Some early lower priority camp scenes can also be missed if higher priority ones are queued. To advance companion quests or romances, make sure to long rest often.>Q: Can I recruit Minthara without going down the evil path?>A: If you knock her out in Act 1, yes. You do miss out on the sex scene, but otherwise the romance remains the same.>Q: Underdark or Mountain Pass?>A: Either, or both. It's recommended to clear both on higher difficulties for the experience and loot. Both connect to the same Act 2 map.>Q: Is The Dark Urge essentially "Tav+"?>A: Yes. You get additional content, BUT there are points where, if you've chosen to resist the Urge and/or don't complete quests the "right" way, you'll have to pass additional checks to avoid losing companions.>Q: Are there any consequences to consuming tadpoles?>A: No, for the most part. However if you've consumed any tadpoles, there will later be a DC 21 Wisdom check to reject the Astral-Touched Tadpole, which affects your appearance if consumed.>Q: Should I enable Karmic Dice?>A: Karmic Dice will avoid streaks of low rolls, both for you and the enemy. It is recommended to disable it if you're specializing.>Polls:>Romance: https://strawpoll.com/NMnQ5kJXYn6>Race: https://strawpoll.com/kjn18WPzeyQ>Class: https://strawpoll.com/eNg69DKKjnA>Companions: https://strawpoll.com/bVg8o8l3VnYOP pasta: https://rentry.org/bggpastaPrevious thread: >>543289305
REPOSTING RANT:I went to see how solo honor mode nerds beat myrkul and I see fucking invisible scratch to rescue AWhat the fuck. HOW DO PEOPLE COME UP WITH THIS SHIT. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THEY GOT THESE IDEAS ORGANICALLY. THIS NEVER EVEN ENTERED MY MIND AS A POSSIBILITY
Crunch is morally neutral. Being a dick about how to implement crunch isn't.
>>543594382Honestly the first time I saw Scratch has the help action I realized that's extremely exploitable, but I never considered the game hard enough to justify using anything that extreme. If you're going solo in honor mode I guess that's when it comes down to it or saving dwarf meat, or leaving trails of broken potion bottles out of combat, or any of that other bullshit that's never really worth your time otherwise.
>>543594682>leaving trails of broken potion bottles out of combatI saw that shit tooThis sorc dumped shit on like four different spotsThen just flew all over the place. Acted like 20 turns in a row or some shit.Kind crazy
>>543594642When I hear about "crunch" I just hear office workers complaining about having to do shit everyone else does.
wait what dwarf meat
>>543593994Not really. Whom you love is not subject to reason. Whether it aligns with mainstream tastes is irrelevant.
>>543594985The roasted dwarf the goblins have in their camp actually heals you a bit. Might be a Durge only thing.

Something I don't get. The brain offers to serve you if you let it live. But once you kill the emperor/Orpheus, there's no way to control the brain. What stops it from betraying you
>>543595086>>543594682>Might be a Durge only thing.Dwarf meat is exclusive to the Durge but there are alternatives for everybody. Remember to the Gruel the Tiefling kitchen lady next to Ethel serves you? It heals 3d4 HP w/o costing any Action in combat! I discovered that during my first run when I haven't rested yet and simply tried to eat the food to see what happens. Every new character can stand in line and with a sob story they can get 2 rations from her. With 6 companions and 1 Tav that's theoretically 14 free-to-use 3d4 "Healing Potions" you just have to ask for. Even more since respecced characters count as "new". In practice I remember how I was "only" able to get one with certain companions, but that might've been just me using the [SPECIAL] dialogues instead of blatantly exploiting the system. The other food item I collected separately was Spoiled Treacle Tart which only gives 1d4 healing and has some temporary downsides with Saving Throws. I never really needed them but it takes little effort to keep the hoarding going, so...
>>543601082I realized that most druids give away free good berries. The heal is weak, but if you combine it with Volo’s ring, you basically have a reliable source of bless in the early game
I love goodberries
Does arcane synergy work with thrown weapon attacks? I feel like they generally don't gain a lot of bonuses, but I'm a ways from being able to quickly test it.
>>543605104Give away how? Do they automatically hand it out if you talk to them below X HP? Or is there a dialogue option to ask? I remember seeing in their inventory but never traded for them.

