another downgrade to HK that I haven't seen anyone mention is how soulless the npc voicelines are. Every npc voice in HK1 was memorable, we got Bapanada, Velmi Artred, Chocolate Tits, and even Hornet herself, Git Gud. I legit cannot remember a single voiceline in SilkSong out of the top of my head, it's like someone or something suck all the soul out of Team Cherry during production

I think SilkSong has a narrative problem that makes it so that people perceive it as tedious towards the end of act 2 and all of act 3.
Looking back at Hollow Knight, the endgame is somewhat clear from the start. You get to visit the chamber of the final boss early on, and the in game texts sort of suggests it's the evil sealwed whithin that you have to defeat once and for all. It's kind of a Chrono Trigger situation where you can do the bare minimum and go fight the final boss, and if you still like the game, there's more to do and extra endings to unlock. Most people drop it at the pantheon shit, it's trash bossrush mode made for tryhard retards with no concept of fun, and the ending previous to that feels like it closes the story anyways.
Now let's look at SilkSong, by the time you unlock the first ending, which is very clearly a bad, unsatisfying ending, you would already be at the pantheon in HK1, and dropping the game, satisfied at the point where you left it. Bu in SilkSong there's, a lot more, just to unlock a satisfying ending. And on top of that, narratively speaking, GMS is not an antagonist. It is never clear why she summoned hornet, and the in game text only paints her as a victim in a larger plot of a kingdom's fail. You are not a hero vanquishing evil, your presence here is a last desperate act of a dying god, and your recurrent villain is a retarded child who only shipfag retards care about. HK is a quest with and objective and an ending. SilkSong is a tour through a neat world. Defeating the boss is not satisfying and doesn't end anything narratively speaking. That is why it's perceived like a chore towards the end

I wonder how easy the game will be a year from now, given that every patch/update seems to make some part of the game easier. Honestly surprised they haven't caved in yet and nerfed the high halls gauntlet or Groal runback given that they're the most complained about things by far.

i actually liked fighting the high halls gauntlet even while limited under speedrun conditions. the only change i would make would be making mount fay and double jump mandatory to access any melody. it's baffling how the most powerful movement ability is located NOT in the citadel, but in a hostile area in a corner of the map that ALSO needs another movement ability to access.

It’s pretty obvious that GMS is a massive cunt who is rounding up and butchering weaver spawn in her sleep just for revenge because she’s too retarded to order a couple of haunted bugs to bust up the bullshit that keeps her asleep. Also nothing is wrong with Lace in-game, it’s just the yurifags never shutting up that makes her annoying.

>>
>>542780856
this >>542781468
but now I know I should just do like my first playthrough and deal with him at the end of act 2

on my next attempt I think I'm going to speedrun getting all movement upgrades and a few things I personally like to play with (like weavelight and silkspeed) and once I have those, I'll bee-line doing great taste of pharloom and getting the free pale oil as well. After that I basically should be fine but I can still grab other stuff like mask shards.

Though, I do want to activate Garmond & Zaza duel even though they don't count toward percentage. I guess I'll put that in as a detour. I suspect that Moorwing can be fought with them as well even if you "skip" it via going to Shellwood. I noticed in one of my random runs that basically it seems less like you skip him from entering Greymoor through Bellhart, and more like "that is Moorwing's last stop"--as I noticed if I went over to the craws Moorwing started following me.

>GMS is not an antagonist. It is never clear why she summoned hornet, and the in game text only paints her as a victim in a larger plot of a kingdom's fail.
she's not even the one to have given the choral commandment, it was probably something from the Conductor days she was willing to finish (the Game makes a big point about how the citadel gives out Choral Commandments, and how exclusive access to the Cradle is 3fold melody required).
She gets blamed for somethings she couldn't have any way of doing (Verdania , Old Hearts falling) , which either means the writers of this game didn't nail their own timeline, or she's supposed to be somewhat innocent? the opening poem calls her bound in servitude.
Really her only crimes are shitty parenting, and the haunting (to what degree she does this consciously is arguable , why keep the bugs running your prison if you can control them?). she makes a big point about wanting Hornet to come to her, only to then attack her with haunted bugs? I presumed she wants to bind Hornet for some wyrm ability. there is no actual reason given.
She could have done well as a more complex villain, but she's almost a blank slate , her only real moment of characterization is her self sacrifice for her daughter, 0 dialogue. A Hero can only be as great as the villain they defeat and well, she's neither amazing from a complex personality, nor powerful alien diety force-of-nature Radiance.

>If any anon does remember any good talk this thread has had, then do tell me, the threads just feel sort of dead.
I've been in all the threads, even some before before that pic. There's been ideas thrown about, but I didn't notice any significant ones or any that stood out.
The threads are indeed kinda dead though. I don't think people enjoyed this game like the previous one. I think a good chuck are motivated to beat it, but that's it. I've seen a couple of posts about how it just doesn't really feel fun and feels stressful or tedious.
>>
>>542787854
>I don't think people enjoyed this game like the previous one
that's what I've been saying too but the discussion always devolve into namecalling and shitflinging, and it's a shame because artistically, the game is superior to hk
>>
>>542783667
GMS utterly fails as head of state, king/empress whatever

You can't blame other actors for ruining everything. She must take blame for what the land became under her rule.

"Oh this and that group all came and exploited poor old Silk what could she do"
Yeah that's the fucking problem. Being an object the entirety of the history of Pharloom and letting everything go to shit.

