Learn to pick your fights, don't hesitate to run away and don't reload unless you die, any fight you survive makes you stronger. Building an outpost will attract trader caravans and hostile raids. Building one too early might be more than you can handle. Pressing F1 will open the tutorial screen. Mousing over the stats screen and HUD will reveal useful tooltips and additional info. If the enemies feel too difficult - get crossbows for your units. And don't be afraid of the RP autism - engage in it whenever you can. And do unlock the sliders.

There should be more factions like the Heroes League in Kenshi. It mirrors rl nationalist cults. These groups are easy for ppl to fall into b/c they dress themselves in solidarity rhetoric, community defense, moral urgency, but they’re mainly built on exclusion & violence. Lord Mirage himself was killed during a riot at a stone camp last night - sold and quietly whisked out of town after what was initially supposed to be only a 20 hour sentence, turned in by "independent bounty hunters". One of my dream mods for kenshi is a system where after you ally with a faction you can start to dump the millions of cats you made producing cheap cactus rum into a faction you’ve allied with to upgrade their patrols/make them more frequent + rebuild ruined towns in their border + bankroll their invasion of far reaching lands. If your talking for a DREAM system? Each town has a prosperity level, with the high levels means there are no destroyed buildings, extensive farms outside the wall with several armed patrols roaming near the city, and the shops have higher end goods at a higher price. The lower stage means the city turns into basically Mourn.
The prosperity level would be changed by either world state changes OR the world would have list of events (sort of like base raids, but more spread out) that would effect random cities. There would be raids (which the player could help stop or help the raiders, if they want), supply shortages/surpluses (prices would be effected and the player could help make up the supply deficiency), political guests to certain cities (which could be kidnapped), ect.

If you exploit it by doing weird shit (turning skeletons into nugget punching bags, gorillas in beds, etc), martial arts. If you're actually going around looking for fights, rocks. Just assigning someone a job that moves a lot also has the benefit of being significantly lower maintenance (none really), but martial arts is also leveling up your other stats as well.

Lucky for me this time, somehow my AI is working despite having 3 gates. They always pick the farthest gate possible to toss em out but it works.
Besides this settlement gets no merchants so I don't have the problem of them picking the wrong door to hawk there wares at.

My first megabase in Shem was a complete mess though, haulers would pick up corpses by the outer gates and toss them right in the middle area where the inner gates were, apparently recognizing the entire inner section as outside.

Admittedly haven’t played much lately though. Every system has stations & multiple factions, usually including at least one crime faction. You can take jobs for them to raise their influence by smuggling or killing ppl etc & by week’s end, that often triggers a war all over the system. You can then join the war & turn in bounties, doing this can push the crime faction to the top/eventually anyway, which can flip the system into an usually anarchy state for criminal organization but theres other system states, pros and cons included. You can do this via trade etc too, theres a empire and federation and some military & pirate factions. Its a good system & really well thought out.

This is, amongst many mistakes, one of the biggest the developers over at Pearl Abyss (BDO) made. They had a captive audience, a niche combat system and instead of embracing workable engagement systems from other MMOs they went the way of being unique for the sake thereof, causing many sureshot additions to devolve into false starts, cut content and missing fundamentals because they can't get the roundabout take "just right". This combined with the capitulation to shareholder & market demands means the only people being served by the current game state are those who swipe to keep the company going. The game itself is vapid and lacks any compelling systems because the late game has been relegated to a copium drip. Much like how Kenshi ends about 20-30 hours in, but you can keep playing for thousands, and it will be upon you to find the fun thereafter.

They could, but the way they’re implemented, they’re not actual meshes, just texture overlays. Opening the shirt slot on skeletons shows a stretched chainmail texture across the body and face. Regular skeletons don’t have separate face textures, faces are baked into the body texture. There was a Steam mod that fixed that and gave face variations, but I can’t find it now.

I tried to warn you. The Steam Workshop (and Nexus, it has its own issues) is not a reliable way of archiving mods. Because modders retain the ability to take down work, which they do for numerous reasons, useful and worthwhile mods disappear over time. The only stopgap we have available at the moment is local storage by migrating workshop mods to your actual game directory.

