Necromancy looks cozy. Which mod is that?
My Baldur's Gate 3 Tav was a half-orc necromancer that believed the solution to all the world's problems was to raise the dead to do all the working and fighting so the living could be spared. I'd love to do a RimWorld colony with a handful of living pawns supported by an army of mindless undead doing all the hard labor and combat.

Yeah, it's A Rimworld of Magic combined with The Profaned and [AP] Skeletons, Skeletons, Skeletons
Rimworld of Magic I use for generic necromancy spells for the necromancer, Aletta, herself
The Profaned gives you the Profaned and Profaned Cursebearer xenotypes, the latter of which is what Aletta is. Cursebearers can bestow the curse on a dead pawn to resurrect them, and then you can recruit them afterwards.
It also gives you access to several undead creatures you can create, including undead horses and undead dragons
Skeletons, Skeletons, Skeletons is for all of the rank and file skeletons. They're made by putting a corpse into a specialized casket which then revives them as a skeleton after a while. The skeletons don't have skill gain and hover around 5 at most of their skills, but you can arm and armor them like most other pawns.
So basically her lieutenants are bestowed the Profaned curse and those she deems unworthy are turned into simple skeletons or processed into soul gems to be turned into another undead creature.

I finally got back into Rimworld with a surprisingly performant and functional modlist. I forgot you need Progression: Core (which relies on VFW Tribals) to actually "age up" in Semi-Random research but it has a setting that gives you a random research option from above your tech level so I ended up being able to research spacer and ultratech stuff anyway.

The badly designed manor is in ruins, the storage is obliterated, there are over 600 corpses on the map, and I am not cleaning any of that. I'm done.
The Crimson Blood path added by MoeLotl Faction Expand got a decent amount of additions since I last played with it, which is great since it's really lacking compared to base MoeLotl stuff. There's an extra higher tier of weapons and apparel that consequently costs more, and though the visuals are great if not a little overdone, most of them are underwhelming or just straight up worse than the lower ones. The weapons in particular are inexcusable, they're genuinely slightly worse in almost every aspect despite costing more. Crimson Blood weapons are already weak compared to base Lotl weapons (which ends up surprisingly balanced to vanilla because they're way overtuned), and it makes the higher tier weapons even more disappointing. Unlike base Lotl melee weapons which now have a LotlQi mode just like the ranged ones, they don't have any extra gimmick and will struggle against mechs, which makes up most of the late game threat. They look great, but damn if it doesn't feel like I'm gimping myself by using them.
On the other hand, the skill additions are great. It's very easy to be self sufficient and make your own crimson pills past the first one because now you can just dismantle corpses into corroded flesh chunks with any demonized moelotl. It solidifies the "get powerful quickly and in great numbers" concept of the Crimson Blood path and it's now very easy to make a whole colony around it. Though I'm not sure if they actually did this one, the rebalance of the final skill doing significantly more damage to corpses per damage in return for a longer duration also makes it more usable as an offensive tool in combat rather than only for emergencies, letting you do insane tactics like killing three enemies and then going unga and DPS racing your way out of the whole encounter.

That said, the expansion still feels incomplete on the player side. It's devastating on the raider side, but the Vitality bar is almost completely useless to the player as it only triggers when the pawn dies, and all it does it make the pawn go on a mindless rampage until the Vitality bar runs out and then they die for real. You can technically do an ultra meme strat where you kidnap or breed lotl slaves, feed them crimson pills and just let them die and rampage on the battlefield, but unless you have the crazy difficulty setting toggled on, you can't even do that until you feed at least two crimson pills, and that's ridiculously costly for what is essentially a glorified walking bomb. I wish they made an alternate LotlQi form for the higher tier weapon where it consumes a certain amount of Vitality to do an enhanced attack, preferably something that works at least against high armored targets if not mechs.
All in all, it was a really fun playthrough. I know the Faction Expand mod was mainly made to make an enemy faction, but I'm glad it's fun to play as the Crimson Blood as well now. It just needs a bit more content for the player to match the base Lotl mod, especially because going the Blood path locks you out of most content from the base mod.

for some reason, the cerebrex core counts as having 0% durability, so it immediately goes into the smelter if you have any bill for destroying all tattered apparel. fortunately, it does not actually get destroyed in the process (it happened to me too) and just gets dropped nearby, forcing an infinite loop of colonist labour. apparently coding in an special condition for this one specific item is easier than fixing the 0% durability behaviour.