I still think a god of ambition should have made his own means to ascend. He's more like the god of dumpster diving.
Mizora feet
>>543612907Nope, based on my quick test. The test subject was Wyll in his underwear with 18 DEX and CHA (so +4 modifier in both) using a simple Dagger. AS Diadem (for AS), Reverbation Amulet (so our Eldritch Blast gives a condition and actives AS), Risky Ring (Advantage on Attack Rolls = less tedium during testing). The DMG reroll comes from the Savage Attacker Feat and I did not use Bind on the weapon. None of this influences our base question, they're just here to understand the log better. Left is when the Dagger was Thrown with active AS on him, right is a Main Hand Attack from the very same quick save. As you can see the extra DMG was only added with a Melee Attack.
so Warlock is basically a half-caster really
>>543624025Thanks for that. After some digging it looks like rather than "weapon attacks" thrown weapons are counted as unarmed in certain ways. I'm kind of tempted to test the extent of that, but luckily with monk gear you pretty much get it all organically and there's no real investment needed, so I'll just cross that bridge when I get to it.>>543624213You don't really miss out on doing caster shit as a warlock. I find having limited short rest spell slots that only cast at your highest level encourages me to use more magic when playing, if anything. When it comes to wizards/clerics/druids I find I always hoard the highest level spell slots thinking I'll need them later, but never do.
>>543620745He did, the main components of his ascension were the orb and the crown, he got the orb himself earlier (although for a different purpose) and the crown with the party, but no one says it's not ambitious to have allies.
>>543625003You're welcome. Out of sheer luck I'm running a Throwing build as well, so let me show you something interesting.>thrown weapons are counted as unarmed in certain waysThis is generally true but not always. You know the Flawed Helldusk Gloves, right? +1d4 Fire for weapon attacks, +1d4 Necrotic and the potential for Bleeding for unarmed ones. Check the attached log! It shows both Fire and Bleeding applied but no Necrotic! You can chalk up this to the Gloves' peculiarity but for example Sparkle Hands (2 Lightning Charges per a hit with an unarmed attack) also works with Thrown weapons. Well, at least with the Returning Pike but everybody uses that anyways. What 100% works with a Throw build is the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo (+1d4 DMG but specifically for Throw attacks), Ring of Flinging (same just a ring), Caustic Band (+2 Acid for weapon attacks). That is your foundation as they're available relatively early and universally useful. Then you can find extra pieces like the gloves I mentioned above that shouldn't work based on description but in practice they do. The ring that gives +1d4 DMG against Obscured and Shadow creatures also belongs here despite only mentioning "weapon and unarmed attacks". So the repertoire is bigger than it seems for the first glimpse.

>>543646117Originally I though that spell learning option was a quick buy interface as an alternative for hunting down scrolls at vendors, so I was fine with paying to be able to learn them. Turned out it's a list composed of spells you have scrolls of, which obviously takes that element away from the equation. I'm sure there's some so-called explanation - like when Gale explained how creating an ever-burning torch costs as much diamond dust as "half of a queen's crown" or something, but didn't address how a level 5 wizard who rather died of thirst cowering in her safe place than facing a couple of mastiffs was able to afford to light like 7-8 torches - but it will hardly be satisfying.>>543645739Where's Lakrissa?

As much as I don't go down the ascended astarion, god gale, and shardowheart paths I do appreciate their existence. Vastly different outcomes and it does make me feel just the slightest bit bad when I normally shut down astarion and gale on moral/thematic reasons, feels like I'm not letting them live their full potential and all that. That said their more grand character arcs compared to the laezel, karlach and wyll are probably why I don't think karlach and wyll left much impact on me. Understandable why they wouldn't have as much growth or reason to grow, but it still felt kind of flat despite them being the better fits in the party for my moral ass
>>543651170You're upholding the laws of Vlaakith in that case
>>543646117>>543649542>>543646117In the tabletop version, learning spells as a wizard is fairly easy: you just need to find a scroll or a book with a new spell, copy it into your spellbook, and that’s it. In the tabletop game, copying and studying a spell usually requires 50 gp worth of materials such as paper, ink, quills, etc., to transcribe the spell; these are items the player must go and purchase in shops.Furthermore, when it comes to actually casting a spell, spells in D&D have various components required to cast them. Some need specific items or artifacts that a wizard keeps on hand. Wizard players always carry a component pouch, which holds all the necessary materials. Usually, in the tabletop version, the wizard buys the materials for a one-time fee, or according to whatever the DM decides.>but didn't address how a level 5 wizard who rather died of thirst cowering in her safe place than facing a couple of mastiffs was able to afford to light like 7-8 torchesTrue Soul Korliss was sent by Ketheric to find Last Light, I'm pretty sure the General equipped their troops with all the equipment they needed, arcane components included.

