I'm a huge warhammer nerd who's been playing the tabletop for 15+ years but for some reason I could never get into the total war videogames. On paper it sounds like something I would absolutely love since I like hiring heros and giving them gear and trading and making alliances and stuff like that in games like Civ and Crusader Kings and some others like that. I guess it's the real time battles that I don't like, and I've had some really bad experiences with the auto-resolve system. I own all the games and all the dlc, and every year or so I redownload them all to give it another try because for every reason I should love these games, but then I play for a few hours and never launch it for another year. What brand of autism is this? What would you recommend for someone who loves the setting and loves narrative type stuff but the actual battles are kind of tedious.Perhaps a turn based mode would be cool. Make it like the tabletop where you move your unit blocks around the battlefield and they have turn radius and flanks/facings and then the other player or computer takes their turn and does the same thing. The tabletop has been a wonderful hobby for a long time for me, I would love if total war's battles were just a videogame adaptation of them. I think I would like that more.