Would people give Pale King excuse after excuse if it was him in this situation? Fuck no.
>>
>>542788464
Yeah, every 3 threads or so someone writes passionately about how the game is too punishing or tedious or something. It'll devolve since there's others that disagree. That's just how autistic screeching words.
> and it's a shame because artistically, the game is superior to hk
Never finished HK1, but from the images posted and my own memories of it, I really liked the blue it had, but even I agree that the art in HK2 has felt better. It feels more refined, maybe?
>>
>>542787854
I am surprised you are still lurking here anon. I think it's because of how the game is both relatively new so no schizo tier theories, yet too old for anyone to discover anything new.
>>

Now draw a furm with tits anon.
>>
>>542774709
GMS is the most self-contradicting character in the game.
other retarded characters are First Sinner - bricks the timeline no matter how you dice it
Phantom - makes 0 sense why she's working for the citadel whatsoever

as for theories. Sister Splinter has the weaver voice, and her dreamnail dialogue talks about sisters long gone. Sister in this game is exclusively used to talk about spiders , so this Sister, spider, husk bound to branch,
Watch over these bugs, passing safe,
Warded by fear,
No longer your meal. is probably related to her. maybe she's the husk we see reanimated somehow?
>>
Any good Maps yet? That aren't interactive ones I mean.
>>
>>542789624
>I am surprised you are still lurking here anon.
Me too. I spent so much time trying to beat the game, and even though I finally did, I now find myself checking the threads like clockwork. I figure they'll be fully dead within two months or so (even now some threads end without an anon making a new one prior), but christmas will probably bring in a new surge of players bring life to it again.
>I think it's because of how the game is both relatively new so no schizo tier theories, yet too old for anyone to discover anything new.
Possibly. TC could've also been slacking in this game. Phantom, for example, feels like she's missing lore and interactions despite being a relatively important character. They also gave this recent update >>542786114 . Did they forget, or is there some important lore reason this was added in? Is this really something they could casually forget to do? Idk.

>>542790057
I'm not the one who drew that. I didn't save them, but I there was a draw anon (dunno if it was the same) that drew at least two more. I think one of them was a Karmelita.

>>542790924
I haven't seen any posted here.
>>
>>542790550
Didn't know that one. Plus she does seem to be able to create some thorny branches at will. If this is correct, I don't think she is a weaver, but maybe a descendant of the one the text talks about with maybe one of the coral guys.
Though the consensus on her seems to be she usurped Nyleth, and is the matriarch of the stickbugs, which would throw a wrench into your theory, since weavers have a hard time breeding. Her corpse seems to be serving as fertilizer for the new Nyleth moss druid talks about. Speaking of, what's up with the druid?
>>
>>542791389

On the topic of the Verdania regrowing thing with the new patch, I think they are teasing DLC, or maybe a big update.

>So I am freed, despite no request of mine for aid.

Hornet just doesn't like rudeness. She threatens the vaultkeeper when he wears her patience too. Depending on how you got that key it was a somewhat harrowing task and this depressive fuck sasses her immediately.

I don't think she was set on killing him but she clearly didn't really give a shit about him because he was a grump.
>>
>>542787854
as the world's #1 hollow knight hater, silksong might make it on my 3x3.
I only played HK for a few hours because controlling the character was boring and 1-dimensional, and also because how the map is at the start; it drops you right in the middle of a bunch of areas and forces you to slowly walk your ass all the way from one end to another with no direction. I'm sure you get more movement options later but it was too boring for too long to slog through to find out. silksong fixes both of these issues. hornet is a joy to control and the platforming later on reflects the enhanced mobility.
I'm not even in act 3 yet but there are some moments that I will surely never forget, namely the completion and performance of the 3 melodies and finding shakra's master. almost all the characters are instantly memorable, even minor characters like that freaky ass masochist dude that makes silk eaters for you.
it's almost enough to make me want to go back and play HK but I know I'll hate it still. maybe I'll just look up a guide and rush all the movement uprades asap at the beginning

Well a good chunk of this site is needlessly contrarian or stupid (which isnt great for discourse either), and those kind of people love slurping AI.

It's unfortunate. Most of the site thrives in either negativity for the sake of negativity or negativity just to be contrarian. The more people say they dislike AI, the more people start being contrarian and sluping up AI for the sole reason "because people dislike it"
It's an endless spiral that sometimes makes parts of the site borderline unusable at times. Unless you have a pocket mod, all you need is someone dedicated to shit up a thread with AI art for it to devolve into nonsense

You dont really need to cheese but I understand it being intimidating. Personally I used it as an excuse to play the game in a different order and that made it pretty fresh. The scariest part is Act 1 by far.

Because of her character arc in Hollow Knight about realizing Ghost was more than just a freaky little void golem. Her conversation after the second Lace fight is explicit.

Plus saving Lace also helps save Pharloom. Its a win win.
>>
>>542803142
Because she can see the parallels between Lace and Pure Vessel+Knight screaming at her and can recognise that Lace is a kid who grew up with a shit mom and no one else.
>>
>>542803827
>>542803862
It also plays beautifully into the ending with the knight saving Hornet and Lace (ironically showing definitively they would have been a failure as a hollow knight just like the vessel, demonstrating desires and a will and a mind to think). The knight and Lace are more than what their parents designed them to be, more than extensions of their own goals.

The sheer size of this game just makes the time it takes to get a single oil even more insane. Not to mention the fact the only other oil you can get before act 3 requires a long as fuck fetch quest that includes a bs timed delivery quest.
You should not be going into late midgame/endgame with even basic fucking enemies taking several strikes to kill, let alone bosses, and this issue is compounded by the fact that all the good offensive stuff is in late outside of a few exceptions.

