Interesting races this week
>01/10 (Wen)
- Nihon Television Hai (JpnII, Funabashi, 20:05 JST):
Part of the Road to JBC series, the winner of this race will get priority slot for the JBC later this year. Forever Young is running against a relatively weak field, so it should be an easy win.
>05/10 (Sun)
- Mainichi Oukan (GII, Nakayama, 15:45 JST):
A prep race for the AkiTen or the Mile CM. Some of the runners are Satono Shining (the only three year-old in the race), Ho O Biscuits (a GIII winner who was second in last year's AkiTen), Cervinia (last year's double tiara winner), and Sixpence (the GII farmer).
- Kyoto Daishouten (GII, Kyoto, 15:30 JST):
Prep race for AkiTen, Elizabeth Hai, Japan Cup, and many other autumn GIs. You have Admire Terra (Meguro Kinen winner and last year Kikkasho's 3rd place), Durezza (a Dura spawn who won 2023 Kikkasho and placed second in 2024 Japan Cup), Boldog Hors (a cute), and Pradaria (should be retired already, but I guess miracle can happen).

>05/10 (Sun)
- Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (GI, Swamp, 23:05 IST):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NNSQ48KM_g
The impossible dream. Will this be the year that it finally comes home?
ALOHI ALII (3yr) – The Shining King. A member of Dura's last crop. The first Japanese winner of the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano (GII, Deauville), winning by three lengths.
BYZANTINE DREAM (4yr) – The Eastern Empire. A strong stayer and winner of the Prix Foy (GII, Longchamp) – the trial race for the Arc. As an Epipipipispawn, he might also carry Spe's hatred for the Franks.
CROIX DU NORD (3yr) – The face of the 25th gen. Winner of the Hopeless Stakes and the Nippon Derby back home, and also winner of the Prix du Prince d'Orange (GIII, Longchamp). A Kitaspawn ridden by Kitamura since his first race, the Genesis Method is favouring him.

I thought them watering the turf was just a meme. Do they actually water the turf pre-race just to get it soft?
>>
>>540919374
>Veliefendi – Istanbul
>During a race on July 31, 1949, four race horses, including two favourite horses, did not leave the starting gate upon the referee's start sign, and were disqualified. The bettors protested against a possible swindle by the referees and the racehorse owners, and demanded a rerun. As the referee commission rejected the demand, the crowd set the referee tower, the bleachers, the administration and box offices on fire.[12]
>In July 1953, bettors threw stones towards horsemen and beat a jockey named Muhacir Ahmet (literally: Ahmet The Immigrant) whom they believed to have swindled. Two years later local newspapers published news about swindles at Veliefendi Race Course, and during a race on July 13, 1955, the bettors stoned the administration building, and Muhacir Ahmet was beaten once again.[12]
Lmao. The Byzantine hippodrome spirit lives on.

https://www.paris-turf.com/archives/france/kesako-le-penetrometre-256901 - their general guideline says not to go under 3 on penetrometer. So if they feel like it will go under later during the race, they water the track to be safe even if it was soft.

I really do not understand why they went back on having scenarios specifically designed for different distances and have players alternate between them. All they have to do is update them from time to time. Conceptualizing, designing, and number crunching new scenarios every 4 months can not be healthy or sustainable for anyone.

I think you can reliably place, and even win, Group Bs with just generic cards. A is another story.
>>
How does 無二 work? Does it literally mean nobody in front of you, as in you're in first position or does a large gap between you and the horse in front of you count?
I hate the vague wording in this game. The jp text 前がひらけてる doesnt really help, and the datamined requirement (near_infront_count=0) is still vague as well.

That would be an option if it actually adds to the stud value but it doesn't, so... I know it will never happen but repeating myself from the last thread, they should create a standardized critieria that's uniformly applied for all internationally recognized listed races instead of leaving it to the national/regional pattern committees. Preferably something that uses an aggregate of the purse, avg rating of the horses, participant diversity and the visitor count. They are devaluing themselves with these meme listeds otherwise

checking Arc lineup & damn all of those europe horse is fucking sub-par ngl, not even a single powerhouse.
if japan cannot fucking win this (or at least couldn't even in top 3-5 placing), I don't know what to say it's either:
>their horse is fucking weak
>the way they're training horse is the problem
>muh wet track
if they can't even beat 2nd-3rd rate yuro horse & at their weakest, Japan should just give up on the Arc dream. it's too fucking biased for euro horse (but I know they wont anyway)

The current trend for dirt horses has been to make them extremely for (You), but the oldest and strongest dirter we have is also the designated loser in love.