Do people actually dislike Halsin that much? Why?He's just a big chill bear dude who hangs out with you, can off-heal and off-tank, and will pound you if you want. But he's also cool not doing that. It's not like Wyll where you shatter his whole reality by not wanting to cheat on your existing partner with him out of nowhere.I love hanging out with him; he and Jaheira feel a lot more mature than the rest of the party. Sometimes when I don't want to feel like I'm babysitting my younger friends' feelings I bring them along and we wander the streets of the Gate looking for relaxing trouble.Legitimately curious: what's not to like about him?

dhampir/werewolf abomination
>>543649413Sure. You can make your own backstory. Whom is he swearing vengeance upon? Is he a resist durge who is swearing vengeance upon Bhaal for his lot in life and making him a monster? Perhaps upon Orin for making scrambled eggs with his brain?Oath of Crown pally who is just a simp for daddy bhaal?I think you can make a narratively appropriate Durge out of fighter, sorc, wizard, rogue, paladin, barb, and cleric of Bhaal.Warlock is a bit trickier since most patrons would not want to step in on Bhaal's property, and Bhaal would say why are you looking for power elsewhere besides me. But you could always be creative and give a reason.Bard is also trickier since much of the bard content in this game is reddit humor, but you can always spin that as the psychopath who jokes one minute and murders someone the next. Also, ballads of mass murder and death is a staple of skalds and the like.Druid is a bit trickier too since they're supposed to be in tune with the natural order of life which includes life and death, which conflicts a bit with bhaal's message of "kill everything, nothing alive".
>>543654695You can't select Bhaal as your Cleric deity. And if you could (by installing a mod), that would clash with the narrative of you being an amnesiac. Everything else checks out. Cleric and Druid are the only two classes that don't make much sense for the Dark Urge.
>>543653885Well thats a bit different. For murder and being a squidman that is "my" choice, with the others I feel like I'm cockblocking them. Also I've seen my co-op buddies do it enough times to know it doesn't seem as fulfilling than freedom. Also saw them fumble the duel and off post-finale a few times
>>543655429I'm not just talking about at character creation, I'm talking about narrative. Durge being a cleric of bhaal makes sense narratively, if he were to choose the route of being loyal to bhaal, and he wasn't already a different class he doesn't want to change away from. Death domain is Bhaal's cleric domain, so after that was added you even get to play it out mechanically without mods, even if your character sheet doesn't have the word "Bhaal" on it. I forgot to mention monk. Monk loyalist bhaal is pretty funny, but I think monk resist durge is actually kind of neat.

>why choose Light domain for an ex-cleric of the dark God I wonder
>>543663330Trickery and Knowledge do have some overlap though. Both have a bit of focus on control spells. Knowledge domain also gets speak with animals which is a fitting add on. It definitely suits her better than shooting fireballs as a Selune cleric
>>543662541(moon)light.You can't have (light) without a little shadow.Whoa....deep.Life doesn't really suit her, and neither does knowledge. My favorite is Death domain when she's Sharran, and then when she steps into Selune's light, she becomes Light as symbolism. I feel like John would approve, given his hitting the palyer over the head with light analogies. She doesn't immediately start worshiping Selune, but she does become aware of what is happening, one of her lines is "I'd hate to admit where my powers come from now", meaning she's aware it's Selune but she doesn't want to jump right to worshiping another god so quickly, so they just sort of have an understanding for the moment. Which is not how most clerics work, but a god can do whatever they want, so Selune gave her powers as a reward for saving her daughter and a sort of "I will welcome you back into my flock if you want, and these powers are here if you do want to follow me, but if you don't that's fine too, I'll probably revoke them at some point in the future with no hard feelings if not" sort of thing. Selune is actually pretty chill, relative to most gods. Having an incredibly broad portfolio combined with being relatively chill has made her one of the most popular gods in the setting.

>>543661548>Light isn't one of Selune's domains.I bet this surprised many people when they first saw it. To be frank I wasn't an exception either. >>543664503Death vs Life and Trickery vs Knowledge. The latter represents two different approaches rather than being the direct opposite of each other but it works. The first deity who would pop into my head when it comes to Light domain is Lathander. If we go with the Selune represents the Moon and Shar the Darkness analogy he would be the Sun. To make it more interesting his other domain is Life, but he embraces a different aspect of it than Selune. In short the way domains assigned to deities in-game don't necessarily follow the most obvious or rational routes, but since the differences are often (for lack of a better term) philosophical some leeway definitely exists with these choices. Picking her Light as a domain is a good example.

