Deadass, it makes a lot of sense for them to drop official persistent servers when you're looking at the possibility of over a million or more simultaneous players across platforms. It's far more expensive, and has a lot of potential for failpoints and experiences. And yet they're still giving every player the opportunity to create their own persistent server to use as they wish, so you'll still have the niche stuff, like hardcore modes, or pistol/melee only servers, and support for community servers, which are now effectively platform agnostic, giving gaming communities even more reach.

Suits and casuals get a cost-efficient, pick-up and play access, and more dedicated power users get a whole toolkit to make the experiences they and their communities are looking for. It's as close to win-win as you can get.

Surely you don't believe EA has that degree of competence lmao. EOMM requires an incredible amount of data to operate on games of Battlefield's complexity and player count, and even more importantly, requires a degree of skill-based matchmaking, which just isn't viable under Battlefield's current design. The devs are literally on record stating they're not even gonna bother trying, with skill only coming into account during team assignment, but for EOMM to operate, you need to be able to put all 64 players into winning or losing situations based on the skill-based metrics, and then cater that to every single player for maximum engagement. At 32 players to a team, that's just straight-up not consistently viable. It's why EOMM-heavy games like Marvel Rivals, Overwatch, or Valorant focus on 6v6 or smaller. Shit, even SBMM starts falling apart after 8v8.

Now, this might obviously be different for the BR, but that's also effectively an entirely separate game, and thus will have different skill metrics, especially since the "team" size drops to 4. Battlefield 6 already has a FOMO generator in the form of its battlepass system. They don't need EOMM to push impulse buying because you're already constantly reminded of it every time you finish a round and see your progression through the pass. The no-life sweat whales will naturally show up in a game eventually wearing the new seasonal bling without having to lean on EOMM to do it, and since crossplay isn't optional, they don't even have to account for how many whales they have on each platform. I get the paranoia, I seriously do, but a game of Battlefield's scale is too statistically chaotic to reliably lean on matchmaking metrics for player retention. It really is just a logistical maneuver to compromise on overhead to player wants, otherwise they wouldn't bother making portal the way they are.

They've already said they have skill based matchmaking running under the hood but it's turned down so that the dispersion is wide by design. Also it's not impossible to spec out the matchmaking algo to look at your average performance and put you in with people who perform at X average above or below you to get an acceptable matchmaking result. Depends on how End of Life will go for 2042. They haven't shut it down yet, and I don't think they will any time soon, but EA does have a reasonable history of keeping Battlefields viable past past their support life. BF3 and BF4 both got in-application server browsers after battlelog was phased out, and it wouldn't surprise me if they released a server kit for 2042 to host servers when they shut down matchmaking and their in-house portal servers. Or it could get dropped like a dead weight because the new venture capital firms that are trying to buy EA out want a more immediate return on their investment. You never know.

Medic doesn't really matter in 6. Regen is incredibly fast so heals aren't important. Any class can revive squad members so revives are less important too. Reviving non squad members is good but respawning is so fast most people don't even bother waiting for revives.
In the older games the combo would be overpowered, but it's not a big deal in 6. I probably won't even bother bringing defibs on support. I know that sounds crazy, but in 6 it's not.

Difference is, you get like 150-200 kills per match in a tank if we're talking about the solo grind against bots on Breakthrough. Bots in Conquest are much more spread out and jets can't just stop in place and turkey shoot waves of soldiers like a tank can so their kills per minute is easily the lowest of all vehicle types. 60 is reasonable for a stock grind, nearly five fucking hundred is anything but.
