Common Bat editionDominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher. The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.>Our pastebin (extremely outdated)https://pastebin.com/wjbSA98Y>Steamgrouphttps://steamcommunity.com/groups/vanheimageofvidya>Multiplayer guide>Blitzserver (game hosting service)https://blitzserver.net(Dom 6)https://beta.blitzserver.net/games>Llamaserver:https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1212948582>Documentationhttps://illwinter.com/dom6/docs.html>Tools>Mod inspectorhttps://larzm42.github.io/dom6inspector/>Wikihttps://illwiki.com/>Pretender calculatorhttps://zollqir.github.io/pretenders-dom6/https://caleb-distributive.github.io/pretenders-dom6/ (website down?)>Debug modhttps://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3083231618>Communion fatigue calculator (still dom5)https://instacalc.com/53495>Automatically prevent starts in all provinces with less than X connections (still dom5)https://nixx.is-fantabulo.us/dom5ranmapnos/>How do I change the fonts?Replace guifont.ttf, guifont_fancy.ttf and guifont_texty.ttf in the game's 'data' folder (C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Dominions6\data)>Fan arthttps://thronebooru.booru.orgPrevious Turn of the Wheel:>>541210674

>>542146817army mobility scales well, is my guess. if you are the most powerful player in a game, or at least among your neighbours, and can beat any without much attrition, but your armies are mapmove 8, it might be more difficult to capitalize on that power and snowball into victory. flying armies tend to suffer much less from that. elves tend to also have good mapmove, and can do something similar some of the time
>>542146817>>542151343ma caelum is also the only nation in the game with a3 mages in all forts. ragha has them as well, but they are coldrecruit. and ma caelum also has a2 mages in all forts. flying a3 mages with mapmove 22 in all forts, with coldres and shockres, should also scale very well. one drawback is slowrecruit

>>542162604>OccasionallyI thought it also pulls from the official Illwinter servers so as long as it's "tracked" by envoy, I remember reading that it includes Clockwork Hounds games as well as those by people playing on the official server. If anything what makes the data bad is that not every single game tracked makes it to the winrates.I'm aware that this also may track modded games but tbdesu, I think most anons would confirm that for EA this gives a somewhat rough assessment of how the nations compare to each other in terms of which can be seen stronger (Makes sense to me Muspelheim has such a huge WR).If I'm wrong, please feel free to show proof that there's quite a lot of SCBM wins for some nations, I suppose you are able to do so based on the way you formatted your post.>>542163627It does not track every single game in existence, I simply posted it as a quick and dirty way to make the guy crying over helmets to shut the fuck up, imagine trying to force others to fit your needs knowing full well the rest accepted to play vanilla as is. It's why I also wrote (and you can read on the top of the page) "take it with a grain of salt"
>>542164223>If I'm wrong, please feel free to show proof that there's quite a lot of SCBM wins for some nations, I suppose you are able to do so based on the way you formatted your post.it's an open questionyou are asserting that few (or none) of those wins were in modded games. But my argument didn't even hinge on that. Without accounting for game size and relative skill of players, your data is virtually meaningless.Case in point, there was a player back in dom4 or dom5 who was obsessed with playing scales Hinnom. 0% winrate. Astronomical number of games with them. Massive skewing of the numbers
>>542166084Why in G-d's name would you main Hinnom

For the disciple game, do I make a disciple or a pretender god? Since Therdos is already team 1?
>>542239298Depends, do you want to dictate your team's bless & scales or do you not care?
>>542239298Isn't Therodos disciple material?
>>542239298whatever you like. you can make a pretender and create a new team. you can make a disciple and join an existing team. or you can make a disciple and join a team without a pretender and wait for someone else to lead that team.when you connect to the game you can click "pretender" / "disciple" to switch between disciple or pretender for that nation and you can click "---" to switch between teams.you can also make a pretender and play solo without anyone else in your team if you want.

Who had the best dream today? I will start: NekoArc was living in Power Puff Girl’s Townsville. She only spoke Engrish, she did not understand English and all the animals in the town knew her very well and wanted to have a discussion/interview with her for their blogs, podcasts and YouTube channels, but no language they knew worked. Mojo Jojo was fighting the girls at this time and passes by, throwing some rockets, which the girls blow up. It is then revealed that Neko Arc does speak in Smoke Signals and figures out “something”. She immediately leaves the park on her funny bike and goes to where the heroines are fighting. Mojo Jojo is has been defeated, but before he can get locked up, Neko Arc saves him and they ride together on her bike. She asks him, in Hebrew, why he, a high ranking Hashmal, is constantly scheming and getting beaten up by preschoolers. He says it’s because God said that children won’t want to be villains if they constantly see one losing to the same 3 heroes. Neko Arc argues that his constant jobbing is giving God a bad reputation and that he should have at least one fight at full power, to raise the stakes. He agrees, because the funny cat is his long time friend, so he drops his disguise and the two prepare to fight the girls and then the dream ends. Can the Power Puff Girls beat a Hashmal and a Cat Fayfolk?