>>543669185Selune is the “light” to Shar’s “darkness.” Some lore technicality pales in comparison to the obvious, potent symbolism. Light domain is ultra popular for that reason. Knowledge domain is forgotten because it sounds boring as hell, is boring as hell, and is also a shit domain mechanically
>>543670207Selune and Shar complete the night sky. Selune works well with Twilight domain for that reason. Cool and gentle for the Moon. Light domain is for the Sun. It's all about fire and radiance.
>>543670207>Shar's "darkness">no darkness domainwtf??? where's my symbolism
>>543670813I can't believe Dame Aylin gave me "Selune's Spear of Night". What the fuck man? This isn't thematically appropriate. Reddit told me Selune is all about light like a sweet summer's day.
>>543670198yeah, the additional encounters mod that is on the front page of modio is really good. A lot of the fights are placed in areas that felt oddly empty, and most of them have a vanilla+ feel and rarely break your immersion. Also check out tactician enhanced, it has several nice additions to existing encounters, like expanded spell lists for enemies, new items in their inventories like nets and arrows, and best of all it gives realistic subclasses to lots of enemies just like the player has which are missing from some enemies in vanilla.
>>543671594Gotcha, any other mods you'd recommend? Haven't played since release but getting the urge to play again
Really Shadowheart
>>543670708>>543670813What is not clear about that? The cleric of “darkness” comes to embrace the “light.” Most players choose the “light domain” after turning from the “darkness.”

>>543672002>embrace the "light">start throwing out walls of fire, columns of fire, fireballs, and rays of firenot one of Selune's domains, sorry! you can still do it, it just isn't thematic is all!
>>543669897>thematicThis is a silly misuse of the term. What would actually be thematic is Shadowheart wielding the light of Selûne to pierce the darkness - Radiance of the Dawn deals radiant damage, not fire damage. We have a specific case where it makes perfect sense, yet you're trying to rule-lawyer this shit with a "technically, Light isn't a domain of Selûne's portfolio..." like a nerd, ignoring that D&D allows that kind of flexibility. It's not like Selûne is personally curating the spells a Cleric of hers can or can't use according to the damage type or "theme." Narrative takes precedence over mechanics.
>>543672316and life cleric has radiant divine strike, but is also actually one of Selune's domains
>>543672002I doubt most people even bother to respec. Some may pick Light if they didn't understand the domain. Your first channel divinity spell is called RADIANCE OF THE DAWN for crying out loud and reference the Sun's power. It just doesn't fit Selune at all.

>>543671827That's pretty much it for actual recommendations. The rest is personal taste.I like d20 initiative, it makes it more like tabletop and lets some stats and feats feel more balanced.AMP+REL is an interesting mod that randomizes all loot and adds 450 items. I wouldn't really recommend it unless you're looking to drastically change the way itemization works, but I do respect the mod for being pretty detailed and extensive. It adds a lot of items, most of them are reasonably balanced, and the mod has a fun loot system where you can recycle items you don't want into random items but the machine to do that requires a battery that you get from doing side quests and main story quests, which gates your items behind story progression. It's reasonably well done and neat for a non-serious playthrough after you've played the game for real a few times.Other than those, there are a ton of cosmetic mods. I use one that gives you a few dyes that are not in the base game, and one that just adds all the clothing that are in the game but not player accessible. There are lots of face and hairstyle mods as well.Mystra's spells adds a ton of spells from the rulebook's wizard and cleric ewtc spell lists that were not added to the vanilla game, but honestly most of them were not added for a reason, like they have little purpose in a videogame or they're stronger than larian's intended power spikes or whatever reason. I use it and it's generally well made technically but like the last one I'd save this one for after you've done it vanilla at least once. There is a level 20 mod, but the game isn't balanced around you being level 20. So then you have to start editing Tactician Enhanced's options to balance the game for level 20, which you can do but when I was finicking with it I suddenly realized why don't I just not be level 20.Tactician Enhanced has a cool feature where you can add actions and max hp to enemies as well, not just items and spells and subclasses.

>>543672631>>543672758You've been missing the point, even though I made sure to put it at the end. Narrative takes precedence over mechanics. When we talk about the Light or Life domains, or when I mention "Radiance of the Dawn," these are mechanics. Shadowheart doesn't have her character sheet in front of her, nor is she choosing to specifically cast "Radiance of the Dawn." Narratively, she is merely channeling the divine power of her deity (Selûne, in this case) to dispel the darkness. You could call it Lunar Flare or whatever you want, since she's not actually calling her attacks like she's in an anime. Thematically, Light is one of the most fitting domains in the absence of Twilight - perhaps even more so, given that she's not a true Selûnite like Isobel.

