I'm personally using the old Starcraft/Warcraft setup of skills on QWERTY and control groups on 1 through 0 and cycling through them with Tab. I think the true new player default has control groups on F1-F10 which I think is awful, which is why I'm bringing it up now as opposed to later. You can run a custom lobby or use demo mode to set control groups for summons (ctrl+key like other RTS games) and other shit and the game will save them for future games.
