>Kenshi 2 Announcement:
Soon (tm)

>What is Kenshi?
"A free-roaming squad based RPG. Focusing on open-ended sandbox gameplay features rather than a linear story."
"Be a trader, a thief, a rebel, a warlord, an adventurer, a farmer, a slave, or just food for the cannibals. Research new equipment and craft new gear."
https://store.steampowered.com/app/233860/Kenshi/
https://www.gog.com/game/kenshi
>Demo Link
https://lofigames.com/
>Tips for beginners
Learn to pick your fights, don't hesitate to run away and don't reload unless you die, any fight you survive makes you stronger. Building an outpost will attract trader caravans and hostile raids. Building one too early might be more than you can handle. Pressing F1 will open the tutorial screen. Mousing over the stats screen and HUD will reveal useful tooltips and additional info. If the enemies feel too difficult - get crossbows for your units. And don't be afraid of the RP autism - engage in it whenever you can. And do unlock the sliders.

If they're important slaves you could try re-enslaving them and freeing them again, or using a mod to recruit prisoners
Otherwise you accept some people don't survive.

>>542012979
Rescuing is not necessarily going to cleanly lead to an escaping slave AI. It depends on who the slave was plus what, if any, dialogue interactions you had with them. Being a slave, escaping slavery and becoming free are all separate AI package types. And it sounds like those NPCs are still "following" the enslaved package.

It feels like such a waste to not use some Meitou but it is a fact some weapons are ass no matter the stats.
>>
>>542031284
I only use the edge type weapons if i find them in ruins etc. I think the meitou ones are way too overpowered. They just crush everything once you get reasonable stats. I also deleted armour king, dude is a jerk honestly. Scraphouse only sells skeleton smith mk 1-3 in my game. you can tweak the enemy stats all you want but it just trains your units up faster/op quicker.

>Role, arms dealer, turned armor dealer
>Intelligence, master craftsman (non-P4)
>Crimes, aiding and abetting human-aligned rebels
>Formerly known as, Cross

>>

I'm fine with using samurai armor since my character is op, but the majority of npcs suffer major setbacks from armor.
>>
>>542047643
Samurai Armor is pretty much objectively the best and doesn't even lower your dex
>>
>>542038064
I view armour king as a end game boss, same with tinfist. (maybe i read armour king wrong & he isnt actually aligned with the skeleton final directives or whatever to destroy humans, also just my guess on that). I usually kill them all off too though. Even killing the great library skeleton in blackscratch. I kidnap Iyo, and usually heal the tech hunter pursuers after i ko them if possible.
>>
>>542038905
I always wondered why he was so close to blister hill. for some reason i would've guessed cross was a human female b/c the description "a legendary master smith, of whom nothing is known except his (...her?) name from the blade inscriptions: "Cross". " & b/c they are so limited, i view it as someones lifes work & mastery b4 they passed i guess. Idk just my first thoughts reading it anyway
>>
>>542050668
I'm obviously just guessing, but, I take that Gatwood the Soft has a major ideological impact upon the Skeleton dissidents, as like Armour King explains via the mental disease. The traitors were not explicitly going to war with Cat-Lon - they were "siding with the humans" and thus "had to thrall them all".

What does that look like? Tinfist refusing to use violence against humans. Armour King (Cross) swearing off weaponry production, in favor of defensive-only armor. Perhaps Skeletons under the Head of Agriculture let the grid complex fail - or maybe they destroyed it to dis-empower the regime. Iyo's empire of whispers and obfuscations abide by the "hands off" approach essentially all Skeletons (minus certain southeastern denizens) abide by. Force politics were abandoned in favor of guidance from the shadows.

"emotions" and "hysterics" are two different words, female. No-one on Kenshi feels anything, from sadness to joy. There is no shame nor pride on the faces of Kenshians. All because Chris couldn't ass himself to love his own "magnum opus".

No, Kenshi 2 is a case of too many chefs and a vision captured by business interest. Kenshi 1 was the honest result of the passion project. It is now a profit-driven project meant to capitalize upon the cult fanbase of the first game. If they truly cared they would be polishing Kenshi 1.

