. Sure you have the fog and an abandoned town and characters acting weird and horrifying psychological monsters and gameplay based on evading those monsters and solving puzzles and using your map to navigate densely layered areas. But it just doesn’t feel like Silent Hill.

Where’s the cult? Where’s the blood and rust? What happened to Alessa and Harry and that entire storyline?Instead we have some guy looking for his wife. Like why do I care? What is all this boring psychological shit? I want scary cult stuff. That’s what Silent Hill is supposed to be. Really hope this was a one off and they go back to making real Silent Hill games after this.

NG+1 = your marriage was arranged to forgive your father's debts who was depressed due to no longer being able to pursue his fishing passion, Shu intentionally gave you addictive and dangerous drugs to make sure the wedding went wrong and you secretly wanted him to see you as a woman rather than as your aibou even though you've been rejecting a womanly role in 1960's Japan. There are also heavy hints that your marriage is not to another man with money but to a supernatural force who will grant prosperity in exchange for a human bride, and that Hinako's unique blood type has destined her for this marriage
It keeps giving you more and more as you play through the game. Its not all just notes, a whole lot is cutscenes which is why you get certain upgrades very early in NG+1, so you can run through the game quicker.

7/10. This game seriously ping pongs for me. The first 70% of the game is fucking ASS boring. Then the last 30% is insanely good. But the 30% wouldn't needs the build up from the 70% but I hate how aimless the whole "okay lets go find rinko, oh time to go to shus house, lets stop by the school, where's shu and rinko, i'll go to shus house" and so on and so on. nothing in the plot actually happens but it's just actual "filler" for the otherworld sections (which is also kinda ass) and setup for the last bit where you go back down the mountain from Shu's house.

I just really hate Dark Souls style storytelling, I mean at least it has gameplay. SHf doesn't really have the fun combat to back it up. I'm being serious. I like the original Silent Hill 2 a lot but it is way too easy. 1 and 3 are much more fun and interesting as actual games. The 2 remake fixed this issue for me:

>All of the original areas and scenes are kept (although sadly 1 or 2 of them aren't as effective as OG 2)
>So much content added that the length of the game is doubled, and it all feels natural
>Puzzles in the new areas are engaging and thought provoking

There are a few tracks that are remixed but a bunch are exactly the same. Most of the really iconic tracks are copy pasted from the original game. Unfortunately the song that plays in the cutscene with James talking to Mary at the end has been completely removed and replaced with something else.

All of the Mary/Maria scenes are unfortunately very underwhelming yes. The jail cell scene is the biggest offender when it comes to visuals but her voice acting in all of her scenes is just not good enough.

I really disagree on the music part. The music in remake is subdued, especially in important parts like you mentioned the song where James talks with Mary like how and why the hell was that removed? Another that springs to mind is when Blank Fairy is played when you're running around in the Hotel, yes it does play but I don't think the remixed version is better than the original and plus it stops playing way too soon unlike in the original where it plays the whole time. The music really elevates original SH2 so much so the amount they fucked with it in Remake was so disappointing for me. They tried to make it like how modern games use music.

Any fix for slight ghosting around moving objects on Silent Hill F? I tried all sorts of settings and motion blur OFF and DLSS Quality seems to look the best, with TSR and TAA having more ghosting, and FXAA just looking like ass overall.

This is so heartbreaking. I can tell Hinako is in a constant battle with herself, society, and afraid to make the wrong decision and to disappoint everyone involved.
I can assume the story is about Hinako, who is in a bride to be with Kotoyuki-san. Kotoyuki is in fact a descendant of the fox-God and is wanting Hinako as his bride (it is heavily influence by Japanese folklore), with the shrine settings and village
I can assume it's a tradition thing. I have a strong feeling that Hinako come to love and respects Kotoyuki-san, not because of his status but his kind heart and patience.

However, she also knew for a fact that Kotoyuki-san bears the immense burden from upholding his family status and torn of the arrange marriage because she has DEEP trauma from her parents about marriage, and how women mistreated constantly because society deems femininity to be 'submissive' of their husband. In the other hand, her childhood friend Shu never want to let Hinako marry without her own consent so he decide to give her the red/white pill to uncover what she truly wants (he really loves her). However it backfires in Ending 1 when Hinako is spiraling in her depression, taking so much pill and can't even separate truths/reality and snap. Her biggest fear is in fact to not have any say and stripped every passion, and desire she had for life just like her mother.

