So from what I can tell, the story with Ren is as follows - Ren is some sort of reincarnation or manifestation of Mercurius, who is using Marie (presumably Antoinette?) to take control of Ren's body while he sleeps and harvest the souls necessary to build up Ren's power so he can fight the Obsidian Round Table. The ORT members we've met so far clearly treat Mercurius as some form of traitor, so either Reinhard and Mercurius have goals different to that of the lower-ranking ORT members or Reinhard somehow doesn't know of Mercurius's betrayal. Maybe the scene of them being gay was a flashback? This is all very confusing. I still have no clue what an Ahnenerbe is, either, besides being some kind of litmus test for Ren's growing power. Mercurius's ambition is to sever himself from his powers of foreknowledge, though I fail to see how that puts him in contention with the ORT. I don't know. Maybe I should just keep reading...