Blog over - back up your mod list because it's ever in flux when tied to the workshop.

alternatively there's a cheesy 'execution pole' mod I use to finish off enemies I dislike on the go, I noticed that it's just a reskinned peeler so you could use that and pull them out once their limbs fall off (or go straight for the peeler blueprint itself and do the same)

Believe me when I say nobody has to (or should be expected to) spend a lifetime managing a single property. I suppose my gripe boils down to not particularly wanting a Kenshi 2. That wasn't an option because it came loaded with the notion Kenshi 1 had to be worked on. Could've written a book or two, perhaps started a series of short stories or expand the cinematic universe through video productions. Plenty of people have pitched for a TTRPG speaking to the whole Settlers of Catan connection. And why not something else?

It's presented as this inevitability that Kenshi 2 had to begin production and the community demanded as much. Rather, they were already experimenting with Unreal and simply wanted the blessing to go ahead with plans in motion. It's alright, just a real letdown knowing everything has been pushed aside for what is obviously a decade or more of development slotted in with this singular decision. Not six or seven years, 10 to 12, maybe.

Internal "discussion" on the future of the company has ended. The Laissez-faire nature of their workflow is no more. Chris has formed a coup by taking control of the company finances and is holding the rest of Lo-Fi Games at his behest with financial blackmail. He is drunkenly steering the ship off a razor's edge and steering development towards whatever arbitrary feature he thinks of that day with near-psychotic tunnel vision.

These things I'm saying -- not many people are saying them. Years worth of Steam revenue are being poured into funding widespread takedowns on various sites, including this one. To keep costs down on this battle on information, Chris has forced Nat and Sam to work out of pocket for at least a month filing legal notices, some of them false. The sites don't care to know the difference. The rest of their workers are temp contractors and were never even put on payroll, exploiting community passion for labor. This includes time spent working on the game and all development-related expenses.

To keep control firmly in his hand, Chris has sought allies. Nat has been given a full-time position 'supervising' the contractors, making her feel more integral and less likely to jump ship or seize the reins herself. Blood is thicker than water, and the nepotism has never been more clear before now.

I can confirm accusations of verbal and physical abuse by Nat down the totem pole; their employees are either obedient to a fault or too scared to say anything. There's no wiggle room for error on their part anymore and tensions are high. The situation is a taut rope that could snap at any moment, and you'll want to be around for the fireworks when it does. The transmission of the fogmen's parasite is kept pretty vague... here's my idea:

As far as I'm concerned this would be canon behavior if the game was finished or if they could have figured out how to get it working, like how aren't they all died out by now? They're gone permanently when you clear the deadhives caused by collapsing the western/southern hives, so they have to be coming from new captives in the foglands. Vain is right there, so they've got a steady stream of exiles bouncing off the HN and Shek/Swamp/Spiders right to them.

That or the fog itself turns hivers into fogmen, as the fog mask directly states "negative effects". Turning a player hiver into a fogman with weather effects is a lot more likely to be in the 'couldn't figure out how to get it working' department. Honestly, there should be more acknowledgement of how the hivers are a nuke waiting to happen with their volatile susceptibility to a terrible disease... not even the heroes league mentions it, so maybe it's not well-known. I'd expect them to be top of the list including 'diseased' among their insults. I bet if the HN knew more about the fogmen (or cared to) they'd have all hivers on the kill list with skeletons. All it takes is one of multiple queens dying and you've got zombies.

My headcannon is the the fogmen, shrieking bandits, and the cannibal are all caused by a dangerous excretions from the trees in the shrieking forest, which slowly degenerate genetics with prolonged exposure. Cannibals are the result of prolonged human exposure (who then migrated out of the forest) the shrieking bandits are first generation victims and fogmen are the genetic deterioration of hivers. I guess you could even blame it on the berserker plains too, but the face the berserkers are down in the shek kingdom makes that a stretch.

My in-game source? The Shrieking Forest has an orange smog over it and I saw that once when I had bad allergies, and I haven’t trusted it ever since.

Its not hard, pretty easy.
- Create mod file in fcs with unique name
- in game on your current save, press "shift + f12" & save the town with the unique mod name you created.
- Go to plastic surgeon and export your characters sliders "bod2" file and move a copy of them from the "data/character/bodies" folder into your new mod with the town
- create all the residents in fcs with the .bod files in your new mod folder selected with the stats they had in the last game. make them the residents. Look at a vanilla town to figure out how it works.
- Maybe make them possibly recruitable if you want, use in game dialogue examples for how to do that.