Yes and then you spend several hours unable to upgrade further. Your first upgrade also does next to nothing by the time you get unless you beeline for it, and both sturdier enemies and bosses still take stupid amounts of time to kill which is a genuine concern in a game that locks you to one weapon.
The crest bonuses help a bit but not enough by far and this also means some crests like Reaper just get left behind to eat shit.

That and Hornet is probably trying hard not to think about what she got from the Pale King after also trying to shove a goddess into the void and having it blow up in her face.

>time waster or lack of qol
It's because the modern mainstream audience doesn't like videogames.
They see games as canisters of dopamine gummies. Anything that frustrates rushing to the next checklist item / gold star / ego massage is experienced as a transgression.
Like, imagine if you're trying to eat a bunch of grapes and some guy keeps slapping your hand away and asking you to solve a calculus problem before you can have the next grape. What a dickhead! You didn't want to do calculus, you wanted grapes!

I blame the encroachment of marketing psychology into game design. In the name of retention metrics, audiences have been trained to expect (and selected for the expectation of) a high level of spoon feeding and flattery.

Most likely explanation is that Weavers didn't change things radically. That goes for every single faction. They built on what came before, likely became increasingly deranged in their methods and so on.

GMS started expansion of domains, used weavers as top guys in that quest. Things soured between them eventually.

That depends on their reason to do so. "Because apocalypse" isn't a valid reason (because she'll fix it in a bit), so she denies them. "Because Verdania/Twin Lover is gone forever" is a valid reason, so she kills him.
>>
>>542803142
She doesn't, it was just necessary for saving Pharloom. The muh vessel parallels are pretty forced and they get shattered to pieces 30 seconds into the ending sequence anyway.
>>
>>542803142
Hornet's method of "saving" is "prickle the shit out of them with needle until they either get their head in order or die". It just happened to work with Bell Beast, Huge Flea, and Lace. At the end of the big boss battle, you'll be given an option of A of B, the moment you defeat her. Choosing B is the only way to start Act 3. So even if you beat the boss, and do literally everything else, it still wont start, until you click B in that moment. Unless you misclick, as other anon said, you can't do it accidentally, so feel free to play without care.

I recommend doing everything you can before Act 3. Also, if you beat the big boss while cursed you get a special ending. You also get an ending if you pick the A option (or picking no option if you didn't do the quest to trigger the B option). I'm telling you this 'cause you'll be locked out of it for sure once you start Act 3. You can get those endings, and load the game and still continue where you last saved.

The writing isn't harsh enough. No one is ultimately portrayed as guilty for the current status quo, the way Pale King/Radiance share the blame equally for the fall of Hallownest.

You are made to ynderstand, at an intimate level, the struggles and failures of the rationalist, scientific method of PK (no cost too great...) and even visit his desiccated corpse.

You directly challenge the venomous hatred of Radiance and extinguish her in righteous vengeance. There's a clear line throughout. These motivations are made clear through environmental storytelling etc etc

Meanwhile the motivations of SS are muddy and unclear. Is Silk awake? Who designed the citadel? Do people understand what they do or are they simply following what came before? Is everything automated. Is the haunting a conscious effort? Was there an effort to counteract this, the same way Radiance Infection was fought against through every means available?

Nobody can say for sure. Are Weavers or Conductors or pilgrims or Silk or anyone guilty of monstrous crimes? The story doesn't make this explicit.

I still think GMS is the ultimate evil at the helm of this, but the fact that intentionality and conscious action is removed from much of the "history" of Pharloom makes this ultimately an unsatisfying villain. Its a fucking idiot at the top.

Ah, I apologize for not being hip with the nerds. Thanks m8
>>
Runback is not even a real word in this context

What does it mean?
>>
>>542898132
corpse runback is the original term used to describe the trend of games copying the darksouls mechanic in which, upon death, the player has to return to the point of death to retrieve lost currency or items.
In silksong, specifically, runback took a new meaning as it is often discussed in relation to the having to travel back to boss arena upon death, in this case, it means runback to boss
>>
>>542897112
weavers made the citadel - Maskmaker , Silk is asleep yes, what that means is unclear. no one knows who Silk is - not even the Pontiff knew, they only know about the Ball of Silk, the sham religion gradually deteriorated. if the haunting is a conscious effort we do not know, GMS self contradicts if it is.
it goes like this Old Hearts > GMS arrives , makes weavers > Weavers build citadel as a prison around GMS sleeping form > they leave as they sense the impending doom, conductors take over > they build the automated core > haunting begins before it's finished
>>
>>542898402

>>
>>542898402
>darksouls mechanic
>>
>>542898668
That timeline is exactly the problem. There's very little intentionality behind it all.

Motivations are absent. Why do weavers spare their creator god? Why not simply kill the "danger" if it is helpless, and they are portrayed as cunning and brutal (if they built the citadel and imposed the ruthless regimen, which I frankly doubt).

No one is really held accountable or come to the realization of their sins, differing from HK1.

Silk is an idiot fucking retard. That's the main problem. The Haunting being a passive exertion of power is giga stupid.