Okay, Debbie Downer, jk. I’d just expect the usual. Either microtransactions, passes, or paid cosmetics like a ‘Hiver bundle’ or locked map areas. If that happens, I’ll trash it. Until then, we don’t know what to expect. Honestly, it’d be a miracle if a modern game launched without some kind of BS, but i think games leaning on it will start flopping in this climate. You can only run a scam so long b4 players see through the snake oil. I hope kenshi ii is good
>>
>>542083124
It has been seven years. If anything my concerns come from how well I think Kenshi 1 turned out in spite of its limitations. Here's where things stand:
>no vertical slice as of yet
>no in-engine glimpse beyond brief snippets
>little in the way of confirmed systems...we don't know if any semblance of a mount, vehicle and boat system working as of yet
>no insight about what improvements to the modkit has seen or what more will be possible
>no Steam store page raising suspicions of Epic exclusivity upon release
>UE5 (going on 6), which has been continually panned by players as being a performance minefield and hardware hungry, so you might want to check your specs before purchasing shiny new 4K multi-core Kenshi
I hope it's going well too. Unfortunately, we don't have much to work with beyond hope.

hive workers are for labour and farming
skeletons are for crossbows and robotics
>>
>>542119547
on this note, the only races i bother to put at doing their dedicated job is scorchlanders at the smithy and worker drones at the mines/farms (because they apparently like it?) and sheks just go into expeditions because they don't like to work, good given we need the manpower to carry loot

I think smithing is the only thing that's both grindy enough and actually matters enough for racial exp bonuses to be considered. Most base tasks are more about just keeping a body there as you improve the equipment. Most combat skill penalties are sort of self correcting unless you're doing weird psycho grindy shit like putting amputees in beds.

Its annoying to me that the deadlands & certain mountain regions dont have any wind. Admittedly i've never used generators b4 though, i should try sometime to see if its decent but just seems like more unnecessary management to deal with.

>>
>>542167081
Berserkers can't have towns, they go berserk and break shit.
>>
>>542167690
it could've been a ruined city left by the pirates or whatever. That region is simply too pretty to be totally useless.
>>
>>542171335
Here's what I came up with
>embrace the name, create a small population of Berserkers which inhabit the largely barren region
>add some wildlife in the forms of mostly bulls
>frame it as the Western Hive inserting itself along the shoreline some time ago, taking over what was formerly a part of the broader Shek tribal domains, splitting off a group of traditionalists who survive in a diminished capacity in the north, as like their outcasted brethren in the south who have no place in the Kingdom's holdings
>the tribals adhere more closely to a kind of shamanistic big-man style of organization, ramping up the xenophobic & aggressive tendencies whilst discarding much of the civilizing touch the Kralist reforms introduced
>these Shek are faced with a far more dangerous neighborhood due to being hemmed in by the wild Shriekers, wandering Cannibals and unmoving blob of Hivers whether it's the Hive itself to the south or masses of Fogmen to the east. No friend is found in the Esata regime either.
>for some setup, the main food source (the Bull herds) are hit with a wave of wasting disease, causing the northern Berserkers to become increasingly desperate in their rituals and resort to lashing out at their neighbors
>>
regions that dissapointed me (moreso than the rest because they're wasted potential):
>the pits east: nothing of relevance over here, too out of the way
>none: literally nothing
>the black desert (region): confusing, and the ninjas over there don't even wear proper gear to deal with the acid rain and the toxic gas, nothing noteworthy other than the brap clouds that wander around, this could be an extension of the deadlands and i wouldn't even notice, specially since the black desert city isn't even in the black desert city
>berserker country: wasted potential, could put atleast some ruined settlements to work as outpost for the shek if you rebuild, but we god absolutely nothing
>shrieking forest: the shrieking bandits feel too LULZ RANDOMZ XD for me, maybe if they had expanded lore or some form of explanation behind why they are as they are, otherwise it feels like it turns a very pretty region into a minefield that isn't even worth passing by
>dreg: if it only had like 50% arid/swamp fertility, i guess that explains why the holy nation never tried to take it, but otherwise it turns a very expansive chunk of the map into a dead region with only a fistfull of hive huts sandwiched between more interesting areas
>shem: while it is nice as free real estate, you'd think that such a calm region would be more heavily populated, even one big/medium settlement would have been enough
>burning forest: a pretty region of the map that feels like an artificial roadblock, maybe if it and shem/flats lagoon swapped places i'd believe it, but why is there a forest (and one of the only true forests around there at that) that has acid rain every other day on it? even without getting rid of the acid, there's nothing noteworthy there, it's decent to settle down at if you're playing hivers or skeletons but you may as well just settle in shem for convenience or high bonefields for catun's proximity
the rest of regions at least got a bit of something going on for them, imo