What nation actually wants missile items? Genuinely curious what nation could use the bow of war. Though yeah, cept for black bow since turning a thug/sc caster into a retard must be great.
>>542484005Okay, small issue I see with that: what would it even be?The problem with polish/west slavic Mythology and history is that no one barely knows anything from before they got christianized, because until then everything was oral history. A lot of folklore and lore we do know is basically pan-slavic stuff, like the Leshy and possibly some of their pagan gods.So the problem is that the earliest you could make a "distinctly polish" nation is by MA or LA after they got de-paganized by either Ulm or Sceleria or something, and then they're just gonna be another take on Rus/Zematia, instead of really their own cool thing.

Moral of the story, fuck making assassins amazing duelers, and instead just give them the vineman summoning acorns, a skull talisman, and script them to cast (warrior illusion) x5Hate that assassinations aren't about who the best fighter is, but who brings the most friends.
Just started playing this game and Ubar in mp is bullshit. Why should I have to take true sight and magic weapons in my bless just to counter 1 unit that is like the same price as a tuatha warrior but also has spirit sight, flight, invisibility, ethereal, and also still has decent prot and an 18 damage attack.Like what am I missing here? Seeing how random events are (even with luck scales it's super common to get 'BAD OMENS' events that slam a prov down to 3mis) I start to wonder if it's better to just dump a shitload of pd into every province while taking mis2/3 scales anyway.Only other events that even matter are ones that destroy your labs/temples
>>542760357"Bad Omens" is actually a good event, because you get that event instead of something that actually immediately hurts you.The thing with events is that the bigger your empire gets, the less the fortune scale matters as it hits the event cap.

Hey anons, MA Marignon is a super fun nation. And I think one of the strongest. With their Castles you get high income + the army of Angels is very fun to play. Super mobile, and with buffs, they are probably some of the strongest units overall. The question is: what other nations have interesting summons? And is it actually possible to play similarly, for example, as MA Ind, with their Lords of Civilization? Do they have regular summons of Angels there besides those Lords, or is it all trash?Ah, and also, please explain the mechanic with communion slaves, specifically with the Angel Choir. Do I need to assign each of these units to a specific Chorus Master commander, or can I just group them all with one such commander, and the other 3, for example, can automatically start using them too?

>>543068373I enjoyed spark a lot. I think the issue with it is its got a bit too much of that hellenika feeling of shit just coming out of nowhere that's very unlike anything else in the game.Which is sort of too be expected, I don't think there's enough mechanics in the game to really give pretenders identities without introducing some new concepts. I do think that one thing you could do is waive the research requirement of a specific spell or ritual. That's pretty impactful but balancable, there's enough spells and rituals that you could use that alone to give identity and a niche to a lot of different pretenders, and since its one concept you can get used to the idea that a given nation's pretender will give them access to some specific ritual/magic as opposed to trying to figure out the obscene flow diagram of unique power scaling mechanics that each of the five nations you're at war with have..

I haven’t tried Spark, but I *really* like Divinitus, it gives a lot of playstyles and nations that secret sauce, by making either national Pretenders really unique and nicely synergistic or by making new common pretenders that address a big weakness of the nation

>>543153919This was a fun one to watch. Started like a typical fight vs indies.
>>543154173At first everything went, as far as I can read Pyrene's strategy, all according to keikaku. Most indies sat at the back shooting arrows that, as expected, didn't do shit. The manticore flew in and roasted the indie militia before getting skewered. The ten indie heavy cav charged right at the center, and the Pyrenian cavalry diligently ran right past then to go beat up the indie rear.
>>543153767IndMictlanUrukT'ien Chi*Marverni*25% of students of the way and gutuaters are S1
>>543154574Unfortunately for Pyrene, the foul spawn folded right away and got turned into sushi at record speeds. By the time the Pyrenian cavalry reached the light cav at the back, the spawn were already pretty much dead. One or two rounds later, and they were running. The indie heavy cav pursued and killed the commanders. The bishop called it a day and ran before the cavalry got to him.
>>543155001The indie rear broke right as the armies of Pyrene routed. But on the way back out of the field they still had to pass through the indie heavy cavalry. There the Pyrenian knights fought bravely and escaped with their lives after killing six heavy cavs in a daring 25 to 10 fight. The end.