Her 'run' with Shu isn't the best decision too, because it's her lapse of judgment to 'leave everything behind' and stay in the past. She is hinted to love him as her bestfriend, and will forever trust and care for him but there's no indication beyond that and no future entails for both of them together. Albeit Shu loves her, I just can't imagine how in the world you give a dangerous drugs to the one you love?

The best ending would be Hinako facing reality, facing herself. She consider Kotoyuki's feeling, tell him her honest heart, and decide to let them BOTH think and deal with it TOGETHER.

Silent Hill F got me to watch Higurashi and the first arc was tense as fuck. It's still a rewatch for me since I've read the VN/Manga several times. I do feel the pacing issue but one big question I had is why the fuck would Mion and Rena restrain keiichi to pull a prank on him? He's obviously insanely unstable and their bright idea is "lol let's write something on his shirt?" Maybe it was a grounding exercise but it still seems a little goofy for them to do that.

Finished - good game, but when the masks are all peeled back the content is shockingly tame. Considering the monster design I thought Hinako and Sho had a teen pregnancy in the works, deepening my theory when Junko was insisting she "kill it" and that she was running out of time. Then when Junko mentioned she'd kill it for "his" sake, I wondered if Junko's husband had raped Hinako and knocked her up instead and Junko was more concerned with her husband's reputation than her sister

I guess my theories were way harsher than reality it felt gentler compared to the other stuff covered in other Silent Hills, they even recontexualized the father at the end to soften him. I played The Medium by Bloober Team. I did not like the game, but I really liked the protagonist. Her basic backstory, design, personality and voice acting is really good. I wish she was in a real survival horror game with combat and enemies and big levels to explore. The ending doesn't really leave room open for that kind of a sequel though.

Ngl they should've just cut the shit and shown what's actually happening in the wedding in NG+2. I hate the fact that to find important documents that help clearly state what's happening at the wedding. For example Hinako actually calling out Rinko during the wedding. (Probably not as extreme as her boss fight) actually did happen in accordance to her note. Too bad you had to BACKTRACK after dumping Rinko in lava in NG+2 to a section you'd never really thought to go back to. Sakuko probably did have also a similar melty where she got drunk and got mad at Hinako for "leaving" her.

I've been fascinated by the story and lore of Silent Hill f, and after studying the scenes and stories for a few days, I think I've come up with a general timeline/consensus of events. Please keep in mind that, while I have been going over playthroughs, lore discussions, and cutscenes to piece this together, I HAVE NOT played the game myself, so please take my take with a grain of salt (and if reading that has you click away altogether, I understand). If you're still with me, here we go.
Silent Hill f tells three concurrent stories of three versions of Hinako: Shimizu Hinako, Fox Hinako, and Bride Hinako (represented by the monster in the fog). The game itself does not take place in the present moment; everything after the opening cutscene is symbolic. I will be going through the three different storylines by their levels of mundanity.
The 'Real World' story, is the story of Bride Hinako. In this storyline, Shimizu Hinako is arranged to marry Tsuneki Kotoyuki in order to pay off her family's debts. Stressed over these events, she confides in her friend Shu, who gives her the red pills to try and manage her headaches. At the wedding, possibly due to a confrontation with her friend Rinko over Hinako's relationship with Shu (additionally, there's circumstantial evidence to suggest Shu commits suicide via hanging after Hinako leaves to marry Kotoyuki), the stress and abuse of the red pills trigger a psychotic break in Hinako and she goes on a violent rampage, slaughtering the guests. This storyline is represented by the Shiromuku monster in the fog: the monster's name is synonymous with "wedding dress," we see Hinako become more monstrous as she undergoes bridal preparations, the monster violently slaughters everything in its path in an expression of Hinako's rage and frustration, and the radio chatter in the bad ending reflects that the wedding murderer is "a woman in a wedding dress."