I do play with larger spawns and population but these fuckers right here are like fogmen
Near constant stream of them hanging around my base, I'm in permacombat because they never retreat, they just get their grasses kicked, then as soon as they recover they attack again, until they lose a leg or die. And before all of them are dead a new squad of them will probably walk in.

Amazing place to train basic combat skills though.

Performance mods depending on what specs got. Compressed Textures Project, Clean and Speed, Less clutter, and Fastr are some good ones.
If you are adding mods for more unique races and for more animations, then you need the MEGA All-In-One Compatibility Pack. This is a great mod packed with compatibility patches for many mods, and it's regularly updated.
Lot of people hate the vanilla UI, so you might want Dark UI or Clean Grey UI.
Copper Ore Drills, just something that should be vanilla.

I already do mod quite a bit. The problem for me is that the only fun parts of the game are struggling and breaking out of jails. I've done base building, I've done boss capture/killing, I've destroyed HN and UC before on different playthroughs, I've built a literal army before of 100 dudes and fucked up the entire map, and the only thing stopping me from a thief playthrough is that it is piss easy to be a thief in Kenshi. You can go from being in HN jail to 100,000 cats in about two hours.

hivers > skeletons > humans > shek
hivers are custom built for the planet and are interesting with their lore, I like using them and they fit perfectly into the game
humans are white bread but there's the donut OC flavor and it's cool leaning into their purity supremacist angle with all the other races around, they fill out the world well
skeletons are OP in gameplay and serve as a lore bottleneck but I don't like using them too much because they feel more like machines than people, usually just one in the squad to spit out exposition
shek are shit tier orcs and I find them annoying to use and talk to

The second one "Passive Crabs" makes Green Beach less of a hassle, wish there was an in game way to make them passive. As allying with the crab raiders does nothing, and getting eviscerated by roaming crab gangs, only to see the raiders heal them back up if you survive is an utter headache.

What even is cheating? The game can be modded to death and operate closer to an emergent storyteller. I generally find it's a question of authenticity. If you're too powerful there's no real danger, so the weight of whatever you're doing reducing to an afterthought. If you framed it as being for/against save scumming, sure, but do whatever you want to get up and running. Some people are so "honorable" they feel compelled to slog through the early game over and over. Make a game start, add 40 stats to some people, go. Cheating? No, it's a custom game start. Armored Rag legs are the only leg armor that gives a MA buff. As far as torso slots

Technically the heaviest you can get, but debuffs dex and has crummy coverage. If it's a hiver it's fine since they have lower stomach hit chance, but that seems unlikely. While you don't need dex for damage, you will need it for attack speed. Everyone I put in this armor dies.

This is my go-to. Excellent coverage, buffs MA, dex, and dodge. Very nice for skeletons since they can't wear hats. Very affordable between the Shinobi Thieves and random ninja.

If you don't care about your arms, it gives you a bigger MA bonus (+6) and a slight damage buff. If you're going for a Jax type with KLR or Lifter arms, this is the option.

Good if you're good, bad if you're bad. The buffs are silly and the coverage is abysmal. Does not solve your dirt eating issue, very "win more" in my experience.

The reason I don't care for hiver MA, for some reason they can't wear this which makes no sense. Skeletons can't wear it either but have other advantages when it comes to MA. 5% damage buff, +4 MA, no damage resistance but no debuffs. Competes with the leather turtleneck which actually has armor.

I don't care about buffing MA skill, I care about surviving. All these light armors make me take too much damage compared to heavy, to the point that MA isn't worth it. Buffing dodge and MA is kind of worthless when you WILL get hit, and it adds up fast. I have 80 melee defense, and I still get hit by starving shitters when I'm decked out in full plate and meitou weapons. Getting hit is unavoidable, whether using dodge or melee defense, but getting hit in heavy armor is just a scratch. Light armor hurts a lot.

I hope to mitigate the squishiness of MA/dodge to be comparable to heavy armor, but I don't know how to do that. If it can't be done, MA is kind of shit, especially solo.