>>
>>542899042
>Motivations are absent. Why do weavers spare their creator god?
the timeline is a bit fucked yes (see Phantom and First Sinner) they couldn't kill GMS because she's a higher being, they did try. they even made Eva as an attempt at divinity. the weavers made the citadel of stone (pious statue) andmade a religion with themselves at it's center. it is unclear whether the conductors or weavers let it fall into a state of greed.
Silk's haunting I guess to be unconscious because the game makes quite a point about Pale beings natures (which hilariously, never gets proven right) . and also because otherwise she stops making any sense whatsoever (why not use the haunted bugs to wake yourself up, why doesn't Lace do it?) ultimately the story's message is about struggles for power and the desire for dominance, which all of Pharloom had even before Silk. Silk is supposed to be a more complex villain than radi, but has 0 dialogue to back it up. no one really gets punished or realizes their sins. neither weavers nor conductors, at most you could say Silk does , though of all factions , she seems the least evil

>they couldn't kill GMS because she's a higher being
Whats the difference between a Weaver binding her and Hornet binding her? The first Weavers should be ultra strong, being brought up from GMS herself and knowing all the secrets of silk.

Even if one Prime weaver is weak compared to Hornet, a group of them should collectively be strong enough to do it.

That is, if they want to. Would siphoning off Silk make a weaver stronger? I say yes. So they don't want to. They want to keep her in the citadel forever, without killing her. Why?
>andmade a religion with themselves at it's center. it is unclear whether the conductors or weavers let it fall into a state of greed.
There's very little evidence of that though, as far as I've seen. The Weavers were interested in security and military power. They designed hiding places, not overt places of worship.

If one claims the religious buildings we see are of Weaver make, why the change in architectural building style, if TC wanted to make points like this?

Weaver religious icons and remains of their worshippers should be front and center throughout our travels.
We see Weaver culture, weaver art, Weaver statues but mostly Weaver tech and fortresses. The images we see are quite different from your view of the timeline.
>>
Also I would say GMS is the most evil due to having the absolute most power, and making fuck all with it. Being unconscious is seriously not an excuse.

Just don't be an unconscious twat in everyone's business, how hard can it be.

What of the sinners? Did they not rise against GMS and then were punished or imprisoned? If it wasn't GMS who did that, who was strong enough to put First Sinner in that jail?

>This was abyss escape or that one place in far fields?
Can you even get into act 3 without double jump?
>>
>>542902863
What's the honest difference? She is ultra super saiyan instead of just regular super saiyan?

Weavers are fucking strong. We fight several of them. We also fight weavers that were severely weakened. They had ultra strong tech and tools, fantastic ability to control silk straight from the source.

A group of prime weavers were a continental force that could conquer the entirety of Pharloom, and they did.

Hence, them already essentially defeating GMS and putting her into a 1000 year sleep is the same as killing her. GMS is not that powerful. Being part wyrm is not the secret sauce. There's nothing in the story to suggest that Hornet's mixed blood gives her this extraordinary power - it's always just weaver techniques.

If the story honestly wanted Hornet's Wyrm parentage to matter in this way, *it must* set this up through some form of writing to support this.

Hence, what I say supports the assertion that the character's motivations are unclear and needlessly muddled- see the Weaver question.

Was it ever explained why Widow was punished and who did it? She's crazy loyal to GMS, so it seems odd?
Also, is there somewhere I can find the text of those writings in the Slab? The ones like "First of the First." "Third of the Second" etc.
Also the text of those seemingly random texts in Pharloom like "3 rings. 6 steps. 7 jumps. 9 floors." (or something like that)

If it was the Weavers then she would have at least had the steel rods removed. So it has to be GMS doing the punishing which means that the rods are an anti-treachery mechanism I guess. Or GMS punishing the only Weaver she can consistently reach.

Thanks. After reading the slab lore tablets, I think it's possible the weaver spires around Pharloom that give Hornet her skills are actually the weavers listed in those 2 tablets.

Was there a spire that didn't say anything? One that was just
>...
when it gave Hornet a skill? If so, I assume that was Second of the Fourth. I don't have an image of all the spires, like picrel, but that might help in discovering who's who.
There's still
>Penitent, Eight of the Twelfth. Guilty of the sin of irreverence. Penance by chaining.
>Penitent, Fourth of the Fourth. Guilty of the sins of infirmity, sickness. Penance by swallowing.
>Penitent, Twelfth of the First. Guilty of an unnamed sin. Penance by casting.
I found 12th of the 1st mysterious, however. The sin is unnamed, and is also the only of these four where absolution was not granted.

All factions deserve more credit for having brilliant schemes that started with reasonable intentions that were probably a lot more humane and well operated at a smaller scale but became more and more horrifying as they expanded and as their practices were passed on to less capable bugs. Many pilgrims would have found relative safety, useful work and provisions under a higher being and her cohorts, plus rewards like the citadel paradise and near immortality via silk injection (which early on was probably administered by weavers with fresh silk and not random dregs). Infinite pilgrims flooding in became a nuisance that was in constant danger from the elements, wildlife and starvation. They would have been a hungry mob desperate for anything and their cultish devotion meant that they would accept anything that brought them one step closer to the citadel. The elevator to the underworks was probably packed wall to wall and running constantly. A pilgrim becoming an unseen slave in a mass of other unseen slaves was inevitable the moment GMS’s civilization hit capacity. With GMS asleep and the weavers gone the bugs in charge would have been fucking up constantly
>oh you’re hungry? Go farm muckroaches it’s a holy quest or something. Your grandchildren will understand.
>oh you like our holy silk? You’ll be deployed to the moor to catch the dregs drifting down from above. We have a big monster to chase you down if you abandon your sacred duty lol
“Sister, spider, husk bound to moss,
Watch over these bugs born low,
Raised up by fervour fostered,
Born and caught within our web unknowing.“

Instead of making the lengthened thread storm worthless they should make it so you can keep doing it, but it costs up to two more silk to get the whole thing off (it can end up costing 5 silk if you don't spam it enough or if you run out of silk in the middle of it) and then change the damage values to something they consider balanced. So now there's a reason to go for either short or long thread storm with the longer version dealing more overall damage but at a higher silk cost and a higher risk of getting hit while doing the skill and you can control the silk spent by how long you spam the silk skill button.