I’ll preface this by saying this is only my second Silent Hill game, my first being the remake from last year. I see a lot of hate but personally thought the game was good, didn’t think the combat was hard at all (I was on story tho) just a bit boring at times.
Basically I was confused on what was going on the entire game until the ending, but I feel like the ending answered most of my questions. I will say I haven’t played new game plus or seen the other endings yet which might negate my interpretation but this is how I saw it.
She was obviously struggling with addiction to drugs which lost her mind. To me, normal Hinako in the town was the part of her that was still her, but childlike and finding herself in a scary place just wanting to escape. Fox-arm Hinako was the drug induced side of her in the darkest parts of her mind, feeding into the addiction. The real Hinako was never shown, a woman in her twenties who was suffering.
Fox Mask was a personification of her addiction, taking pieces of her away. There were so many signs that say “don’t trust Fox mask, etc, etc”. She gave up her arm, her face, and got branded by the very drug just to stay with him. Every time she lost a piece of herself, it was excruciating but Fox Mask kept assuring her of the calm and peace that would follow.
I thought it was interesting that the game gave you pills to heal, but there were plenty of other natural supplements. But if you’re like me, instead of using those to heal, you offer them away for faith. I feel like that’s just the player giving up something that would have more benefits now for something better in the future.
You hear the police chatter through the radios all throughout the game, but it isn’t until the post credits that you realize that’s the real world leaking into her state of mind. Between the drugs, arranged marriage, growing up in a household of substance abuse, she’s just lost it and goes on this murder spree of the people who hurt her.

I hated it. Not because it's bad, because it's not, but because it's kinda mid. And there's nothing worse a work can be than mid. Because mid means it had the potential to be so fucking good. Hey people! I'm confused on something about the game. Just finished the first time (home to root), and I don't understand something about Hinako.

Is there two hinakos? Is it parallel world? Cuz in the end we fight the monster hinako and i really got confused there. I thought it was a dream, but in the end the "mortal" died and went to the other universe, while the other became the bride of the fox?

I'm playing Silent Hill f on Hard right now, just got to the second major boss. I'm not really sure what the point of the sanity meter is at this difficulty. If you can tolerate it, its good. I only watch horror anime with very few exceptions like Gurrenn Lagaan and Gunbuster, stuff that goes overwhelmingly and stupidly over the top and I thought it was great. But if you're more of an "anime fan" than a "I want to turn my brain off and have fun" kind of person I can understand the criticism.

TLDR of those updates is that it added current gen graphics features to RE7, RE2 and RE3 such as Ray Tracing. Three solutions for broken mods:

the qte invincibility frames in og re4 are fucking overpowered as hell; abusing them can lead to coasting through the game. shoot ganado in knee, run forward, use qte button, proceed to hit all enemies in the area and take zero damage. time when you're hopping over a fence or climbing a ladder or dropping off a roof, all give absurdly large amounts of iframes during which time any of your grenades you've dropped for instance will still hit enemies.
a go-to strat especially on professional is shoot knee, run in and qte, then knife the enemy while they're on the ground until they get up, repeat.
you can shoot/knife thrown weapons (axes for instance) out of the air
shotgun is best for stunning/knocking down enemies who get too close. chainsaw? shotgun in the head, give 'em a few knifes on the ground

shf is one of the most uninspired horrors from the last few years lol. Hasn't gripped me whatsoever so far. Bland characters, so far bland story (that can change), dog shit gameplay, dog shit puzzles.

I'm at the last part where you collect emblems, but one of them (the bottom one) is locked behind a door that needs its own emblem to open. How do I proceed? I got the other two.

No. All that matters for something to qualify as horror is the intent behind the themes those being to scare, disturb and/or disgust the audience which can be achieved through a variety of different ways subtle or unsubtle, visceral or psychological. It's not a stipulation that it has to do so successfully because it's impossible to meet everyone's expectations all the time, that's why it's recognized as a genre unto itself with a variety of different subgenres.

"Horror" is not a promise or guarantee that you won't be disappointed if you didn't get the thrill ride you expected and I feel this is one of the most common misconceptions surrounding the genre, the way some people treat the label as though it's some mark of quality that always guarantees them the exact experience they want and anything that doesn't provide them that flawlessly simply disqualifies by default. They don't treat it like an actual genre but more a very specific emotion, and some even expect this emotion to be maintained constantly throughout which it rarely ever will by design especially not if it's a genre hybrid. A label isn't going to spare you from disappointment that's just life.
