Some people have told me that my notes move too fast here (although one person actually told me they move too slow). I can slow them down, but it doesn't really make the game any easier, because the time between the notes is still exactly the same. It gives you more time between seeing them and having to press the buttons, but that's it. If I wanted to make it easier, the best way would probably be to remove some of the notes. Any thoughts here?

It probably is. The map in your video contain eighth notes and so it'd be about 5-6 out of 10 by DDR scale. It's not something a beginner can beat. Beatmaps in rhythm games typically come with 3-5 difficulties for a good reason.

I think these look solid, anon. Going low poly/low res makes it easier on you if you don't necessarily have the arts skills. Your animation on the little bug is really impressive.


I'm finally rigging this guy for real and I got his legs to bend *close enough* to how I was envisioning things. The rest pose isn't quite as dynamic as how I modeled him but it's all good.

Next up is adding in a bunch of bones for the pistons, fingers, and cockpit.

Working on adding a double jump to the game to help players hang in the air longer over floor hazards, but in the games style of being strange the player blinks up and spins really fast; if blue enemies attack the player during this they will die similar to the dash.

This will help playtesters who suck at timing their jumps. Not sure if I should let this advanced move be there at the start of the game or unlocked after the player beats a boss though.

It's hard to tell how difficult a game is when it's your own game. Guess I should've done more playtesting in the earlier stages.
But there are other ways I can make it easier. I can decrease the amount of damage you take when you miss a note, and I can increase the rate at which your health restores. I feel like the range of Y values where you can press the button and it registers as a hit is already pretty forgiving, but I'll mess around with the values and see what happens.

Added another new advanced move where if you hold down the dash button after landing a dash you continuously roll at a way faster speed than the normal roll/movement speed. Jumping, or stopping holding a direction returns you to normal speed.

They (godot devs) decided that embree (the ray caster source code - for physics collisions) is only allowed to use SSE2 and disable AVX etc, for some unknown reason. it uses cpu dispatch so always is compatible so why? godot devs just want godot to be very slow for everybody??? So when I make a CachyOS x86-64-v3 and a zenv4 build, it fails as it wants to use AVX but has been disabled. They even described it here https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues/91217 but NEVER FIXED IT!!!! I have to make a custom patch file:

Bokudev, you could try to play Captain Toad and on purpose play poorly or with poor reaction times, or view how low-skill players play Captain Toad. Maybe ask the same playtesters to play Captain Toad and record how they do. At least if you are going for the same market and groups of players as Captain Toad.