I guess that they can do without her because weavers kept cranking out silk far away in Hallownest and it rotted over time like a natural product instead of lingering like it was enchanted. For weavers it was probably a catch 22 of being the only bugs in town powerful enough to wound GMS but also being living dolls that she knew exactly how to take apart with her bare hands. Keeping her asleep would be the only option and doing anything that might wake her up like bringing in machinery to smash her or just getting close would be a no go. I’d bet that Widow tried to take her on in the initial rebellion and became a living example for the rest to stay far away.

>There's nothing in the story to suggest that Hornet's mixed blood gives her this extraordinary power
Eva's dialogue with the upgrades explicitly notes Hornet's mutability is unlike mortals, with the Hunter Crest upgrades and ability to swap Crests at all being directly attributed to this.

Even with the potential for full Godhood of a contrasting nature, attempting to bind Great Mother Silk is still strongly implied to amount to Hornet becoming little different whether by Great Mother Silk's will subsuming her from within or succumbing to Wyrm instincts.

>>542917107
It continues the choice from the first game to have as much as possible about him need inferred from unreliable secondary-at-best sources, where the words of the few who pick out Hornet as half-Wyrm and her own character as it contrasts to all the other influences in her life stand in for him.

In other words, Team Cherry studiously insist on keeping him haunting the narrative harder than Great Mother Silk is haunting Pharloom, which was a conscious decision of switching which of the Vessels' parents was dead to avert the "Angelic Dead Mother" trope.

WOAH
Double tapping Quick Map opens the full menu Map. I'm just learning this an hour into my Steel Soul run.
>>
>>542942538
How? You just never mashed the map key at all, even accidentally?
>>
My lord how do you guys play on PC. Trying it after 200 hours of Silksong on controller it feels so freaking weird.
>>
>>542942962
I guess not. In retrospect I have but must have just assumed I fatfingered E as I wasd'd
>>
>>542943129
By using a controller.
>>
>>542943129
I migrated to Keyboard after Steel Heart/P5ing Hollow Knight on the Switch and it feels much better and more precise than controller.
I've fought AbsRad two times on PC and I won both of those times. I first tried her getting to her in P5 and fought her once in the Hall. Before I dropped the game for something else that caught my attention. Rain World Downpour I think it was.
Now yeah; more than 50% of that is me getting loads of experience on the Switch first, but keyboard just felt right after just an hour of play.

I MAY try a controller run of Silksong to see what the inverse is like, but I highly suspect the experience will be worse instead of better.
>>
There are some positives dying late into the run in Steelsoul. I'm now able to identify danger areas way better than before. Probably Hunters march takes the cake honestly. Shakra gauntlet is dangerous enemies are dangerous cause they can tank so much early damage. Probably the hardest part of the run desu

>>
>>542946667
You don't even need the compass desu. I agree with belt and dice tho
I use mags for a third usually if I'm not fighting bosses. Same with grip
Silk speed otherwise
>>
>>542947741
the silkstorm nerf really impacted some fights. It was very noticable although kinda justified it was just way too good early
>>
>>542948302
It's more about them listing out individual bugs that three people probably experienced, and then not wanting to list the nerfs because it would make the list too long or something. I understand most of them, but don't hide them.

PSA for keyboardfags
Use this mod. This is the only mod I use along with Always Compass. Compass theres an argument against but this has no excuse for not being in the game.

Retardedly the Inventory key functions differently to the Crests, Tasks, Journal, and Map keys. This mod makes it work the same way. Now all we need is a mod to enable rebinding the secret keybinds of [ and ] for next/prev menu.
Controllerfags are lucky as it's just the triggers and they have no panel-specific menu keys. Just one [menus in general] button and two to cycle menus. For some reason TC felt the need to give this trait of the Inventory key to keyboard controls as well. But not to let us rebind prev/next menu. That'd be fine but for some reason "Inventory" is [Menus in general] rather than specifically the Inventory panel.
Absolutely fucking annoying.

Had a similar problem with an ancient controller that had a sticky jump button worn out by lots of Hollow Knight. It revealed itself in the marrow and became unusable on sinner’s road. Got the cheapest xbox controller and it felt like a massive leap in technology.
>>

Will Hornet get more minions in the DLC?
>>
>>542972259
Grimmchild and Weaversong were both Grimm Troupe, so probably. Although seeing how potent Cogflies are, I doubt they'll be as good or be able to benefit from Pollip Pouch.
>>
>>542942217
I wasn't being super literal. If I was, I might say it's inconclusive since they have no sight. I'm saying they don't sense Hornet, then intentionally attack her. Freshflies just fly around mindlessly by the looks of it.
I would agree with you that voltvyrms would also count, however, it begins to attack Hornet once she's in it's nest, which leads me to believe it senses her. If voltvyrm was already attacking, like how those pillars of electricity on the path to it's lair trigger even when nothing is there, than I would agree that it doesn't "attack on sight".