How does one do a pure Holy Nations Citizen run anyway? Besides their laws and rules

>Medium First Aid kits only
>A town without anyone selling first aid kits...
>Not suppose to use Ancient Science Books

Okran told you in a dream you should follow the first rich idiot to walk into town no matter what heresy he wants you to take part in.
>>
>>542184459
Idk, I tried it a few times, kinda got stale not using tech beyond lights and other stuff like robot limbs. Once you get enough rep with HN they dont care about robot limbs anymore & other "unholy" stuff though. So i guess you have to pretend you are using evil for a holy purpose or something. Idk

Should've made some type wooden HN allowed prosthetic limb maybe, but theres no way to really do this.
>>
>>542192394
Yeah, they should have had crutches or wheelchairs (lol) or something.
>>
>>542175093
Where I settle a base usually has much more to do with what events I want to see rather than how good they are for farming or whatever. If you're really desperate you can hold off until you get hydroponics through researching in town, but missing out one of the major factions interacting with you actually feels like you're losing a lot to me.

Destroying Mongrel seems kind of pointless if you can't also stop or at least decrease fogmen spawns with any world state changes. All those guys can really manage to do is keep a few outcasts alive and in doing so thin the fugmen's numbers slightly

yeah, but if we go by canon mongrel is a pit of outlaws and ex-okranites, i can see them trying to bring it down if they have nothing better to do

>wooden HN allowed prosthetic limb maybe,
That, and they should just use the limbless veterans as respected CCTV cameras stationed on chairs across the cities, outposts, holy mines, etc. Bonus thatch umbrellas over their heads, to keep them nice and comfy.

Would make stealing from the HN difficult since there are always some sitting one legged or legless Holy watchmen that would blow a whistle if they see a thief. But thinking this deep would go against the Nat's narrative of "the Holy Nation is evil! Player, you must hate the Holy Nation!", so Chris didn't do shit. Spineless cvck of a brother.
>>
>>542256950
It has been shown in recent times that both the FCS.def and .dll injection is possible. Admittedly, I don't know the mechanics of how it was done but I figure when we talk about creating a secondary limb category...it might be feasible. RE_Kenshi has some code I'm going to look over which might provide an opportunity to start introducing maybe not quite "new gameplay" but perhaps new features within existing system, i.e., alternative limb classifications, properly identifying inventory contents, performing item exchanges and creating arbitrary / custom dialogue and world state triggers.

There are so many small changes which could be made to the existing game that would enable serious improvements in the overall immersion and interactivity, in humble opinion.
>>
>>542256950
yeah, also maybe honourable discharge, pension, tax exemption, holy servants, land grant & increase in social standing.

I think all kenshi factions are sort of evil personally, but thats just my view.

>There are so many small changes which could be made to the existing game that would enable serious improvements in the overall immersion and interactivity, in humble opinion.
if only we could automate trade and make redundant crafting recipes/recipes that ask for more than two items...
>>
>>542262824
Even the anti slavers are willing to drag an entire civilization into poverty and famine to accomplish their goals.
>>
>>542262824
>I think all kenshi factions are sort of evil personally, but thats just my view.
They all clearly are. The only ones that seem close to objectively good (or are simply reacting to being on the shit end of some larger morally questionable faction) lack any plan, so would likely be just as destructive anyway.
I kind of interpret the setting to be a time of misery where (you) can emerge as a potential starting point for a new society. The game shows the world as a place that has constant cycles of advanced societies rising and falling, so you're there to finish off the warped remains of the last one and start a new rise
>>
>>542262824
Moral ambiguity is the rule of the day. No faction is without flaw. It's a moral value judgement across the board
>The Holy Nation is exceptionally xenopohic and extremist in their zealotry, though they may be the best available option for sustaining and reforming a future incarnation of human communities
>The United Cities (and Traders Guild) are a different kind of moral hazard, embracing a more pragmatic and ruthless means to an ends approach to achieving their goals, which upon inspection are akin to a kind of greater good and stabilization of society...under their rule
>Tinfist and his Anti-Slavers brandish noble ideals in the form of liberation and self-determination, yet their actions lead to widespread destruction and setting an oppressed population into an arguably even more vulnerable position
>This discounts for many potential factors such as the disagreements with the Rebel Farmers, rising tide of nearby Reavers, the marauding Crab Raiders, the bandits which exist (Blood Raiders, Sand Ninjas) and those which may emerge during the chaos, let alone *what* is Tinfist's plan once the Holy Nation becomes aware of his efforts?
The Shek Kingdom, Flotsam Ninjas, southern enclave of the empire and of course the Hives (especially the South in Tinfist's case) all play some role in this...which he seems to disregard. Interesting. Side note:

My theory goes that Iyo's empire of whispers "enlisted" Tinfist to destabilize and destroy the breakaway civilization growing in Heng. If the Holy Nation falls under empire control the hidden hand of Skeleton guidance will, in time, become overshadowed by the merchant-nobility and their ability to control the narrative. Technological ascendancy is gated by the Machnists, though only if no faction can organize and industrialize in earnest.
>>
>>542268517
All else aside, I really don't have much negative to say about the crab raiders.
But while I doubt there's a secret agenda to it, I think Tinfist is just cut from the same cloth of all those other named Ashlands skeletons though. He just doesn't really understand humans and how they will react to things, and will likely get a shit ton of them killed in the process of figuring it out (likely causing them to turn on him at some point). Basically I think skeletons fall into two groups: dangerous retards, and ones that have learned to stay away from leadership positions for groups of non-skeletons
>>
>>542269948
Right, that's sort of what I was leaving on the table. Tinfist, Iyo, the Librarian, Quin, Dack, Armour King - these Skeletons are operating with what could be called a kind of maligned benevolence. I'm sure at some level they consciously believe what they're doing is helpful and worthwhile. Elder lays out the contradiction by showing us what real, intentional "evil" looks like. Thus why I was a little careful to even use the word enlist and imply an overt connection. Though it could exist, as per how two geographically distant individuals (Iyo and the Librarian) share in a code of silence. Likewise, the Librarian has relative proximity to Tinfist. It's never stated so we don't know - but the enmity directed solely towards the Guild while ignoring the Okranites is...strange, no? What about the Reavers? It seems his actions have some amount of specific direction behind them. Just saying.
>>
>>542273531
>ignoring the Okranites is...strange, no?
it is, but i considered Tinfist might possibly think they are already thoroughly driven towards a path of self destruction. Shek are too but this is delayed by ppl like Bayan for the time being, though probably wont last long. Meanwhile the traders guild is being propped up by slavery despite its other failings & will continue that way for the foreseeable future despite peasants starving etc. All guesses here, but kinda wonder if skeletons basically nudged each group into suicidal/detrimental paths though.
>>
>>542273531
I don't see anything wrong with the merchant skeletons that keep to themselves or just have a respectable distance from any real position of authority. Armor king isn't mass producing masterwork armor for anyone, and is really just some kooky luxury market stall at the end of the day (even if there's a lot of weirdness and mystery to him). The librarian at least appears to have a pretty neutral outlook and just sells goods, though he's certainly in a position where he could do some sketchy shit.
And I consider any skeleton in deadlands to be minding their own business really. There's kind of an asterisk there for how that place became an ecological dead zone, but that's pretty deep into "who the fuck knows" territory.
Iyo is definitely sketch though. It could be anything from secretly guiding Okranites to allowing World's End to exist by doing favors for the Holy Nation's powerful or anything else.
As for the Reavers I think they're kind of interesting. They're like the sort of faction you would normally see in a world like Kenshi instead of all the goofball shit. I always assumed they were meant to be a sort of hybrid of the pragmatic parts of the Holy Nation and Shek Kingdom without any of the charm. Sort of like a glimpse into a worst outcome of the two factions warring with each other
>>
>>542276378
I just wish the reaver armor wasn't actual hot garbage because man, I like the shape of the top but those stats are straight up a debuff.
>>
>>542275802
I classify the Guild as a breakaway civilization because I believe the old status quo, which included for the balance of powers between the bickering Shek, Okranites and Imperials, has broken down since the Red Rebellion. What is unfolding on the modern stage is a kind of break from the gatekept progress the previous stagnant order of things imposed. The Skeletons who do "care" see what is happening in the empire as a kind of existential shock, in line with what Cat-Lon states, such that the growth and success of the Traders Guild and its totalitarian methods would be a prophecy come true that mankind left to their own devices will rise to hegemony in a most horrible fashion, and once achieved, it would only be a matter of time before their own insidious nature gets the best of them.
>>
>>542276580
For base defense I doubt it matters much that they have no harpoon defense outside of friendly fire. I've never really looked closely at their other stats, but aren't they pretty in line with other stuff in their weight category otherwise?
>>
>>542276378
>I don't see anything wrong with the merchant skeletons that keep to themselves or just have a respectable distance from any real position of authority.
There's a moral prerogative which lands upon Skeletons laps, one we know in an altered context
>Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it
The responsibility to arbitrate the course of human development, whether sought or unsought, has been and still is tampered with by Skeleton influence. Be it by lies of obfuscation (stopping dialogue short, destroying the Obedience books, refusing to elaborate yet mention topics like boats) or over-protective tendencies, there is a murky code of silence that both NPC and player Skeletons share which has decidedly chosen to obscure a real view of history from the rest. The wisdom of this is at best, questionable. Do you really trust those who the Okranites claim are most responsible for the destruction of civilization... now whitewashing it of their responsibility?
>>
>an actual discussion on /keng/