I'm actually the same. Unlike raising a jiangshi on the other Lotl submod, going down the crimson path actually doesn't require you to do bad things at all. The only bad thing you maybe need to do is ask for the cult to give you a single pill, that's enough to kickstart your entire group because you only need to hunt and dismantle animals into corroded flesh, and then create the pill just like normal Qi pills. Funny thing is, you don't even need to ask the cult for your first pill. The Crimson Blood Sect now actively, and VERY aggressively uses their skills on corpses. That means if you aggravate them and prepare tons of random fresh corpses on their way (say, aggravate them on the comms after a massive raid in the winter), they'll start dismantling them for you and you get tons of corroded chunks for free.
On this one I tried my best to be the "really shady group that's actually pretty nice when you get to know them and always gets the job done". The rapid healing from "eating" a corpse lets me be very aggressive in taking quests, so I took almost every quest and often took them for goodwill, I didn't ask the blood sect for pills but I also didn't denounce their ways until the final showdown because that would make me a hypocrite, I went to every peace talks and somehow allied with every non-permanently hostile faction, and it was really fun.
You probably didn't ask for any of that but I just really like talking about mods I had fun with, sorry.

Sounds like Tynan is a lazy, ignorant fuck, as usual. There are other disorders that do that. Nearsightedness is a deformity in the eye. It can be congenital or it can be caused by not getting enough UV light in the eye during childhood and adolescence, but in all cases it's a physical deformity of the eye that causes it. A genetic problem outside of the eye would be neurological. The closest thing I could think of would be some weird brain glitch that messed with the signals to the eye that tell it to focus on distant objects. Any other issue would affect ALL vision, not just near vs far vision.

Here's how I'd have played it:

>mark it for hunting

I'm 2,500+ hours in and I still sometimes turn the difficulty down to Community Builder when I'm not in the mood to fight off 4521345 tribals and a dozen mech clusters while trying to build a workshop.

Anon's biorats work fine in 1.6. I'm currently almost done butchering the mod to squeeze it in to work with Medieval Overhaul.
I also incorporated the expanded apparel mod (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3468042322&searchtext=ratkin+apparel) and the retexture mod (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3383002343) but I had to manually fix texture alignment on clothes I wanted to include by shifting all textures by about 20 pixels up.
Shit took some probably entirely pointless effort, as I had to rework the scenarios, reasearch defs, rebalance all the apparel and weapons, fuck with xenotype defs because I wanted to reduce ratkin subtypes to 2 from 6 and rework pawnkinds and faction defs. Oh and do a bunch of other fiddly things to make it work like I want it to work - most of which I forgot by now, but one example was adding a trait to enable natural meditations because Rat backstories default to artistic so I'm just gonna enable natural for them with Chara Editor.

I've lost pawns to meteorites landing on them.
I've had a rat turn manhunter in front of a turret just as my colony leader was passing between them, causing the turret to immediately turn, fire at the rat, and blow the brains out of the colony leader instead.
I've lost pawns after routine implant surgeries went wrong.

I've lost pawns while exploring an ancient complex because there happened to be 20+ bugs on the map in a nearby cave system and a revenant ambushed us upon landing and then went and hid in the caves behind the bugs, then a bunch of mechs woke up in the ancient complex and assaulted my pawns from behind while they were trying to fight their way through the bugs to kill the revenant to wake up the pawn it had put into a coma.