do feminie unseen make for good solo thugs if they have that funky glamour spell that make everyone try to kill eachother?
>>543214280There's a lot of overlap and time compression, specially due to some factions being on their own technological track entirely, but that's roughly how I'd map it.EA ranges from 700 BC to roughly 0 BC, encompassing both Bronze and Iron ages. Marverni is inspired by the Gauls during the times of the Roman Empire, maybe around 0 BC to map the in-game-lore conflict between Ermor and Marverni to the Roman conquest of Gaul. Ermor is hard to date but I'd put them around the same era, still before the Marian reform of 107 a.C., which is where they went from the Hastatus/Princeps/Triarius system to legionnaires. The conflict between Ermor and Marverni is obviously a play on Rome vs Gaul, which would place it around there too. Arco is based on Classic Greece and pre-Roman colonization, and they're still using bronze, so rather around 400 BC at the latest. Therodos is based on some ancient Greek myths but I think that those myths contain some warped oral History about their previous civilizations, like the Minoans and Micenics. Those were lost in the Bronze Age Collapse, at some point around 1.200 BC. C'tis is hard to date because ancient Egypt was already a thing in ancient Egypt, but the fact that chariots are just part of their army and not the core, and that they look quite more "make do" than highly regimented and almost ritualistic warfare, makes me think they're also inspired by post Bronze Age Collapse Egypt, so probably around 700 BC. Other factions, like the giants, R'lyeh, etc., are harder to date and technically they should be a lot earlier. Ur in particular is clearly based on early Bronze Age, pre-Collapse Mesopotamia, which places them closer to like 5.000-4.000 BC.
Is Twilight enough to trigger the dark power buff on units?
>>543237701cont.MA is much tougher. Phaeacia, for example, is a semi mythological folk and would probably be placed before the Bronze Age Collapse. Maybe around 1.500 BC. Odysseus is supposed to have passed by their island before finally getting home. I get the feeling that the Domininons lore does fucky things with the real world timeline. The fall of Ermor obviously plays on the fall of the Roman Empire, but the consequences and reach are closer to the consequences of the Bronze Era Collapse - although not as heavy. I think it's a play on the theme about History being cyclical. And Uruk is a weird amalgamation of like 3.000 years of History. Iron, but pre-Bronze Age Collapse armor design and weaponry... It's just weird. On the other hand we get Ulm producing full plates, which in our world appeared AFTER firearms joined the battlefield, which started in Europe around 1.400 a.C. - but we didn't get to full plate like the Ulmite Guardians wear until like 1.600. So that's already Middle Ages and not even the early period.Pyrene gives me hard 1.200 Northern Spain/Southern France vibes, plus some cavemen which I'll ignore.
>>543239180cont.Man looks heavily inspired by post Roman collapse Britain, but with early-Medieval-inspired aesthetics. Notice how even their mighty knights are using chainmail. If we were closer to Rome, we'd have laminar armor, with overlapping scales or bands. Widespread chainmail was more a Dark Ages thing. That'd push them a bit further into the future. The general lack of cavalry as a field force, aside from elite knights that are few in numbers, keeps us before the Norman invasion. I'd place it around 700 a.C.Arco is using both iron and bronze. They're kinda weird... I think the nation needs more development. As is, with the addition of chariots and elephants, I'd place it somewhere past Alexander the Great, but still pre-Roman conquest. So 300 to 200 b.C.Marignon is clearly a late Medieval army, but without guns. They have elements from 1.200 to 1.6xx. Notice how common soldiers are wearing plate cuirasses (while Man only gets chainmail even for elite knights), but little else, even on their limbs. We started doing this when muskets became widespread on the battlefield, because the kind of armor that would keep a bullet from making a hole in you simply wasn't affordable beyond nobility, so most soldiers just got a plate cuirass with the hopes of preventing an instakill shot to the body. Plus halberds and pikes, which are late (mostly) late Medieval weapons too, already starting to step foot into the Renaissance. I'd generally place them around 1.600 to 1.650 a.C. They REALLY should have guns, though. Or rather, their main enemies in the lore should have guns. Their armor design makes no fucking sense, given that there's no guns and everyone's still fighting mostly in melee.Sceleria kinda presents itself as Empire era Rome, but aren't as relevant. They're kinda the Roman Republic cosplaying as the Empire. But understandable, given the apocalypsis their folk ate just short ago. I think they're a play on Rome's civil wars. So yeah, quite a crapshoot.
Illwinter should just add the Hoburgs from CoE at this rate, complete with mecha dragons
