But later on you may want both for different types of pushing and with different strats. Only if you're using them for generic pit duty do they become generically interchangeable. The same applies to the 6*'s as well even, in that case. But using shifters only for that is poor play and the wrong way to use them. If you were only using them for that sole reason, then actually you don't even need anything more than Rope and Shaw.

Generic duty all work fine, a new player like that wont need to care about hyperniche scenarios. Most metafags dont also. The 6*s having stronger pull/push lets them work on heavier enemies that 4/5* can't move so it's worth outlining them, that's more important than the niches between 5*s
The idea of a vanguard being a half-anni limited banner is EXTREMELY weird to me unless he's absurdly busted

I just said they all have different use cases beyond generic shifting, which is true, and they are all good for their use cases if he wishes to use them for that or play like that. You suggested generic pulling/pushing, in which case he should actually just get the cheapest puller and pusher, which are Shaw and Rope. Telling a beginner to level Weedy and Glad for generic shifting is bad advice. Yes their shift force modules are great, but are useful in extreme scenarios, not generic shifting. Ultimately you're really just saying, "6 stars good, everything else bad and niche, so don't level them". Which is really lazy and wrong advice.