Will Ebayan break romance records, or will Falko finally have competition?
>>
Do you guys feel sad when a Japanese horse has to retire from racing before they could fulfill their potential, despite having great pedigrees?

For example, I just learned that Veloce Oro ( ヴェローチェオロ ), a chestnut colt whose father is Gold Ship and mother is Precious Life, daughter of Taiki Shuttle, retired from racing on March 11, 2023 at the age of 5. Out of all of Taiki Shuttle's grandchildren, Veloce Oro was possibly the closest to resembling Taiki Shuttle. Shame that Veloce Oro could not have a great racing career like his father, Gold Ship, and grandfather Taiki Shuttle, and double shame that Veloce Oro is not currently breeding and passing on his beautiful chestnut genes to the next generation.

Definitely anon. godolphin wins more major races in 2025 than 2024, and their main rivals (Coolmore, Juddmonte, Shadwell) accept godolphin superiority, due to legendary sire line (even Coolmore retire early their horse from Dubawi line Delacroix). On another note, i wonder why japan still struggle to replicate another succesful horse from seeking the gold line (seeking the pearl failed to produce G1 races horse)?

But, at least Equinox and Kitasan got to enjoy mares at the end of their career. Meanwhile, I find it sad that plenty of male horses end up remaining virgins for their entire lives simply due to not winning enough races and despite their physical attractiveness and lack of genetic health issues. In the wild, opportunistic male horses have a 50 / 50 chance of impregnating any female horse they encounter which are far better odds than domesticated male race horses.

Unfortunately, some Japanese champion horses never got a chance to be stallions, even if they were fertile. A famous tragic example would be Delta Blues, the first Japanese horse to win the 2006 Melbourne Cup, yet despite such an achievement, he remained childless for the rest of his life. Delta Blues' owner, Sunday Racing, are truly cold blooded horse owners.

Pop Rock (ポップロック) (March 19, 2001 – June 26, 2025) is a Japanese retired racehorse and breeding stallion trained by Katsuhiko Sumii. Pop Rock is best known for having placed second in the 2006 Melbourne Cup, ridden by Damien Oliver. By the time the race was run, Pop Rock had effectively become joint favorite. It was Oliver's 17th time racing in the Melbourne Cup.

On his next start, he managed to get the closest to Deep Impact (who won the Japanese Triple Crown in 2005 and the Japan Cup in 2006) in the 2006 Group 1 Arima Kinen and was beaten to second by Admire Moon in the 2007 Japan Cup.

In 2010 Pop Rock was sold to new owners and was trained in Ireland by Takashi Kodama. He won on his European debut at Galway Racecourse in July 2010. His final race was the Irish St. Leger but he trailed the field and was then retired to stud.

Pop Rock (Helissio - Pops, Sunday Silence) died at the age of 24. Pop Rock began his breeding career in the Czech Republic in 2011, three years after the first Japanese-bred stallion in Czech history was introduced to the country Tiger Cafe (Sunday Silence). He spent the first two seasons as a leased stallion in Napajedla, then František Vocásek bought him and placed him in his stud in Němčice, where he remained until his death. At the beginning of his breeding career, he regularly covered around 15 mares, later interest in him declined and he mostly covered only mares of his owner and his collaborating owners.

Two of his offspring won the champion title. Primarily for his second place in the Carpathian Prize (L), Kalypso of Gracie was awarded the title of Champion Two-Year-Old Colt of the 2014 season in Slovakia, and 6 years later, Raviella won the title for the best hurdler there. It was mainly in jump races that we saw his offspring in recent years, the most successful of which included Apas Rocka, Alegoria and New Finch.

Ironic that despite losing to Delta Blues at the 2006 Melbourne Cup, Pop Rock had a happier life and even got to breed with Czech Republic mares and his descendants are now living in the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia. My only disappointment is that Pop Rock never got a chance to return back to his homeland of Japan in order to reunite with his Japanese fans. Now, I feel bad for Delta Blues who has no direct descendants despite being the 2006 Melbourne Cup winner. Maybe, he should have been shipped off to the Czech Republic, too.

I personally believe gelding is unethical because it feels like a cheap and lazy way for a horse owner to alter his horse's behavior instead of properly training his horse to be well behaved. Plenty of famous horses, especially Japanese horses, would be extinct right now if every horse owner was recommended by their horse trainer or veterinarian to geld their stallion for simply horsing around.

