Surge was a mistake. I'm not even talking about the redeemnic issue. That has been talked to death. Ian created a villain character based on the meta concept that Sonic always gets his way. and the populace worships Sonic and can't do anything without him.The factor of the franchise that Surge is challenging is interesting but almost too meta. It almost reads as a criticism of the series. If you know anything about writing, doing this can lead to problems when you aren't actually allowed to subvert the thing you're criticizing. IDW is not allowed to have Sonic actually be in the wrong in any way that matters. The characters can blab about it on the page but nothing about him will change because he's Sonic. There is a limit to how far Ian can take this story and I feel like he hit it a long time ago.

This is only partially true and somewhat ignores the context.. I will space out the next part for emphasisEvan did NOT wake up one day and decide to make the hotheaded rambunctions Silver into an adorable little boy. A combination of factors lead to this that are really easy to understand.1. Silver does not have angular eyes in Sonic 06, the model Evan was introduced to the character with.2. Silver's voice direction lead EVERYONE in the fandom to uwufy him3. Sega did not do ANYTHING to prevent Evan's mischaracterization of Silver 4. The situation Silver is in in 06 is so dire that even the softest crybaby scinnamon roll would become a murderer6. Nobody played Sonic Rivals.This is the perfect storm. The eggshell from which Uwuver was bred. He did not stand a chance.It is true that Evan has a habit of softening characters to her preferences, but the specific case of Silver was a fluke.