>>543239816cont.So in summary, MA is more, in general, before the fall of Rome and all the way to the late Middle Ages / early Renaissance. Some factions really should have guns.As to be expected, LA is also weird. C'tis still operates culturally like a Bronze Era nation, but their army is all over the fucking place. I see troops straight out of EA, troops from the dark ages or early Medieval with scale mail hauberks, and some troops with weaponry and armor from the more advanced nations, like halberds and plate cuirasses. Undateable, but I'd still throw a dart towards 200 b.C and hope it casts some shadow towards 800 a.C.Marignon suddenly turns into a mix of Spain and France with hints of Italy. Their army looks firmly 1.6xx a.C. but with some hints dating back to 1.400 a.C., although no longer as far back as 1.200 a.C. as in MA. Again we're really missing guns in there to justify their armor design.Bogarus looks dark ages to early Medieval to me. Look at the widespread use of scale mail hauberks and ring mail, and lack of any plate.Jomon is pretty boring and underdeveloped. Needs a refresh. Looks clear Sengoku Jidai time, though. Maybe a bit earlier. 1.500 to 1.600 a.C. Or maybe a bunch earlier. With Japan it's hard to say because they essentially didn't change from 800 to 1.6xx a.C., and then suddenly went from Middle Ages to electricity and full blown modernity within a generation. There was one naval battle between pirates, Samurai, and Spanish Tercios with pikes and muskets. Shit was crazy.Man looks like standard Middle Ages Britain. A more Historical take than in MA. Still before Norman invasion. Kinda could be anywhere in a wide span, but I'd aim towards 1.200 a.C.Pythium is still stuck in the Roman Empire, but there's some barbarization in there. Let's say 200 to 300 a.C.
>>543241372cont.All in all, I'd say LA doesn't quite advance the timeline. It does a little bit, but in a weird way (why is everyone reacting to guns if there's no guns). LA is mostly advancing the rear end of the time span that each era covers. It's filtering out the ancient stuff, the wide variety of mythological and fantastical creatures and magic. So, to summarize:EA: literal stone age, but more generally pre-Bronze Age Collapse to mid Roman Empire, roughly 5.000 b.C. to 100 a.C. Without outliers, rather 700 b.C. to 100 a.C. We can generally call it Bronze Age but it also steps deeply into the Iron Age. Ancient and Classical eras would maybe be a better descriptor, although it still won't cover the outliers.MA: Still pre-Bronze Collapse to late Middle ages / early Renaissance. Trying to average things out, I'd say dark ages to early Middle Ages, but that's like saying that if I eat two chickens and you eat none, both of us ate one chicken on average. Technically correct, but we got too many outliers for the average to be useful at all.LA: MA but less fantastical stuff and more homogeneized. Here we could try to say that average around late Middle Age.
>>543241372>Bogarus looks dark ages to early Medieval to me. Look at the widespread use of scale mail hauberks and ring mail, and lack of any plate.I think you could probably roughly date them based on the conversion of rus to christianity. Around 988?
And then you have niggas like Gath where they enslave the humans in bronze age while the remnant giants use ancient relics.
>>543242927>>543241372Velikis have plate hauberks, but you're right it is strange that druzhinas have "full chain mail" (and that this mail gives as much protection as a plate hauberk...)Here are some other units with full chain mailsMA :>Knight of the chalice>Warden of avalon>Knight of man>Knight of avalonLA :>Warden>Tower knight>Agarthan heavy infantry>...

I noticed people in these general threads seem to not like mod nations, while the wider playerbase does. Why is that, /v/ just gotta be special or is there a different reason?
>>543241142Those were already added by various mods: there's the MA Hoburg mod which is as close to a straight port as you can get, and then Gathering Sturm has EA Etruscan Hoburgs with human raiders, in MA the humans turn HRE with Hoburgs being like feuding city state Italy. Forgot if the LA has a Hoburg nation.

>>543378579yes a very significant bug actually.pic related.i havent tested it with a different nation yet so i dont know if this is exclusive to zemaita.when you recruit sylvan knights and you queue them up so that the last knight doesnt have sufficient holy points to recruit (they cost 2 holy points each) but enough holy points to be recruited in the next turn (because resources and holy points stack when you queue up units like this) the sylvan knights themselves will recruit normally but when you queue up additional units behind the sylvan knight with insufficient holy points, those units wont be recruited at all.when you queue up the units without the sylvan knight that has insufficient holy points then all units will recruit normally.its easy to recreate, try it yourself, and it happens every single time.