>As a young racehorse, Northern Dancer was known for being high-strung and difficult to handle. His trainer, Horatio Luro, even suggested that owner E. P. Taylor have him gelded (castrated) to make him more docile. However, Taylor refused. His conviction paid off when Northern Dancer matured and won the Kentucky Derby in a record setting performance in 1964. He later became one of the most successful and influential sires in the history of horse racing

>Joe Thomas, a former Lexington resident who managed Northern Dancer's stud career, recalled this episode to the Lexington Herald-Leader before he died in 1984.

>Like his sire and great sire, Nearctic and Nearco, Northern Dancer could be unruly.

>"He was feisty," Thomas said, "so Horatio Luro (his trainer) wanted to castrate him. He wasn't mean, but he would wheel and do some tricks."

>What saved him, and the course of the Thoroughbred breeding industry, was an inconsequential horse named Roman Flare. Windfields Farm owner E.P. Taylor had bought Roman Flare at Saratoga in 1961, and, as Thomas recalled, "he was a mean, willful horse."

>Luro convinced Taylor that if Roman Flare was gelded, it would calm his attitude and make him more manageable.

>"So we castrated him, but before he got back to the races," he acted up again and "bowed a tendon," Thomas said. Roman Flare ended his career in a $1,500 claiming race.

>When the question of castrating Northern Dancer came up, Taylor said, "It didn't work before, why do it now?"

>So Northern Dancer's stud career was saved.
>>
>>541137610
I am glad some American horse owners refuse gelding because Sunday Silence's father, Halo, would have been a prime candidate for gelding due to his violent nature, and had Halo been gelded, horses like Sunday Silence, Stay Gold, etc would not exist today.
>>
>>541137610
Too bad the type of people who would get into owing horses for racing are basically always the cynical number-must-go-up type to play it like a numbers game and not give a fuck which horses get gelded or basashi'd as long as they find the ones that make their big money into biggerer money
>>
Speaking of unruly and Sunday Silence. Despite his race record, why was he valued so low as stud at the time in his homeland again? I just find it funny. I saw in a Twitter post that he is apparently getting some commemorative thing in the USA. After shit talking him before, now they are celebrating his legacy kek

man, you don't hate Sunday enough, fuck Yoshidas

>Australian rail operator CFCL Australia named locomotive CF4401 after the horse

>>
>>541141701
Like people said, he had crooked legs, and cucked Easy Goer who was the "prestigeous bloodline". But I read a massive part was also that USA was stacked with super horses at the time that made them think they don't need Sunday Silence. At the time they were feeding all their top mares to Secretariat and Seattle Slew, and Easy Goer down the road. None of them had the success of Sunday Silence as a sire, but you could argue Sunday Silence was a better match for Japanese mares and wouldn't have the same success in the US.
>>
>>541154408
However, if you read the details of Easy Goer's autopsy, he ended up having worst genes than Sunday Silence since cancer was shockingly discovered in several of Easy Goer's organs. Had American breeders learned about Easy Goer's cancer diagnosis right after his retirement, nobody would have been willing to send any mares to Easy Goer because no breeder wants to introduce early cancer to their horse blood lines.
>>
>>541154408
So has there been an attempt for US to get Sunday Silence back, once they learned of his success?
>>
>>541155482
no, they probably wanted forty niner back more
>>
>>541155482
Sundayman has been ignored in the US for the longest time until the current decade, especially after the 2021 BC wins and Crown Pride's entry into KD in 2022. After Ebayan's (relatively successful) KD run, they couldn't run away from Sunday Silence's legacy anymore.
>>
>>541152767
Aren't they so autistic about it just because they kept on getting denied all these years? After all, there are now much more prestigious races compared to the Arc but they don't care as much since they already got some wins there. Is the obsession gonna calm down when they finally get at least one win? Or is the Arc-tism an immovable cultural thing now at this point?
>>
>>541157193
There are many races richer than the arc, but I think the nips still don’t have any wins in races that are arguably more prestigious than the arc. They still have 0 ICS, 0 King George Queen Elizabeth stakes, 0 Epsom derbies, 0 juddmonte international stakes, 0 BCC, 0 breeders turf, and 0 KD on top of my head
>>