Doing the "run" back" (not a real word btw faggot zoomer) warms up your hands, gets your heart rate down if you're stressed, makes sure you're not tilting by requiring you to focus at least a bit.

Its also world building. You lose connection to the game if you're continuously teleporting into a boss room until you kill it.

Again, you're a faggot. Runbacks are not a real thing. Its called playing the game, and every game used to be like this

Would love to play as little ghost again, though that wouldn't make sense plotwise.
They could make a new character, or surprise us with an NPC like Sly (would be a Reccettear-like, though).

>>

not Op, but I like when a game has a stake. I didn't find any of them to be annoying or tedious myself(maybe if you were dying a lot?). having an easy retry doesn't add tension to my gameplay. It's just another round for a head bashing.
>>
>>542992270
that's the fungi ending, the implications is that they will make more games and the fungi guy will appear there.
to be fair the hollow knight world is entirely a creation on the fly, they can just make up an entire new location and story completely divorced from the previous 2 games, just the same setting, that way they can make a ghost like character

>>
>>542993458
a lot of things in silksong gave me the feel that they got burnout with it, next game won't be a hollow knight and I predict that they'll fumble it up big time too, because silksong showed us their 'one trick ponyism' to put it bluntly. my long term prediction is that they are going to make some vampire survivor like with a new setting, but it's going to be retarded difficulty and full of gay nonsense, and they'll take 7 more years for it, and it will flop and then they'll go back to hollow knight 3 which will be out in roughly 14 years from now

What's the end goal with "runback elimination"?

First, it was that you had to play the entire level again, if you died. Now, they spawn you at a checkpoint some way before the boss.

You want to instantly play the boss. You want access to the entire thing right away.

Maybe even just drop you in the middle of the fight. Let you quick save whenever you want. Just run with save states and become a TAS until you win because fuck the gameplay right

Silksong is not a difficult game.
They give you plenty of tools.

You remember those flying spitters in ducts? You can just throw boomerangs at them until they die. The game gives you tools to solve the problem.

I also don't play games that aren't "for" me and expect them to cater to my expectations. I will never play Counterstrike at an acceptable level. I do not understand MOBAs.

The heart in far fields, you gotta go through Hunter's March for it.
Also, there's a 4th heart you can get instead if you want.. It's completely missable, and not required, but I thought you'd want to know.
As for fleas, in P.Ducts, there's a flea you can find that can tell you where all the fleas you missed are at. She's hidden though. Hint would be to use those things with the long tongue that carry you upwards

So basically I softlocked myself into turboautism difficulty mode, and I was already struggling with all the upgrades.

funnily enough this happens a lot, if there's is anything they should patch it's this. the snail should tell you to seek and npc that used to live in bellhart, I don't remember if he gives any clues, but anyways... ...it's the npc on graymor, top and left, in a tiny bell house, you might have seen the house already, but he doesn't respond until this event

Just beat first sinner first try. What does the silk charge do if you let her finish multiple times? she only got two off before I figured I had to interrupt her.
Also it might be because I played HK very recently and she reminded me of PV but she just seemed way more fair than most other bosses. No bs gotcha attacks, just clean patters, decent telegraphing and sane hitboxes, with a phase 2 that is the same but she combos more and has one new attack. The hardest part of it was getting to land hits because she moves fast.

They buffed each focus level by about 10%, so it's around a 50% dmg increase now. Max focus dps is right below beast crest's bind, which is the highest dps in the game. You can do about 600 dmg with a single cross stitch if you build right as well atm

Learn to read between the lines. Hornet eventually warmed up to Knight. That does not mean that she would give him hugs, cuddles and nuzzles, and call him cute or anything like that. She's a reserved person, love is expressed by actions, not by words.
Also Knight itself isn't really different from Hornet. I never seen the Knight hugging people.

I think part of the issue with SS difficulty that I have not seen anyone talk about is that it's difficulty relies way too much on reaction speed, which leads to a feeling of not improving as a gamer, but rather, improving at learning a specific enemy pattern, which is only useful to that enemy in that circumstance. It's like learning songs on guitar hero, it doesn't translate as a skill. There is an initial learning curve of getting the hang of hornet's moveset, but beyond that, most of the boss fights, gauntlets, and platforming challenges, largely feel like trial and error, specially towards the end where bosses literally just teleport across the arena. This is why it's called artificial difficulty, learning a boss that teleports 5 times per second boils down to just learning to cheese its AI and doesn't feel like overcoming a hard challenge, it feels like learning to cheat an unfair task.

My opinion is the opposite. All modern games are too easy. If you don't die on a boss while learning it's patterns, then what's the point of it being an interactive game? Might as well watch a movie instead.
That said, I don't like the console saving system that many PC games adopted nowadays, indie games included. Because of this system runbacks exist. If it was more like Half-Life or The Elder Scrolls save system, it would've been a non-problem.

