It would also be weird if they just gave him the suit as an outfit because it would be there the entire time. Alister's cards being war themed make them way easier to just swap out with another archetype, and his backstory was probably the most interesting out of any of Doma, having an actual personal connection with Kaiba unlike the rest of the rivals.

Like they're all living in the same town but on two different sides of it that talk to each other at times. Kaz contributed to concepts during the pre production period of shows like other anons said, but the bulk of the writing decisions and what details fill out everything episode-to-episode would be mostly from the head writer and the episode writer team helping the head writer.I don't have like any interview confirmation of this but imo unlike how other (much shorter) anime productions work, I think the directors of Yugioh anime had their hands quite full just on directing all the visual and animation parts of an anime and making sure the production isn't going to fall apart. Like supervising to make sure a character visually comes across as cool or powerful and the visual ideas of decks and duels, or giving opinions on which soundtracks to place in when they have an idea. Just those audiovisual parts are a lot of work to do since it's year round. So the head writer takes the lead on important story decisions and how main characters act and react. Yoshida had certain patterns to how he led his parts of the anime and how he did dialogues, for both the good and the bad, that can feel connected enough to seem like they stem from the same person