>>541158736
It’s arguable. Arc has lost a lot of its prestige over the years. Don’t seem like the bongs care that much about the race anymore. IIRC the people at the arc themselves said they’re looking to reinvigorate the race but dunno what they could do other than offering more prize money. They flirted with the idea of allowing geldings in 2030 or some shit. It’s mostly the nips that make it seem like it’s the apex of turf horse racing
>>
>>541159312
What even is the "premier" turf race anymore then? America has hardly any, the Dubai races are still a gimmick despite the purses, and Britain can only get like 6 horses in a race because of protests
>>
>>541158673
According to some anons here, there are much more prestigious races now compared to the Arc since its prestige has declined over the years. Some of em mentioned Dubai Sheema iirc. But I guess someone's perception of prestige can also be subjective. Like probably someone thinks a bigger prize money is more prestigious than history.
>>
if it's not the most prestigious race then why has it been the most prevailing topic on this board for months
>>
>>541160028
Huh? I responded to whether the arc is the most prestigious and I said it’s arguable? I never said it’s not a premier race anymore. It’s definitely still a prestigious race but as which turfs the MOST prestigious you could make arguments for other races.
>>541160491
It’s subjective but to me besides prize money, history matters as well. Races like sheema lack the historical aspect for me
>>
>>541160491
of course the idea of prestige is subjective. My idea of prestige is purse+international diversity+how many of the top trainers and horses proactively schedule for the race. You could also say it is the active mindspace it occupies in the public consciousness. arc is only a side note for everyone except europeans and japs, and even they no longer send their best to it. and as I menioned it in another thread, BC and Sheema are the most prestigious by these parameters

>>
>>541175997
Yeah, and what happens when there's no nip horse in the roster?
>>
>>541176116
Why do you expect uma players in a uma thread to give a fuck about races with no nip horses? This isn't a keiba thread you know
>>
>>541175315
I like to imagine that Japan raiding all over Europe and the US has been putting eyes on the homeland as their prestige rises, so now the big orgs are putting their mark on Japan now.
>>
>>541176116
Like I said, people follow Japanese hors. If there's no nip hors then people would be way less likely to tune into a race. Doesn't help that, unlike with the nips, there's not a lot of outlet where you can get to know more about the horses themselves overseas.
>>541176525
That would be ideal. Most owners just go for Australia now for autumn races since the average purse is larger there, so it'd be great if Japan starts pulling in other countries again.
>>
>>541176116
If you've been here for a while and actually follow the thread, we've actually discuss dozens of international G1s without nips horse participation
>>
>>541176674
>since the average purse is larger there
Unless they suddenly increased the purses this year, no lmao. Aussie average prize money is half of the jap's (2024 blue book). I think it's that australia is simply more amenable to westerners and though the average purse is lower than japs, the more prestigious races they wouod be raiding are about as rich as the jap ones and are slightly more numerous.
>>
>>541176961
I must have misread, then. I remember reading that big Australian international races having way higher payout than the Japan Cup being one of the factor why there hasn't been that many invaders in recent years.

>Japan Cup is literally just 1 invitational race for a single distance (2400m), accompying horses have nowhere to run in
>stuck between the BC and HKIR, both invitationals with multiple G1s over different distances
>Japanese turf highly specialized at this point, tailored for Japanese horses

I wonder why
>>

That would be the everest (20 million usd to JC's 6 million), but again there is barely any overlap between those going to 1200m everest and 2400m JC. It's morely that horses who go for everest can also easily enter other shorter distance races with slightly lower prizes than average japan G1 while those aiming for JC really don't have many choices

>Entire racecourses are closing, and voices around says Ippodromo di San Siro of Milan is going to be sold, because you know, it is being used for anything but horseracing, a concert was held there this summer and it went really fucking bad
Why gamble on horses when you can gamble on gacha?

Oh wow, it's a real winning live stage.
>>
Here in Italy, horseracing is funded almost entirely by the state, for about 80%, the rest is from betters, which are constantly diminishing because the average better is a 60ish years old man who has better things to do with his money than go to a run down obsolete racecourse
The prize money is abysmal, since funds are constantly under attack by green parties, but Giorgia wants to preserve our prestigious heritage so its holding in there, having no international G1 here is also not helping
There are some groups that want to revive interest in this sport, i even contacted one of them to help but they responded with a highly pessimistic tone.
Yeah Its bleak

yeah but the attendees were assaulted by waves of mosquitoes, some even had to go to the hospital

Take a leaf out of SEA's playbook and get a bunch of fags to cosplay and go the course, lol. Well, seriously speaking, there's no saving the italian racing considering the horror tales I read about it (in demuro's interview I think)
