Why doesn't emulation general and homebrew general combine?
>>543556931We do both sometimes, a couple emugens back we were discussing a Mario/Castlevania hybrid hack of SMW.
When the fuck is V1.6 coming out? I'm tired of getting Blue Balls.
>>543564232The ironic part was that it WAS supposed to come out, but it was also during a time when RHDO was going through some bizarre drama.

does anyone have a list of ps3 exclusives stuck on the console?
>>543569065Never grew up on PS3 personally, but I'd have to assume all its Ratchet & Clank games are worth playing.
>>543572724Oh yeah, I might as well specify MAINLINE R&C games because I forgot about that weirdo entry that's like... some weird 4-player co-op game that in no way plays like an R&C game?
Nice game. Fun one on one combat. Not translated obviously because good things don't happen anymore apparently.
>unplayable on rpcs3 STILL (lol) >360 emulator is crap as always this game is stuck in eternal emu hell with no freedom in sight
>>543573104Seems like the kinda game Sharts-lation or some sort of real-time ML overlay would get you through.
>>543573104Game? Monomono just brings up fucking Danganronpa
>>543577028Tried this on RPCS3? Of course mad 'lad might fuck it up in who-knows-what-way otherwise, but at least some people have gotten through it okay. >xeniahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxIgRizwsfQThe last github entry on it was in 2023 and I have no idea if it's improved since. This video looks okay but apparently its prone to graphical corruption over time. The newer builds and clear gpu cache option might help, though. I have no doubt the game's fiddly to run on both but I have a feeling it can be worked around to some extent.

>>543573104
>>543577028For ps3 you're better off just buying a second hand one and modding it. You can do it with a USB stick.
>>543554656That is getting off so fucking easy by Sonic-on-Switch standards. Try playing Frontiers without wanting to kill yourself.
>>543580579Honestly, 360 too considering the state of Xenia, and BadAvatar is an easily executed, acceptable softmod. You don't even have to toil away at one of the worst hardmods ever anymore.
>>543580070I guarantee the overlap between homebrew and emulation is 98% at least
Should I get a proper Dreamcast controller for use with flycast?
>>543582004Don't forget the demoscene, there's overlap too.
>>543582170I don't see how one would benefit whatsoever from using it unless you need the tactile authenticity. At that point you may as well get the dumb tomagotchi memory card that chirps as loud as a smoke alarm and the hardware with the obnoxious optical drive. There's nothing special about what it does. At least the N64 had some truly fucky and unique button placement that's not quite right without a similar controller.

>>543580784I'm glad BadAvatar includes UsbdSecPatch, which means I don't have to use a shitty D-pad when playing XBLA Arcade titles natively. A guy at a local store's selling one for $125, which almost makes it a steal.

Still testing ancient-ass DOS games on 86Box. Now onto 1982, and I'm running into a lot more speed-sensitive shit, which, again, is to be expected. I have discovered that almost all of the ones that exit into a BASIC prompt can exit back onto DOS by typing "system", so there's that. Among the titles that do work well, I've discovered a couple of unique, charming titles, but yeah, the vast majority is primitive and janky as fuck. So much of it is hardly worth keeping in a curated pack.

Is RPCS3 the only emulator that supports FSR?
>>543626236Xenia and The switch ones also have FSR.
>>543626236It's fsr 1 so it's just barely any better than the lanczos on Duckstation
>>543626236>>543628837This, and several of them do. It just sucks, like barely any better than FXAA. Motion vectors somehow being detected so FSR4 and DLSS3 would work, now that'd be something. For emus and every other game.

Why does Vimm have Nintendo stuff again?I thought they got threatened hard?
>>543598449Probably fine in native Winblows with otvdm + dgvoodoo, if that. The ISO's on myrient ibm.
A competent dev could probably get them to work on the PS3, Xbox 360 and newer console emulators but the emulation scene doesn't have those anymore
>>543635213Meant for >>543632698
>>543635213Get what? Upscaling with motion vectors? Whoever figures that out in a game/engine agnostic way will have achieved something beyond emulation.
There are some talented devs doing great shit with upscaling injection/replacement, though. Shilled it last thread, but Optiscaler can swap any of the smart upscalers out with another (DLSS, FSR>=2, XeSS) and directly inject FG (not a janky LSFG-style post-process) into any game with the above upscalers. Who knows what the future will bring?
>>543635402Wouldn't something like a option that replaces TAA with DLAA/FSRAA if the game uses TAA work? I know that at least in the PS4 a few games use TAA

