I could be wrong, but I feel like you can appreciate IX more if you "know the roots" of FF, as in have played the NES and SNES games. If you have played the preceding games, and you already said you like the fantasy setting of IX more, then go ahead and play IX. Really, you can play IX before VII anyway if you want to, it doesn't actually matter and you should try out whatever interests you. I hear good things about the Moguri mod, but I'm not much of a mods guy myself so I haven't tried it.

However, a lot of the other tracks in the game are either completely unremarkable, as in you couldn't even remember them if you tried to, or they are downright annoying. I have desired so many times to turn the music off, and yet I refrain because I need to experience the whole game even if San d'Oria or even Ru'Lude Gardens are themes that I never want to hear again, yet absolutely will. That's not even mentioning the fact that god damn half of the maps in the game (or more) have no music whatsoever. It's just some barely audible ambiance. Which makes the music situation doubly frustrating, because 10% of the tracks are something I want to listen to, 40% of the tracks are something that I find genuinely annoying, and 50% of the "tracks" in the game might as well be silence because it's just far off birds calling randomly or muted waves crashing against a beach. I really want to just turn the BGM off, but I wont allow myself to. I have never experienced a FF game where I actively want to turn the BGM off until XI.

It seems that, once again, someone posting their opinion about Final Fantasy has caused the usual suspect to begin shitposting about XIV, XVI, Yoshida, Soken, and/or the whole of CS3. For what it's worth, I am enjoying XI. I have a laundry list of negative things I could say about XI, and it is not friendly at all to anyone who attempts to play it and even something as simple as targeting an enemy rather than your Trusts, or targeting the enemy directly in front of you rather than the one off in left field is at times a monumental and insurmountable task, but I enjoy the way the story is told and I think that it benefits from its more "bare bones" nature. XIV tends to needlessly wax poetic about everything, to the detriment of the story. I also see what people mean when they say XI's cutscenes are better than XIV's. I don't think that's exactly 100% true in the way that I understood it. Like, 90% of the cutscenes are still just people stock emoting or doing battle animations at each other, and instead of your character doing the "hand over" emote in every cutscene, you're doing a "poke" emote, but the cinematography of the cutscenes is a lot more dynamic than in XIV. I think this creativity is a product of limitation and is something that nearly all games lost as "limitation" began to be less of a factor in game design. Limitation breeds creativity, and without limitation, things tend to be less creative. I originally thought (because people love posting the Lilisette cutscene) that they meant that XI's animation in the cutscenes is better. That's not the case. The quality of the animations between the two games is roughly the same, however as previously stated XI's cinematography is a lot more creative and dynamic than XIV's tends to be. I also love that shimmery, fadded, wobbling, blurry effect that they use a lot. I’m playing FFT and this is way worse than tactics ogre. Ramza kinda sucks. I’m 20 hours in and his voice still doesn’t stop quaking in every line. Tactucs: Ogre was much better - the characters actually committed atrocities and get changed by them. Ramza is still having his precious innocence abused and guilting himself for stuff he didn’t even do. Also way too many goofy names / places / things specific to the setting that are hard to keep track of. Both have the corny faux Elizabethan script, but Ogre has much better VAs. This could have been easily done by basing the "Finesse" rank you get at the end of fights on mixing combo strings and swapping weapons (the exact same way DMC works) however instead they had the incredible idea to base Finesse on how many blindside & linkstrikes you do (among a few other things) and all this does is encourage you to play through fights slower and fish for opportunities to get those bonuses to trigger. tl;dr: FFXV happens to feature a nice wealth of animations around fighting with different weapons, but the game itself fails to meaningfully highlight that work to players.
