After revisiting all the games I will say Galaxy 1 and 2 lack vertical levels, it's a reason there is no sense of difficulty or the excitement of being up high. The other games have a bunch and you don't want to fall down and climb all the way up again, it's worse than dying.

Side flips are weird in Galaxy because they make them require too much movement and you have the problem where Mario can be stuck going around in a circle. You also have a lot more freedom with doing the triple jump in 64.

Mario 64 has just the right amount of clunkiness so it doesn't feel like it's playing itself with 0 commitment. 64 also has a bigger moveset (and none of the moves want you to shake your controller), it has a 100 times higher skill ceiling, way more player autonomy, levels like Wet-Dry World that actually makes you think a little which is a component that's completely missing in Galaxy. Having preferences is fine, stating it as a fact that Galaxy is better is moronic