They're merely the conduit for the divine power of their deity, gracefully bestowed upon them in time of need. And you don't HAVE to use these fire spells. Giving a lunar theme to Radiance of the Dawn, Warding Flare, or Flame Strike is trivial, and they're half the reason to pick the subclass in the first place.

>>543720768>why Selune would be granting thisIt's obvious to anyone who has played the game. Selûne is taking in a distraught Shadowheart, who has been forsaken by Shar, and allowing her continue being the cleric she is instead of some powerless child. And understanding that Shadowheart is no true Selûnite like Isobel, she is more lenient and willing to let her wield powers that can effectively serve her cause.>If the subclass weren't specifically called "light", there'd be no argument. If the abilities weren't named Radiance of the Dawn or "Flame" Strike, there'd be no argument. So call them Lunar Flare or Lunar Strike if you want. The names don't exist in-universe, you do realize?
>>543721495>Shadowheart is no true Selûnite like IsobelShadowheart was born a Selunite and would've been one if she wasn't kidnapped and brainwashed.
>>543721495Between those two, only Radiance does solely radiant damage, and Flame Strike deals both fire and radiant damage. This fits for Lathander because he represents the sun. Why does it fit for Selune? Why is Selune specifically giving Shadowheart the capacity to cast fire spells as part of her domain, even if she's deliberately not using them for some roleplay reason? If the abilities weren't named Radiance of the Dawn or "Flame" Strike, there'd be no argument. There's nothing hinting that they'd be Selunite powers, since the only fire-themed attacks she offers, used by Aylin, spread special moonfire that specifically only deals radiant damage.
>>543721809But that means she doesn't actually have any education in Selunite traditions or any of that shit. Selune just gives her a pass because of the situation. She basically just got a field promotion and wouldn't know shit.
>>543722014she doesn't actually have any education in Selunite traditions Her mind was wiped countless times so she probably did initially, she was doing a tradition when she was taken.
>>543722014Wouldn't it be more fitting to go for Life, then, since>she was trained as a healer for the Sharrans>life gets radiant strike to deal radiant damage>life is a Selune domain
>>543722280I suspect as a priestess of Shar she's probably taught a fair deal about them in their own warped context.

>>543722457Because he likes you
>>543722457If they were gonna add 2 druids they should've made one of them a shadow druid instead of having both be good aligned.
>>543721809She is no Selûnite in the moment. She is just a lost child asking for guidance, which is mercifully granted by a compassionate goddess.>>543721968Why is "Flame" Strike fire-themed when it's half-fire, half-radiant? Couldn't it also be radiant-themed under your logic? Selûne would allow Shadowheart to bend the rules somewhat. This is because the narrative (a goddess taking pity on a mortal) takes precedence over mechanics (but the rules state the spell also deals fire damage!).
>>543722457to fuck shadowheart for you
>>543722383There's honestly nothing wrong with her just keeping trickery other than the fact that it's a useless domain with nothing a cleric should ever need. She would be an exception as a cleric that suddenly turned, and that could just be a problem for tomorrow. I don't see why light from the moon can't also be fire and must be radiant damage personally (at least in the context of a game that doesn't offer the twilight domain), but whatever. I think knowledge is probably the most appropriate domain just because it's more similar, but without the sneaky/darkness shit. Healing domain would certainly make sense as a thing she would be motivated for (with her wound that can't be cured). Frankly I think she should just have the option to use divine intervention for that, but I guess that would kind of kill the tension of a certain choice.
>>543722841>Why is "Flame" Strike fire-themed when it's half-fire, half-radiant?Because casting it causes a burst of fire, hope this helps>Why not ignore that and what the gods grant every other follower of theirs? At this point, there should just be a mod that reflavors light to be more Selune-themed, since Aylin has moonfire for some of her moves.
>>543723126I don't know why Selune can't just heal her wound, Aylin says Shar and Selunes powers are equal and mirrored.

In the past I have played absolute shit out of KOTOR, KOTOR 2, and Dragon Age: Origins with dozens of full replays. I don't know man, there is something special about these classic turn-based RPGs and their story that you just can't stop once you are hooked. They are very relaxing and chill, it's like watching a good movie or a TV series. While there are these fixed and scripted major story points - the journey to the those major points is much more important and impactful. At same time I really enjoyed my first full playthrough through Witcher 3 which is an another amazing game, but I never replayed it - the 'action' element makes it slightly more exhausting.