>>543637017(me) and of course he doesn't open source BigP so we'll have fun using a wrapper/emu to run it in the future.
>>543636574I highly doubt it and it's pointless to speculate anyway since almost no emulatable games use it. Also FSR doesn't do 1x AA.
Could doxbox pure run the sims or no?
>>543640706No, at least not very elegantly. You'd have to mount/install Windows 95 and run it under it and DOSbox 9x support is pretty ugly. The whole thing is just not how you want to go about it. Just PCgamingwiki the original on your native system, eat the remaster slop, or run a decent 9x emu/VM like 86box or Virtualbox. I dare not recommend QEMU...
>>543641717Yeah I was thinking of using 86box but dosbox pure looked easier to use if it was capable of running the game.
>>543641825Yeah, Pure/Unleashed is meant for dragging native DOS zips into DOS-ROM style. 9x is just too nested to work this way.
>>543637017>>543637471>t.Haze
>>543645395I don't have a good rebuttal. I guess this would be things he would say, lol. Still, these things aren't beneficial to anyone. Haze should fix KI in MAME, too.

>https://archive.org/details/rom-hack-patch-archiveSo i found this thing while searching for something else and there's a ton of stuff i never saw in the Spike site or anywhere else. downloading zip files from the Internet Archive is usually safe right?
>>543651553You won't catch any digital aids off a romhack anyway. It's not like you're executing anything. It's just applying patches to ROMs that run in virtual/emulated machines that shouldn't break out into your system. Use FLIPS to apply them.
>>543634858I believe a lot of those threats were fake and not actually from Nintendo.

>>543651553That's great, thanks for the link.No you won't have a problem for use a rom/iso pack, go nuts anon.
>>543640706Yes, I play The Sims 1 that way. You'll need to install Windows 98 first, though. It’s a Direct3D 7 game, so DOSBox Pure’s Voodoo emulation might not give you the smoothest ride. Check this table for D3D7+ games;https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Virtual_GPU_Adapter_Compatibility_List
>recommending DOSbox 9x in earnestYeah, you could do that. Should you, though?
>>543655083Oh, forgot to mention, DOSBox Pure has no MMX support right now;https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/PC_emulator_comparisons#CPUs For games like Spider-Man (2000) that need MMX, stick with DOSBox-X or 86Box.
Generally it's best to run natively if you can, you'd be surprised what you can get away with via OTVDM + DGvoodoo or similar wrapper. Then you can try some pain in the ass PC emu/VM if it doesn't work.
>>543640263I wish I could get back into godhand, I never quite got used to the combat, especially towards the end game where it really emphasizes juggling combos
>>543651953Quite a few emus have had emulation escape exploits. emudevs don't really have security in mind while coding emus. Just to name a few that have had known exploits>cemu>pj64>zsnes>vba-m
>>543662236No reason to use the latter 3. Real-world example of a malicious exploit for Cemu, please.
Not to mention you'd have to be a real dumb motherfucker to not only use those outdated emulators, but to somehow download a malicious ROM when every ROM site of any repute out there has been using verified No-Intro or Goodsets forever.
>>543662796It affected a version of cemu from 2017. Here's info on the flaw.https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/41021Found by the notorious Nintendo hacker wack0.
>>543664235I think he means to find a case where this was actually exploited and resulted in people's computers getting hacked or whatever.
>>543664581Yes, this.>>543664235I presume it's been patched now?
Anyway, I know shit can break the sandbox, but I think it's pretty FUDy overall to say it's reasonably plausible with most emus and ROMs. You'd have to be the unluckiest or stupidest motherfucker on earth. You'd have to be just about targeted by Tel Aviv to get exploited in this way.
All that said, do try to get the emus themselves from reputable sources. Build them yourself or download binaries from the dev.
>nah we just won't give you a PCSXS2 Windows binary with PGS, go fuck yourself :^)

>>543671197Yeah, I dodge Discord as much as I can. Thankfully those NPC types mods are easy to spot, lol; super sensitive, all about flags and pronouns. But there are solid emulation groups out there, like Xenia’s server. They’re chill as long as you’re not a jerk.
>>543671197funny thing is that Discord is banned in my country, lol.
>>543607353don't worry, too busy working on save states atm! can't forget how it took them 5 months to patch out a windows issue so the desktop version on rpcs3 was out of date since at least jun/july until this very month

