So in the first quarter of this financial year when wilds launched capcom sold 12,381 units of new titles of which 10,108 units were sold by wilds. So the vast majority were sold by wilds and while we don't get the PC percentage for wilds we do get it for the total sales overall (catalog and new titles) and it's 54.4% of that. So assuming the proportion of PC vs console sales are very similar for catalog titles and new titles and given wilds makes up the majority of those new title sales, we can just take 54.4% of 12,381 to get an estimate of wilds sales on PC. That leaves us with 6735.264 but these are in thousand units so just multiply by a thousand and you get 6,735,264 copies of wilds sold on PC but obviously the real number at the time was lower than this because this includes a few games other than wilds so maybe about 6 mil or so for wilds and we know wilds hasn't sold much since then so that should still be roughly accurate. So wilds is likely about 60% PC players. I think this is probably the best estimate we can make with publicly available numbers

Reading old monhun forums is funny. Obviously there was a meta just like there is now but people were so shit at the game back then they'd be recommending sets with wind pressure negate and stun negate instead of telling people to git gud and use the meta damage set. Times sure have changed but I'm not sure if it's the games getting easier or people as a whole getting better. Probably a bit of both. It does make getting info on the definitive meta harder but I think that's part of the fun of the old games. Testing things out and finding out what's best on your own.

I don't know why you think you have to chase monsters across the map though. Monsters will periodically just show up wherever you're already fighting the monster and they'll either turf war or just attack each other and one will be rideable. You can also knock monsters into each other and jump from riding one to riding the other if you didn't know. So when one shows up just wallbang the monster and keep hitting it like normal. If you want to have fun riding monsties you can do that too