>Hornet can meet the Quiet Pilgrim near the Bench in Bone Bottom after Act 2 begins, resting in the same spot Pilby once sat. She asks Hornet to remain quiet as she meditates. Hornet replies that her steps are quiet enough, however the Quiet Pilgrim then complains about Hornet's voice being too loud and asks her to leave. She remains in Bone Bottom for some time, but eventually leaves and remains absent for the rest of the game.
>>
>>543161853
Oh, whoops. Had the wrong one. Apparently more than one meditates:
>Hornet meets the Fearful Pilgrim upon first entering Bone Bottom's Bellway Station. She explains she is resting away from the rest of the camp due to fear of the wider world, before giving Hornet some information about Bellways. If Hornet travels by Bell Beast to the station where she is resting, or calls the Bell Beast to the station, she is startled by its appearance. She also leaves the station if Bellhart is entered, or if the Skull Tyrant attacks Bone Bottom. After she leaves, her body appears in The Marrow, in the room below the Flea Caravan's first location, with two rosaries on the ground next to it.

that's also what I thought, something like Unn would be called a higher being and "pale" beings were an even higher tier of divine creature, but it's deliberately vague
my reasoning was just the tablets that begin with "Higher beings, these words are for you alone..." have some sort of magical projection that I assumed only activated for divine beings and their descendents. what evidence is there that any sentient bug is considered a higher being?

so what's the pilgrimage route anyways? It is implied it starts at bone bottom all the way to pilgrim's rest in far fields, but after that, are bugs supposed to just fly up to greymoor? or is there supposed to be another way we just don't see in the game? in kinda feels weird that they have to basically backtrack from farfields to blasted steps
>>
>>543170257

>>
>>543170257
The climb involves some rather literal climbing for the pilgrims. Presumably they bring rockclimbing gear instead of weaver nonsense like Hornet.
>>
>>543170257
>but after that, are bugs supposed to just fly up to greymoor?
Good question. The halfway home is there, so they probably normally get to Greymoore some how.
Speaking of flying, about getting the 3 melodies, Hornet says:
>Hornet: "I have, maker. Clearly it was a climb never intended for regular bugs, and fair fortune that the skills gifted within your lands allowed my ascent."
Implying that no non-weaver bug can complete this task, but couldn't a bug that can fly make a lot of that trivial? Cogworks core can be flew through. I guess High Halls has it's arena, but then one that could fly and fight would be fine? As for Trobbio, flying's not needed to beat him. Did someone really have to be a weaver to make it to the top?

The requirement to reach Act 3 is the Silk and Soul wish. If the songclave caretaker didn't give it to you yet (or you didn't take it off the board) then maybe you didn't trigger it yet. Check here for the requirements: https://hollowknight.wiki/w/Silk_and_Soul
Once you finish that, follow thought with the task he asked of you.

Some secret passages into side areas are unironically bs, and this is coming from someone who goes around jumping into and hitting walls and ceilings.
There's also the issue of having to remember/pin 12 different NPCs and areas that you need to revisit and then backtracking there.
>>
>>543182634
It's fine. Completely skippable. You just missout on some Green Prince stuff, lore, an entire location of some new enemies, some puzzle there, and a fourth heart.
>>
>>543183159
The Verdania entrance was definitely some Demon's Souls world tendency tier bullshit.

It's just bad game design, like the stuff they tell you never to do in game design 101. I did all the quests I was able to find, some markers hinted at unexplored areas, some of those areas were godawful to access even by referencing a complete map because the breakble wall was literally hidden by shit in the foreground. And then there's more, no hint, no way to know it's there in the first place unless you decide to just look it up on the internet, at which point the sense of exploration is gone and you're just running errands. Jesus I can't believe I spent almost 100 hours on this shit.
>>

Fuck no it's not. Fuck game devs who are afraid of chunks of the playerbase not seeing shit. We need more Ash Lakes and Verdanias.

I wouldn't mind super secret areas if they weren't clearly intended to be found only by autists, dataminers or by people looking online.
Give me an endgame tool that allows you to detect hidden paths, or maybe make an arena or challenge where for every level you beat you get currency to purchase secret maps for each area and so on. But giving me nothing and just expecting me to either autistically hop into every single wall or look it up is lazy.

not that i care to defend TC but recently I saw an interview that was somewhat explanatory, a lot of their decisions come from the idea of creating social media engagement, by making people want to look up guides or ask how to X on their social media of choice
>>
>>543188330
Having to go back to an irrelevant corner of the map because an act transition with no real reason to be over there isn't good content, nor does it make anything feel meaningful.

You have a Craw Summons drawing you to three feet away from the Verdania door and an entirely new movement tech after the world got turned upside down. That's the perfect time to do a quick dash around looking for things.
>>
>>543188409
That's fine but they should also throw a bone to the players who do not wish to engage with it that way. Again there are elegant and fairly easy to implement solutions, especially given how long the game took to come out.
>>
>>543190094
The craw summons draw you close, but there's no reason to go further than the water wheel. Silk soar would be meaningless in an area that you've already fully ascended, aside from the very top.

was GMS born with that golden slingshot thing, or did the weavers cut off her legs while she was asleep?
>>
>>543198765
ok so hornet was born from weavers who had been subjugated by gms, and then she absorbed them to gain their power, then these bees trained her for combat. I'm assuming since the weavers weren't around anymore that gms was pissed and so hornet had to flee but I don't get what this red character and this tree looking tentacle head character was. I only played a few hours of hollow knight so now is the point where I have become lost on the lore

I *think* that that one fan is literally the only mandatory progression in the entire game that you can't get beyond without drifters.
Not that I dislike drifters (I actually like it more than double jump) but the idea that the whole game can't be completed without it feels so silly to me when the block is one fan.

No, some bugs just make it and most don't. That's why, well, you see pilgrims and such in the citadel.

Loam's after-needolin dialogue also implies some bugs are born in the citadel and then tossed down from it.

Also adds git gud, heheh, and haha to taunts
It's been a while since I tried the other version, which was a bepinx using one, but that version just...didn't work right? So I prefer this.