So,did anyone test Test7800? Seems to be a new Atari 7800 emulator
>>543686551To play what in particular? That Grandpa Munster game or Ninja Golf?
You stay far away from me, you creepy old yid.
I feel dirty for emulating PS1/PS2/PSP ports of Saturn games, but the Saturn emulators out there just seem kind of ass compared to Duckstation, PCSX2 and PPSSPP.Is it just me?
>>543688732>Is it just me?It's not just you, although Striker is trying his hardest to make sure Ymir is a great emu. This is one of the few cases where a MiSTer a best.
>>543688869Resident MiSTer-fag here. Med-Sharts is decent, and SSF has been for ages. I want to emphasize that the MiSTer core really only has the edge in software for jerk testers. It is a difference, though. I bet Ymir will be close in half a year or so.
>>543689242I'm honestly excited that CD-i emulation is making progress. A MiSTer sounds appealing to me just for that reason alone.
>>543690168I'm hoping for more and more cheaper/offbrand options. The Pi's not too badly priced, but the shipping time/supply situation isn't good. Has pre-order batches. I somehow avoided it and got mine in stock.
>>543690453*MisterPi, rather.
>>543688732honestly saturn emulation has been bad for 30 years now, the devs should focus on optimizing the 2~3 games that are still stuck in it and forget about everything else, it has no future, it hasn't had a future in 30 years.
^ same goes for n64 emulation with exception it has no games left in it
>>543687006>Ninja GolfThere's actually a game far better than it with the same concept. And the funniest part is that it's the best Simpsons (console) game pre-Hit & Run.
>>543688732Yeah it is. What Saturn game do you think you can't emulate?
Mahoutsukai ni Naru Houhou (Japan) has a bug in Ymir and Mednafen where when you move between certain screens it loads the wrong background image for a few frames. I can't find hardware footage so I don't know if it's a game bug.

>>543634757When you compare the Mega CD version to the SNES version, the CD version is a masterpiece.
>>543704335I know, I figured the SNES version was so bad it didn't even warrant mentioning.
>>543688732>Is it just me?Yes. Saturn emulation has been great since like 2007 (I was using SSF). And now Mednafen/beetle exists too so you can run it through a CRT at original resolution/refresh/aspect.
>>543697636https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rhd2qwFmHwYLooks like Japanese channel hw footage; does it do the thing you're talking about? Protip: search youtube or other video sites with the title of the game in runes and "SS", you're likely to find hardware nip clips of it.
>>543704943I can't tell.
>>543704679It doesn't run Mahjong no Ciggy: Doki Doki Pantsu, though. So, yknow.
>>543697636I could test SSF and SiSTer if you know the exact part.
One does have to wonder if the Saturn was just so hard to work with that they just let bugs that weren't game-breaking slide.
>>543705608First 10 seconds. Just move between rooms. Full speed it looks like just a flash of random garbage. If you framestep it's loading the wrong background.
>>543706052I see. From the beginning with Lime (raimu) selected, I can move from left to right, and it doesn't do it, but the return from right to left will do it every time in SSF.

Mednafen falls on its ass yet again. How shocking.
>>543708112>>543697636>>543704943The hardware clip seems not to have the bug either, it may be good for your bug report. I chose Berry this time and retraced his steps to the old man's room. Has the bug on that transition, does not in the vid.

with CPUs getting much better every 2 years now, in contrast to 2013~2020 when intel dominated the market and CPUs got 10% better each gen at best, I think emulating PS3, PS4 and 360 will finally be very easy as emulating PS2, GC and Switch are now.

You could always drag a shaderglass window over his pics if they bother you. I don't think he's the "run an external app to fix something" type. ShaderGlass isn't 'free', also. Has a small amount of lag and subtle frame pacing issue. It does as well as it can for a post-process, though.

I can safely conclude that troonux is the way to go if you're connecting a CRT to your PC for emulation. You'll want to die, and you'll end up reinstalling a dozen times before you get it right, but it's the way to go. The lag is extremely low and you don't have to fuck with VMMaker; RA justwerx with 15khz/31khz/31khz+120hz when you set it, and it switches fast. However, even in the most ideal environment RA + PS1 will not switchres as smoothly as a MiSTer or console in Chrono Cross, though. It will flicker to desktop and crack in sound, however briefly, between modes.>MAMEPS1's broken in MAME. It and RA are basically the only games in town for Switchres. It also just doesn't switchres seamlessly. It's fast, but not perfect.

They will auto detect when the vertical resolution goes above 240p and automatically engage the interlacing flicker. It looks indistinguishable from actual hardware.
>>543956906240p is not the same as 480i in static scenes, which they are used in the most. You'll end up with something that looks low res but downsampled. If you want a static, no-switch, setup something has to give: You have to run it all interlaced to keep the high resolution, or run it all 240p and take the knock to resolution in those scenes. That or eat the switches.

