Right now you can only queue for one mode and one difficultly. So it takes a minute to find a group. When you do find a group you may get thrown into some dork's group with him as the leader. The leader chooses what level and difficulty you play on so he can choose something unrelated and you're SOL. There used to be a join-in-progress system, but it was broken and they are supposed to fix it. So again you're limited.

I would say having teammates is better just because you can pull enemies away and each complete objectives. If you're playing pure solo you have to juke the enemies yourself which can be time consuming.Matchmaking should be better, for now because of the update today. I don't know how invasion is going to effect the population longterm. A few weeks after each update the population would crash making queuing annoying.