Things can get rough. This game is heavily inspired by another called Dwarf Fortress. The tagline of Dwarf Fortress is "Losing is Fun!"
If that's what you're after, RimWorld is great.
If it's not, RimWorld is still great because you can adjust the difficulty in dozens of ways and mods exist to adjust the difficulty in thousands of other ways.
If you don't like dealing with certain "Fun", like dry thunderstorms lighting the map on fire or all surgeries having at least a 1% chance of killing the patient, there are mods to fix that.
If you don't like dealing with the lesser examples of "fun", like limited storage space or inefficient heating and cooling, mods also exist to address that.
If you want MORE "Fun" you can also find plenty of mods that make the game harder in ways you specifically enjoy.

It just takes time to figure it all out. But it's a fun time.

There needs to be some mod framework everything depends on that automates the process of turning your mod into a pick and choose. Designate individual parts of your mod to be standalone pieces and have the framework provide a UI for selecting which ones you want. You could then even specify what to replace something with when it's disabled if applicable, for example you add an item that uses a new material, you can add both or add just the item and then its recipe gets replaced by vanilla resources. This would make it so that every mod could be "removed" mid playthrough as well since this would let it know what to replace stuff with if it gets disabled. You're not actually removing it from your modlist, you're just using the mod itself to disable parts of itself without breaking your save file. Would be a pretty elegant solution. Every mod would need to be rewritten to work with this but the benefits would pretty much be immediate.

I tested it. Moving the door doubled or even tripled the estimated prison break interval of the prisoners. They went from ~40-70 day intervals to ~120-160 day intervals just by reducing the number of doors in the prison. And now I don't have to worry about my kids or lifters getting jumped during prison breaks while they take food to the hoppers, either.

However, this did expose a weird issue:
My colonists eat from a nutrient paste dispenser with hoppers set to Critical.
Prisoners eat from a nutrient paste dispenser with hoppers set to Important.
For some reason, rather than refilling my colonists' hoppers with the shelves in their freezer, my haulers keep walking to the prison freezer and taking food from their hoppers, then another haul job is created to take food from my surplus shelves to the now-empty prison hoppers.

it's fine. the whole situation was a clusterfuck anyway... there was a tribute caravan outside, and i called in a bestowal ceremony. then raiders arrived, and the entire empire became hostile because the raiders killed one of the caravan pawns. i had to fight off both the bestowers inside and the caravan outside, plus the raiders. i had shut down my turrets in case they did some friendly fire. losing one pawn one ghoul and one slave wasn't the worst that could happen. lost about five limbs across the colony. coyote went down early but she was going to make it... but turns out she got high on smokeleaf before her bestowal ceremony.

Silkiera are pretty basic as a race but they have the most non-race content to work with. There's buildable shops, some meals and medicine, and an exchange booth that trades whatever garbage you're willing to give them for tickets, which can be redeemed for various things, including items to summon their improved subrace and EX race.

There's idearn and eveliet, which have really, really long research goals to create the races yourself. They're time and resource sinks intended for overpowered long term colonies, and even then I think they deserve some kind of balance patch, since they're not even that powerful for the amount of work it takes to get one.

Xenoorca have overpowered guns and a hostile spacer tech faction that will use them on you. Their EX race will eventually show up in those raids and is one of the more reasonable ones to fight and recruit. Qualeela are similarly scary but will only raid you after 5 years if you haven't befriended them by then.

Thanks for the rundown. Silkiera and Nearmare were the only mods from the series I've played with before, so I'm going to skip them this time. Trading wastepacks for tickets at the merchant was pretty funny and busted. I'll take a closer look at Idearn and Eveliet.

In exchange, the tax is waived and they provide protection for your settlement, as puny and useless as they look.
They are allowed to do whatever they please otherwise.

Way back when I was using the android mod to larp as a lone hermit in an icy mountain that slowly builds up an army of robots to take over the world.