If you're not or using original 240p modes like on a CRT, it's going to fuck up the pixel grid and there will be shimmering, fucked text, etc. You also want an integer multiple + nearest neighbor if you're applying a shader externally, like ShaderGlass or Retroarch's WindowCast, otherwise you'll have a garbage in, garbage out situation. Scaling/shading aside, the aspect ratio is totally up to you. Some games have correct geometry with DAR, some look proper with it stretched to another ratio.

Shamefully, despite being deep in the troonux weeds lately, I have not fucked with QEMU at all yet. I have virtman installed but it was being a linuxy bitch about file permissions. Worst thing about this stupid OS is how anal it is about permissions, root, cxmod, etc. I'm about to just run as root or somehow enable full permissions on everything if there's a way to do it.

>>544028485There are bigger issues with qemu-3dfx than just the frontend (which is somewhat solvable if you use simple scripts to handle it). Just found out you can download emulators off the iPhone App Store. Visiting family then I’ve got eight hours of planes and layovers so why the heck not. What’s the best emulator you can get on iPhone? And what runs the best on it considering touch screen. I can’t imagine something like Metroid fusion would play great. Also I have an iPhone 12, I can’t imagine genesis games would run great on it, right?
>>543990029Because they are retards. It was the best way to play them in higher res until parallel-gs, since PCSX2 on hardware mode would have some graphical issues even with hacks. Also less demanding.
>>543995997Dual core has always been "unsafe" since it works by basically decoupling CPU and GPU threads, it's just that you simply don't need it anymore on modern hardwareAnd there's not much else to parallelize about GC/Wii, it doesn't have some arcane architecture like the PS2 which is heavily parallelized (VUs, EE co-processors, IOP, etc). It's just a single core PPC and a GPU.
>>544067404I played Earthbound on some shitty walmart lg smartphone like 7 years ago, you could easily play anything up to gamecube without issues on an iphone 12Grab retroarch and you are good to goPersonally I wouldn't play anything very action oriented unless you have a controller or something. You may be able to get away with some 3d titles if you do not need to manipulate the camera much.
>>544067404Anything Apple allows you to use, ifag retard.Modern phones are powerful enough to emulate even PS3, the only real limitation is the OS, which, in the case of iOS, is pretty gimped unless you do some gymnastics to enable JIT and sideload, but for shit like genesis you don't even need that. Just check the wiki and see if another ifag recommended an emulator for it.And yes, basically anything not turn based will be a mediocre to shit experience without a controller, that's why mobile gaming never really took off.
>>544069976The Wii is definitely an easier console to emulate than the PS2. I remember I used to keep a save to compare performance for different drivers, backends and emulator updates with RE4 PCSX2. The open area of the cemetery is what used to give me slowdowns so I used to use to test performance years ago. Maybe I should try to test there again.Pic related is with dual core disabled. but i can see AT LEAST 3 different multi-threading options in Dolphin.>enable dual core in game config>general>deterministic dual core in game config>general>backend multithreading in game config>graphics>advancedthey need to be more specific on which ones to disable
>>544074103>Software renderer multithreading differs from Vulkan API backend multithreading, which parallelizes draw calls in hardware rendering, leveraging Vulkan’s explicit memory management for better CPU efficiency. In other words, when the CPU wants to make something draw it has to issue a "draw call," which takes up CPU time. On older APIs this was nearly all done on one thread. Because different threads cannot easily share rapidly updated data, multi-threading would often cause synchronization overhead, limiting performance benefits. Vulkan avoids this by explicitly defining memory usage and dependencies, allowing draw calls to be distributed across threads more efficiently, which (usually) improves performance. https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/High_and_low-level_emulation#Rendering_Advancements
>>544074103one enables dual corethe other improves dual core (so netplay doesn't shit itself iirc)and the later is for the video thread itself, so it can spawn more threads to draw shit, should be pretty safe

This is wrong if you are using qemu-3dfx:"-M pc,accel=whpx,kernel-irqchip=off -cpu max -m 512 -display sdl,gl=on"Do NOT use -cpu max with accel=whpx. Also do NOT use "gl=on" with qemu-3dfx. Try this instead:"-M pc,accel=whpx,kernel-irqchip=off -m 512 -display sdl"With "accel=whpx" you do not need -cpu parameter at all. However, kernel-irqchip=off is mandatory for Windows 98 and XP under Qemu.Use "-cpu max" only with tcg acceleration. For example:"-M pc,accel=tcg -cpu max -m 512 -display sdl"What about "-cpu host"? Use it only under Linux with KVM. For example:"-M pc,accel=kvm -cpu host -m 512 -display sdl"