>if you get knocked out before talking to Vlaakith and have Lae'zel in group, Vlaakith will talk to her instead and she automatically agrees to everything. Now I kind of want to know what happens if you have a companion Shadowheart in that scene, will she spill her spaghetti and get you a game over?
>>543732862>no personality>nothing interesting about him>boring design, he doesn't even have a unique starting outfit>his tiefling transformation leads to literally nothing>he does nothing in act 2>his story doesn't have a single interesting beat>mizora is underused>he doesn't have a sex scene>he has no chemistry with the companions>his backstory is the worst in the game
>>543749183Some of that I agree with, but he does have stuff to do in act 2
>>543747715I always systematically take out most of the zealots and adepts that patrol around well before the siege. Even z'rell and the 2 ogres can be taken out as long as you kill the eyes asap. the siege gets reduced to 4 zealots, like 2 adepts and the hobgoblin.
>>543720376Yeah several.I just sit back and enjoy. bg3 is my late night comfy game where I am under no time expectations and I'm just enjoying the nice graphics and fancy cutscenes and having fun rolling some dice, and of course spending time with me waifu. And when you're playing coop, you're focusing on that, so the parts of the game hat are similar between palythroughs have other stuff going on. coop really does make the game totally different. mods too, if you're feeling like the game is same-y between playthroughs, give additional encounters and tactician enhanced a look, they will liven it back up and make things feel fresh again.
>>543748392To obscure them from the enemy's ranged units? I just want them to keep out of the way. Ice Surface seems to be a good idea.>>543748445I'll go through the Kitchen to kind of flank their forces and to get the most out of the Gnolls. Keeping the Harpers alive and not aggroing them sounds to be the hardest part, and for that I feel they have to be contained.>>543749948I'm afraid it's too late for that. >>543757645>no bard companionthis is so lame
>>543737891a star is a sun>>543735871idk why there are some determined to make the fire cleric subclass fit selune. just do life cleric or knowledge cleric? shart "saw the truth" and revealed her true heritage so doesn't knowledge fit the most? trickery and knowledge are pretty similar already
>>543759125The problem with knowledge domain is that a lot of the stuff there is good if you're the party face but feels wasted on companion shart. Life cleric is good but means going full healslut, with no potent spellcasting for cantrips that knowledge and light both do get.
>>543759604well yeah knowledge isn't a very good domain. it's barely a step above trickery but it is the most logical one for her. trickery and knowledge have thematic overlap and some similar spells. trickery has a bit more focus on stealth while knowledge gets detect thoughts and speak with animals and stuff. both get cc spells like slow or fear. i feel like its supposed to be selune's life domain vs shar's death domain. selune's knowledge domain vs shar's trickery domain. trickery domain is about deceiving the enemy. knowledge domain is about finding the truth. if knowledge domain were powerful you guys would all be using it. instead you take light domain, which doesn't make much sense since its a fire cleric, because its better in combat. that's fine, you can do what ever you want in your game, but its weird people are saying its thematically the best. its clearly not. it doesn't suit her very well at all
>>543760402I've just had her using death domain even if she spares the Nightsong, instant respec at that moment doesn't really make sense since there is no story indicating her abilities change, just that someone else is providing them.

We can both justify our favored domain in our own way, but in practice, Light offers more thematic abilities - a wave of radiant energy, a sphere of light that dispels the darkness, a light flare that prevents damage - than Knowledge with its Confusion and Dominate Person spells, which a former Sharran might balk at using.

Bought this game and tried my hardest to enjoy it Can't understand shit : dice throws, save throws, combat, spells, what the fuck is going on in this shit ass story anyway ? 12 hours in and all I know is that I have something in my head that needs removing. How slow can this get ? Back to combat : why is it so hard ? Enemies all seem ten times more clever than I am, and I feel lucky to even land one blow, if any. Why do I have to prepare spell slots and not use any I know of when I feel like it ? Why does the game ask me to get prepared when I don't know what the fuck I'm going to face anyway? Here's 50 spells, chose well, you might need one in particular in the next 50 hours ! Or maybe not, who the fuck knowsI don't know what the fuck I am playing and I'm frustrated.