Only problems with it, imo
1. You now occassionally say GIT GUD as a taunt. I'm sure some people like that and I do get it, but canonically that was not a taunt and was more like, most likely "DO IT, NOW". It's also SUPER loud since Hornet originally yelled it in a final boss scene.

2. When you "bind" crests or GMS, those apparently use the same sound base as silk shouts, so you will say SHAW, HEGALE etc sometimes during those scenes. Just a little weird but can't be helped

>what evidence
Because the information given is super basic, common sense, PSA-style proclamations from the state of Hallownest, and not secret messages meant for a vanishingly small number of people.

Like Pale King built an automated PSA-system where extremely basic bitch info most "higher caste" beings would already know intuitively is broadcast over and over.

Then built them all over the land, most will NEVER be used or seen by the ~intended~ high caste recipient, because they don't generally chill in each others biomes and why should PK in any case give anything to rival high caste beings??

It makes little sense.

Or it's just a PSA, and higher beings is a fancy way of saying "bugs are respected here, I'm a philanthropist and I care" and so on through rhetoric.

See also pic related. "Only this *kingdom* can produce one such as you" refers to other higher beings now?
Its very possible team cherry forgot about these tablets and the way they used the word higher being.. but mostly it's just a reddit hallucination that got a life of its own.
>>
>>543224080
Why didn't weavers free First Sinner if they got control later
>>
>>543224506
Still have to explain why Ellina can't read the tablets.
>>
>>543224761
That's some ancillary character from a EU type book?

By that point, the misunderstanding regarding "higher beings" and the general illiteracy of nerds means wrong conclusions are drawn. That's just how these things are.
>>
>>543224506
The Pale King and White Lady were exceptions who weren't hostile to other divine beings, they wouldn't see other peaceful entities as rivals. But more likely they're just made for the vessels.
Also
>reddit
but there's this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/6rvds8/comment/dl84v4g/
>>
>>543225731
Why are they made for the vessels? The vessels were discarded. There's no point in making anything for a vessel, because the project was already done and none of them were expected to walk around. Its not like PK was proud of that, see pic related.

Discarded vessels were considered shameful failures.

Anyway it's just more hallucination and actual "headcanon" being something repeated on YouTube comments, reddit threads and wiki pages and just accepted as fact, and no one thinks critically about these things. Eventually filtering into fanfic writers and so on.
>>
>>543225731
The plaques are clearly not written for Radiance, Unn and the odd Wyrm passing by. Ergo using 'Higher being' in this context is bound to cause confusion

Where even members of team cherry are unsure of what they meant, because they apparently never revisited their early writings.

>ok so hornet was born from weavers who had been subjugated by gms
They were created by GMS. Weavers were originally Pharlids. Those bugs with claw hands you see scurrying around in caves or tunnels or vents. Hornet was born from Hera and the Pale King in Hollownest.
>assuming since the weavers weren't around anymore that gms was pissed and so hornet had to flee
GMS was likely upset that the weaver's intentionally tried to keep her locked in sleep. Once the weavers realized it was no use trying to keep her asleep eternally, that she would always be the true ruler of Pharloom, they ran for the hills before GMS woke up. Hera and some other fled to Deepnest in Hollownest.
>but I don't get what this red character and this tree looking tentacle head character was.
Red character? Is that Hera? I don't remember colors well. Hera's the one who told Hornet to be herself, and don't let the other wishes of the weavers weigh her down iirc. Hera's Hornet's mom. Like, bio mom.
Tree looking tentacle head character? I assume that was the White Lady. That's Hornet's stepmom, I guess. Hornet's dad is Pale King, and Pale King made lotsa babies with the White Lady. The Knight, from HK1, is one of them.
>>543204863
>That's in the entire opposite direction. I'm not falling for your shit, retard.

>>
>>543222389
I think it's possible that GMS had control over weavers at some point. You'll notice that the sins are things like irreverence, dissonance, and apostasy. I think these all kinda imply that these weavers didn't agree with the "religion" of Pharloom/Citadel or with GMS herself. Maybe it was something like:
>GMS makes weavers and has some kinda potential mind control over them.
>First Sinner realizes this and is upset about it.
>Convince the others to put her asleep forever, rather than fight her 'cause of the control she can use (the Haunting?)
>Realize this wont work, so they run far and hope they are out of reach from her power.
>Some weavers stayed. She wakes up and controls the weavers (Widow for example?) to imprison/punish the weavers that rebeled.
>Continue to hope that a weaver is born, one not from GMS and thus free of her control, comes to Pharloom to finish her off (Hornet).
>>
>>543229128
The conductors were one of the few that knew the truth of GMS. It's not that she was awake, but that he knew why the weavers ran.
>>
>>543230212
>she's "asleep"
>but she still can imprison Weavers for apostasy
>she can still create children, and cast them aside while asleep (phantom)
>she can still micro manage bugs and make them do specific things while asleep
>she can still attempt to genocide weavers while "asleep"
>she can still bind Widow and make her a Weaver-robot while asleep
Massive cop out bullshit status. GMS was never asleep. Its a metaphorical status condition she got afflicted with after Weavers """"""betrayed""""" her.

Anon, she did none of those things. Phantom came pre rebellion (and Lace too probably).
She's most likely not the one who imprisoned FS , as her cage has runes , and the citadel denied her absolution. She has very little control over the haunted bugs, probably unconscious , as otherwise I fail to see why she'd act against her own main interest.
Widow was MK Ultrad by weavers, we see her calling them traitors and her being eager for momma to punish them in the cradle.