>the consensus is shifting from schizo killjew's shareware and using pedobi's insteadlol I somehow felt like this was the better choice
Meanwhile, on 86Box:https://github.com/86Box/86Box/discussions/6410tl;dr it's possible to get a relatively significant performance boost, but you gotta compile it yourself, run a profiling build, then compile it again with aggressive optimizations derived from the profiling. Resulting build is machine-specific, so it can't be packaged for others.
>>544321936thanks!!!
>>544322590Yep, 86box sucks too. We'll never have a decent (keyword decent) one size fits all Wintel box. Part of it is the nature of the beast and the assignment in general is so broad. One's better off trying wrap or patch their way running Windows stuff natively if they can, then fall back to some VM or emulator in a desperate situation. They all fucking suck in some way, be it the speed, compatibility, or usability and some work better on some games than others
>>544315271it isnt on my 4500u

>>544323603it is! hence why I donated in the first place
>>544323141The stuff that uses QuickTime is usually early Windows 3.x or 95 shit anyway, and those games will run no problem on a slow Pentium PCem build that's easily within reach for most people. But yeah, if you want one program that does everything, it's a crapshoot, though that has always been the lot of the PC gamer. In any case, I don't think the situation is hopeless. Xemu is based on QEMU, and it's relatively user friendly, so that's proof that it can be made into a sane program. It just needs someone that gives a fuck to make it so.
>>544323704The only thing missing is a solid bin/cue parser (for CD disc images) and a simple frontend (with live eject/mount disc images and shared folder support). If they can pull those off, qemu-3dfx would easily be the best emu/virt software out there, no contest.
>>544324189I still find ftp-ing in + daemon tools the best way to nigger rig this. The command line in-session image mounting has been janky for me. ISOs seem to work, sometimes, bin/cue is a problem.
I'm still doing this in my Arch version of QEMU because I can't be bothered to get that other method linux-anon was talking about running and my ftp server is still up.
>>544324594>ftp-ing in + daemon tools the best way to nigger rig thisYup, that seems the most reasonable way at this point. There is no way to inject qemu using Reshade? I mean, it doesn't use OpenGL, D3D9, or Vulkan, right? For Xemu, it is possible with OpenGL.https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Xbox_emulators#cite_note-12

>>544040075>it turns out the dev DOES actually expect you to pay himkek, if only I knew when I posted this
Honestly? My preference would be for 86Box to obtain virtualization and GPU passthrough capabilities. It has a ton of useful features accumulated at this point, and its versatility in hardware is really nice. Combining those with the things QEMU-3dfx can do would be the best of all worlds.
>>544275602>3rd gen i3/5/7Not even that, dolphin is very performant.I played SMS on my shitty 1st gen i3 laptop wayyyyyyyy back in the day. Not circa 2011 mind you, but I was dick around with it in 2017 just to see what it could handle. And that was 7 years ago, imagine how much faster dolphin has gotten now.
Here is an example how to use wined3d in qemu-3dfx without wine-get scripts etc:Jedi Knight 2:https://youtu.be/VzHcL_ul61sGothic 1:https://youtu.be/_cTy6CLkZbEAnd here is the video where he did the same thing with Rage Expendable game by using wine-get script:https://youtu.be/t2AHiBNhEtISo, for DirectX 1-7 (Gothic 1, JK2, Expendable) games you need to copy these files into game directory: ddraw.dll & wined3d.dll + opengl32.dllFor Direct3D8 games (Max Payne): d3d8.dll & wined3d.dll + opengl32.dllFor Direct3D9 games (Far Cry): d3d9.dll & wined3d.dll + opengl32.dllWhat about The Wheel of Time game? You don't need wined3d for that game because you can use it's 3DFX glide renderer. For that you need to copy opengl32.dll and glide2x.dll from OpenGlide or Zeckensack's glide wrapper in the directory of game's exe (executable) file.

I don't understand how you have all these people working on something as complicated as a switch emulator yet none of them thought to add a grid view to the UI.
>>544345424KJ Liew's WineD3D libraries are under paywall. WineD3D is required for Direct3D games. You don't need WineD3D for OpenGL and 3dfx games. So, the answer to your question is: some Direct3D games (Warhammer Dark Omen is one of them I think). There is also free and open source WineD3D that works under Qemu-3dfx. KJ Liew's WineD3D is better but you can play many Direct3D games with this free verson of WineD3D. You don't need to pay in order to play games on Qemu-3dfx.