Huh...
>>
>>542277282
>but aren't they pretty in line with other stuff in their weight category otherwise?
No, even ignoring harpoon resistance it's got shit defense and awful debuffs
>>
>>542277675
Especially the crossbow debuffs considering it's worn by reaver crossbowmen.
>>
>>542277318
I guess I'm just coming from a very different angle on that. I think whenever skeletons try and guide the direction of history it just always goes horribly wrong. If they just focus on a craft or keep to themselves and let humans work their shit out on their own it would be for the best.
Now if Armor King painstaking started looking for people he thought would "change the world" in a way he liked and gave them free masterwork samurai armor, or the librarian specifically decided that he wants humanity to work its way down some specific tech tree, then they're back to just repeating the same mistakes all over again. I'm mostly drawing this theme from the CPU descriptions in the ashlands, since they pretty much all do that "good intentions, but couldn't handle people" angle. I just don't think skeletons are fundamentally up to the task of guiding humanity (and in fact were probably never meant to as that's not what people usually make robots for).
>>
>>542277970
We're pretty much in agreement, though it's framed as a divergence, I trace back to the theme of "maligned benevolence". Skeletons are mired by a history of failure and collapse. Many have given up - some still try. The best laid plans of men and machines often tend to go awry.

Apples do not bleed red like blood. The liquid from a puncture looks like clear cider. You may make a guess as to how cider is obtained. We have no evidence of apples within the setting whatsoever - this could and should have been a greenfruit. The force of the bolt would surely knock the apple from the hiver's head, as it does in the classic tales of William Tell and others that the image clearly draws inspiration from, yet here it does not and simply embeds itself in place in a static and unnatural manner. A poor artist's ignorant flouting of kinetics, inertia and worldbuilding. But look, it's Beep! We all love Beep, don't we? Don't ask questions, just Beep. Epic Beep Time for the win. Fuck you.

without drawing too much comparison to real life scenarios because that's how you get these threads purged, it reminds me about how sometimes released slaves would then go on to use what they learnt from their masters and enslave other groups, repeating the errors of their captors

imagine if you came back to feudal whatever point in history and gave them the technology for electricity, motors and gunpowder, if you ascend a population without letting it develop culturally first there's a high chance they're not gonna learn how to use their newly found powers properly, it happened with nukes, that thing is like giving tech 12 weapons to a tech 8 nation and now we got enough of them to destroy the planet if we wanted to, to a lesser degree, when robots that have a very high chance of remembering a pre-collapse society (at the very least 2nd empire) you can imagine how sharing their knowledge with the collection of city states sunken into slavery, the xenophobic zealots and the illiterate almost-warmongers would be a problem, skeletons can't guide civilization because the human condition doesn't let be ready for it, any time skeletons try to (moreso now that they can't replicate themselves and will slowly die out, unless that spider factory can be retrofitted to make skeletons) when problems arise they start to break up as they can't continue to satisfy the needs of the people, didn't help that they had like eleven almost end of the world things going on down their territory, and that catlon had gone canonically insane from never resetting, wich is not like he couldn't do given that he needed his knowledge to guide themselves out of this one...until you-know-what

still, i believe skeletons are just like their creators, some are good, some are misguided, and a tiny fraction and straight up evil but they have enough influence to affect the whole of their image, most keep it to themselves nowadays atleast, and they seem friendly to humans (see black desert)

In Kenshi, I can use any units to "win" the game because the game is easy.

In gachas, I am supposed to use specific characters for specific bosses (and the gacha games never say openly and plainly and noticeably which units do I need to use in which exact boss battle). This is retaded, and it must be changed.
