Ever since Crossbell I feel like the casts have been very hit or miss and that is very true for Class VII. If you really like all of Class VII and buy Rean's characterization and struggles, you will probably enjoy this arc a lot. If you don't, I think you will think the writing quality got worse. I dunno...I still can't justify how long the arc. Especially because games like 2 and 4 have sections where all you're doing is saving Elise, Alfin and Towa, etc and that content felt like filler to me.

Western Erebonia has the beautiful city of Ordis and that's it. We never got to see annexed areas besides Crossbell. I am surprised we never go to Jurai. And since your party is always traveling with you, I think the places stick out less compared to Sky where each city had a party member or two join you, and Crossbell who had very different areas and feels for where you are. Armorica and Crossbell City have just two total distinct vibes. You could say Erebonia is more cohesive but it feels a little same-y. I also didn't like the capital very much, but could just be me.

It's got some awkward worldbuilding and some characters get basically forgotten as it goes on, but the story is a tonne of fun and the crazy shit with the mecha and the divine knights tickles me. Class 7 and NC7 are great parties, and I like the implementation of the bonding events a lot, though it does mean you'll have to repeat playthroughs or save scum to see everything.I think what helps it is that the games are pretty eventful, with Rean developing a lot across each title rather than remaining static in every game like Lloyd (I love Crossbell, but he is boring).On the gameplay side of things, it's also the most fun the series has ever been. Crafts and all the other bullshit they let you get up to feel great, the customization of quarts works really well, with the only obvious downside being that the games start to feel kinda easy as hell. This all culminates in Reveries, which is a fucking mad toy box of a game and might not be the best title in the series, but its one of the most fun. Valimar is best girl and I want to plow Musse.

You can sum it up by buffs and debuffs. Crossbell is the peak of Kiseki's combat because they actually paid attention when making a Nightmare mode and in turn it has the best designed fight in the series (Azure Demiourgos). Crossbell really shows how Sky's implementation of difficulty modes was bad and so while I prefer Crossbell, I'll take Cold Steel's combat every time compared to Sky's as it's simply more fun with all of the options it gives you.

If you play the fan translation for kai then go back to horizon 2 in the future you will notice a lot of different things about characters and writing styles that it will be jarring. Stick to a consistent style is my recommendation it will make you enjoy the arc more. If you still want to play the fan translation then dont worry its still good and is human edited except most npc convo but all main,side,grim garten, connect events, memento orbs are translated properly