MA is monstrously strong at higher levels, that's the point. It's hard to level it up, but when you do you're basically unstoppable. Fast attacks that deal massive damage and hit in large AOEs. I overleveled on my first playthrough and my guy was just ripping people limb from limb every time he fought, so I had him use a staff most of the time instead. Don't worry about wearing special armor, just find something cool looking and protective that doesn't debuff you too much.

it sounds fun on paper, but IRL i think the concept would devolve to having your small group of rookies do menial tasks for someone else, it'd turn into those grindy gachas because otherwise the game balance would go to hell and you'd be unable to do anything without some motherfucker with 30 lvl 100 characters rushing in and beating you to death before you can grind the needed levels, unless the entire game happens in a single sitting like stellaris, it'd be too hard to balance, but even then the tweaks done and needed to turn it into something resembling a playable state that doesn't turn into a single one curbstomping everyone else seems too thin, kenshi isn't famous for hi balanced difficulty, i wanna see it too, but i don't think it can work at a grand scale, and nobody would want to invest capital and time into developing a project that would be a dead end from the start, doubt kenshi multiplayer is coming anytime soon, best case scenario we get a mod for sands of salzaar/warband that resembles the idea

Idk man. Sorry, not certain how to fix. Usually any custom animation mod or custom furniture usually causes conficts with custom races. they also usually adds the animations to all the vanilla races, so those arent usually a issue. mods that add idles cause conflicts b/c it edits the skeleton, so its probably some mod conflict b/n skeletons i guess, still uncertain though. If you have idle mods, try both putting the idle mod at the top or bottom and see if that fixes, but just guessing entirely, might not even be compatible. animation mods should all be compatible with eachother as i said earlier, but idle mods, like the poses they stand in etc arent compatible with eachother if you use multiples of those, they usually have a warning on the decription not to use more than one.

I'm guessing that's the swamp house in Shark? Yeah, its navmesh collides with a branch hitbox - there are fix mods floating around. To fix it yourself you need to have a mod which saves the building position to elsewhere, even if it's a slight move, it can't be fixed by resetting the navmesh.

Its been a while since i messed with it. I think you can adjust it and save and it should stay that way once you reload the save, but you can also save the changes from the modding menu as you mentioned to permanently save the changes, make you save on the file its from. Also make sure to reload the game for the changes to take effect with collision and pathfinding etc.

this is always where I stood, nobody should have reasonably expected them to suddenly become competent after slapping a finished label on the original far too early and everything that was implemented being very flawed, the games biggest strength was always more its setting than its actual gameplay

by the time they got to implementing ranged it was so phoned in that I'm not sure kenshi 1 would have gotten that much further even if they had kept working on it, you can feel how much he hated working on the game by that point. there's STILL unimplemented/'fuck it' features listed in the UI for some skills. my honest expectation for kenshi 2 is bannerlord tier:

That's kind of my point. They should just give up on whatever dogshit legacy code this was written in and start entirely from scratch on Unreal 5. New models, new textures, new animations, new everything. Why? Because it'd literally be fucking faster at this point. There are people who knew absolutely nothing about coding who went on to make games with Unreal 5 simply because they wanted to and it was easy. And I'll say something else too: There's nothing in Kenshi 1 that was so unique that it cannot be replicated again on any other engine. Manor Lords pretty much does what Kenshi does, except without the free roam. Even though there kind of is a free roam, where you can walk around as your lord.

So it's completely doable. There's just something else going on behind the scenes that's hobbling them. They're the living embodiment of midwits.

I'll build as many buildings as I need to so I can feed my crew.

I wish things like banks and shops worked in Kenshi. I wish you could run a bar. But you can't do any of that.

I recommend smaller bases, perform better, easier to defend etc. Once you get a couple harpoon guys with decent turret skill, it makes short work of anyone. Even eyegore gets destroyed immediately. If you want to make a giant city though i think you covered everything, just make sure theres a peeler in your prison for anyone you wanna really make sure is completey dead for certain/worldstates.

micro LLMs are starting to come into their own. nanochat shows promise and the dialogue system has what I'd call easily isolated entrypoints - at least in a sense that we're dealing with a settled set of hook points (assuming no newly created). injecting responses then becomes where the game-specific parameters and found conditions are passed for the characters, what they're seeing an experiencing, their assigned personalities and traits, which then through the formed type / background can deliver appropriate dialogue for the situation. chatter can emerge from the people you place in a location instead of descending from packages - if you catch my drift.