thinking about Savage Attackerintuitively I have the idea that a 0-100 roll with Advantage would average to 75 (yes that's not a D&D roll, it's just a hypothetical), but this might be completely wrong
Wyll should've been a rogue. One fag is asking me to play co-op. I might join him but I will make him look into my ugly character (Wyll) all the time to make him suffer. But I need at least one warlock level to keep it canon. Any good rogue/warlock multiclasses? Or just drop warlock? He sold his soul for power he doesn't even use.
>>543789971>>543790449I aint familiar with DnD Ill admit. All of this is confusing to me. I just wanted to play a nice RPG with a nice story. Can you even play this game without save scumming is my question : Game puts you in unfamiliar situations all the time and expects you to know 100% how to deal with each ? Do I need to watch Youtube essays regarding the game prior to playing it ?
>>543789806You're wasting your time. You're most likely going to look at the classes, get excited and plan a Fighter-Rogue-Wizard-Cleric build, then make your first character, probably on a shitter difficulty, only to kill yourself after the first 2 hours, and come back here asking what you did wrong, expecting us to spoonfeed you. We'll tell you to fuck off and read the OP and use the wiki like the rest of us, and you will. You'll make another character and try something new. You'll get to level 4 or so, get bored, and ask when the game gets fun. You'll eventually start asking inane questions, like what happens if you eat tadpoles, and we'll tell you to read the OP and fuck off again. You'll say something like, "Wah wah you bullies" and continue playing. You'll hit level 6 and realize this game is just about rolling dice so you can roll more dice. You'll complain about this here, and we'll tell you, "It's a D&D GAME, you faggot." A game in which you roll dice.Enjoy, you fucking moron. Get the fuck out of our general.
>>543792114you do need to read everything and at least try to understand it, including the combat log. the entire system is open and understandable, unlike other "RPGs" where mechanics are obscured. you can't just go in and basic attack all enemies without thinking and do well. use "t" to inspect descriptions and read the words in yellow, or turn tooltips on if you use a controllerpay attention to all aspects of an action : its cost, its range, if it's once per short rest/once per long rest, and whether it is concentration.
>>543792114Story mode and respec everyone to human male fighters at Withers (he'll appear in your camp)
>>543791416Savage Attacker is essentially Advantage for your damage rolls. Not a top Feat but useful regardless. (It doesn't have dedicated button, press J for the Journal and there will be on the right.) Alternatively look up beginner's guides that explain it.>How slow can this get ? Feel free to take your time. The narrative pushes you to rush but there's no need, you aren't on the timer at all.>Why do I have to prepare spell slots and not use any I know of when I feel like it ? Vancian casting. Deciding what you might need is part of the preparation. There's no "next 50 hours", since used Spell slots recharge at Long Rests (and you will surely do that a lot) that's your scope.
>>543792530Lol
>>543792114Restart as Astarion! He's overpowered! +1 to dice rolls at all times after Nautiloid! And he has the best dialogues too!
>>543789806>>543792114Perhaps watching a crash course on DnD mechanics wouldnt be a bad idea. But a lot of concepts are very similar to what youll find in other RPGs, dice are the analog version of a RNG.Stuff like rolling a 20 for a crit == 5% crit chance, and saving throws are equivalent to a resistance %.Save scumming/reading guides is up to you, but making shitty decisions on your first playthrough is part of the experienceAs for spells and spell slots, you can just ignore them at the beginning . Every spell casters has 1 or 2 spells that are strong, you can just spam those, e.g. spirit guardian for clerics. You can respec/change them at any point once you feel more comfortable with the mechanics
>>543792114You can absolutely play it without save scumming. Nobody excepts you to know 100% what's going to happen, half of the fun is adjusting on-fly and solving whatever the game throws at you. But you also have to be willing to learn at least the basics and be more and more familiar with the tools the game provides as you progress. In theory the built-in tutorial and actually reading descriptions should be enough but hovering over practically anything should also break down the numbers for you. Same goes for the combat log.
>>543791416A die starting with 0 doesn't make much sense for D&D. [2d100, drop lowest] has an expected value of around 67.16. In practice, the wiki already spoonfeeds you the average bonus damage for each damage die, so you can just plug in numbers.https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Savage_Attacker#Notes

okay bros, i finished full first map on the ground and explored all areas i could - now it wants me to go to mountain pass (have both entrances). i did not do the nightsong thing underground - should i do it before going to mountain pass? it tell me that i should blah-blah finish everything before proceeding, so i would assume there will be no way back? but the druid mfer also told me that the underground passage will take me to twin towers (or what was it called) - so if i go underground now will i miss the mountain pass thing? i kinda wanna do bothbtw game is so freaking good holy shit how did i sleep on it for couple of years

