You know how there is a lot of complaining here about how VNs aren't translated anymore or they're not getting any new releases?Well there's actually another reason why VN companies have dropped the medium completely: they can't find translators who will translate their stuff and still get paid decently enough for it. Most of them are either scamming or they just refuse to do anything else besides lewd translations of older classics.Which makes me wonder: are there any VN fans here who could become full time translators if given a chance? Or are you people too lazy to learn Japanese and thus end up working regular jobs?
The reason why eroge is dead is because they're not making new stuff anymore. The old stuff is still there, but nobody cares because people keep saying how awful the VN industry has become since they stopped innovating. And yeah, they kinda did stop. There's no more VNs where the MC gets raped or killed by his enemies, there's no more VNs where the heroine is a total psycho or killer who kills people if she feels like it. You'd only find those kinds of things in older VNs, and now everything's been watered down to be safe for everyone. People complain about moege, but they never actually mention what they want instead of complaining. So yes, the medium as a whole is dying, because nobody wants to innovate. It's easier to just copy existing ideas over and over again rather than risk getting rejected by the market for something different.