There's a few approaches.
>Theme runs
Mono race ethnostate. You'll want to optimize, but need certain roles filled that would be better as another race (scorch smith for example), but ya can't. Force yourself to put the square peg in the circle hole. Shek ninjas, hive prince frontliners, that sort of thing. It's helped my minmax habits I picked up from wargaming and TTRPGs.

Money is for food and shelter, not gear. All gear must be looted or you're gay.
>Self-sufficient sim
The opposite, all gear must be made by you. All food too if you're into that. You can still minmax, but you have to earn it.

All recruits are ex slaves you freed, no recruiting at bars. Not because slavery is bad, but because you want slaves without paying. Even if you headhunt (KO and drop off) a slave they might not join, adds an X factor. The last time I tried this the subject wouldn't sign on for any reason, so I beat the fuck outta him and left him for the swamp spiders.
At the end of the day minmaxing is a personal problem. You can stop any time you wanted to, right?

Slave joining chance is tied to a character's hidden personality, so depending on the camp in question you can have most (or even all) of the resident slaves generate as fearful/traitorous and refuse to ever join you. IIRC reaver camps are full of cowards, the UC slave camps are mixed and Rebirth lets you straight up ask them to join you without actually freeing them or doing anything else. You can tell their personality by what they say when you're picking their shackles, it's usually a waste of time helping them if they immediately signal cold feet

Yeah, i kinda do the same, This is why i like job systems in other games, kinda restricts ppl to certain roles/limits etc. Id like to be able to hire peasants etc who will most likely just fall over and pretend to be dead when when shit happens. or take in elderly refugees when you destroy the whole UC food source overnight.

But yeah, id recommend giving certain ppl normal clothing, straw hats while farming crops, dont make your blacksmith do smithing in full crab armour etc. Have a lightly armoured leader and set your best armoured guys to the bodyguard role.

You can also get rid of armour king, meitou weapons & scraphouse shop too, they are extremely OP. Just use looted stuff like real bandits and revolutionaries did.

I did figure that out eventually, if their stats are too high or they're military tagged they won't join either. That one was kind of on me for knocking out Clifford the robot in Clownsteady and leaving him next to the southern slave camp. He never came up for sale (waiting for that taught me crazy shit happens if you hang out in one location too long) so I sprung him, I should have just left him there. just bought the game since it was on sale for 11.99
watched a few gameplay videos before buying it and some had some minor bug fix/graphic mods so I'm wondering on which ones I should get. note that I don't want to add any new content to the game, I want my first few tries at this to be vanilla so I can figure out exactly what extras I want after a while.
I got the texture one so it runs better, the talk mod since it fixes a simple feature, and the spider one because the description of it makes it sound like these spider enemies are overpowered when it comes to range (please clarify this, I have no idea if the mod maker is a big baby)
anything I should know before starting it for the first time, like a glitch that needs a mod to fix or some feature that doesn't work the way it states in game or...?

got rid of the spider mod and added sideways wall ramps, both of KPM's performance mods, a water optimizer mod, better mercenary contracts, dog backpacks, race blood, enhanced shopping economy, taxman/tribute/prayer relations+, and slopeless.
like I said, I want a vanilla experience with some bug fixes and optimizations. I'll add some actual content mods after I get accustomed to the base game's in and outs.

Tried The Slaves fir the first time, actually kinda fun after you realize how the prison works. I got drunk with power sneaking into houses and pulling the old switcheroo on the guards, to the point the prison no longer functioned. Since I broke my "free laboring, strength, and athletics" machine, it turned into lurking about during the night and eventually day to sneak in training in the guard house and, eventually, vanishing all the north guards. The best trick was getting caught, volunteering to enter a cage, and *thunk* when your pursuer starts giving one his old coworkers the speech.
All that to say I sprung everyone and got four guys, then one guy from a mine. Another mine was full of cowards, so I got skunked there. Now I have to slow my roll and focus on the food scarcity since half these fuckos are Shek.