>>543807441>>543807792Reithwin was a prosperous town due to it's central location on the trade routes to Baldur's Gate: whether traders transported their goods on foot (Risen Road) or water (Chionthar) they had to go through it and pay for the privilege. This made the position of toll collector so important that a Thorm got appointed to do it. Gerringothe obviously excelled at the job but like the rest of her family she was a sheisty motherfucker. Even as the situation deteriorated around Ketheric and trade slowed down she still charged excessive fees, but as the sources started drying up she showed signs of obsession. She might have claimed to be a mere bureaucrat collecting funds for the town but in reality she needed the gold for her own sake. It wasn't about the love of service but the love of material wealth. This is what you use against her: passing a check basically gives her a reality check and see herself for what she is, and she probably recognizes she's beyond saving and there's only way out. Pointing out their hypocrisy, outsmarting them in their own games or exploiting their delusions is an important aspect with each Thorm mini-bosses.
>>543812010How dare you? He's a Karlach, Shadowheart, ad Lae'zel lover. I already held to deal with Wyll's gay ass before, isn't it enough that I went with the option to let Astarion drink his blood every night?
It's kind of disappointing that Baltazar never came back from the dead after all the talk about death not mattering with him.
>>543813301I'm kind of wondering if the Thorms were just always a corrupt as fuck crime family that were always Sharan's living in secret (until they no longer had to), and Isobel was just the exception that drank the koolaid of what they were only pretending to believe. Rather then him first falling to Shar and then Myrkul I mean. There's both cut content and intentional lack of information there, so it's hard to say, but that seems more consistent. It explains why he kept all his other relatives as undead mockeries anyway.

>>543814216>if the Thorms were just always a corrupt as fuck crime familyIt's implied that Ketheric solely became a Selunite for Melodia's sake.Whether that's actually the case is disputed as it's stated that Moonrise Towers was constructed for Ketheric *and* Selune, so him only swapping faith for the sake of marriage might seem odd, the mason essentially states that Reithwin / Moonrise was erected by Selunites. It's not like Act 2 is short on timeline inconsistencies, but Ketheric solely becoming a Selunite for sake of Selunite pussy could fit the bill.>It explains why he kept all his other relatives as undead mockeries anyway.Eh, Thisobald by his own words was cursed by Ketheric. My pet theory is that Thisobald leaked the information about Aylin / Nightsong to the outside world and was punished by Ketheric for it>Thisobald speculated about Ketheric's immortality>knows about Aylin / Nightsong>knowledge about Nightsong somehow ended up in Ramazith's notesit always bothered me that Lorroakan learned about Nightsong from Ramazith's notes when it's actually a carefully guarded secret.Thisobald selling that knowledge (or accidentally revealing it) to someone who then sold it to Ramazith seems not too far fetchedAs for the other two...who knows, Malus seems a die hard Sharran so Shar might have protected / twisted him.On the toll chick, i'm simply blank beyond that the Thorms might simply be a special case due to their family ties to Ketheric and their ancestral lands.

>>543825617Why wouldn't he? Progression with dialogues is often stored per character. In some cases it's treated as a one-time event (like quests can't be turned on multiple times) but otherwise this is roughly the norm. Despite this being one of the quirks of Larian's system they're not well prepared to handle it. I often use my companions to exhaust all dialogue options without reloading for unimportant NPCs and it led to some interesting situations. E.g. I unwittingly scammed the Asian-looking Harper who's willing to buy Yonas' blade from you. I've triggered her grieving scene with 3 of my party members without using the dedicated dialogue to sell the thing, and after doing it with my last companion she paid all 4 of us (4×125 Gold instead of 1×125 as reward). Or there's Mattis who acts like as if he still had the Tower-Shaped Key whenever I approach him with anyone but my Tav despite the fact that I looted the place it belongs to 20 hours ago.
Shadowheart casting guidance on you while doing nothing else to help when you're on the ground during Astarion's introduction/ambush is a pretty funny mental image

Circle of Stars kinda fucks with the Wild Shape "economy" in a way. They last until long rest or death, while the charges themselves refresh on Short Rest. Realistically, you only need one unless you somehow need every different form per rest (before level 10). But I'm guessing that's why it's a patch subclass rather than a vanilla subclass.
>>543847840This looks so fucking bad kek
I finally picked up BG3 in the last Steam sale and am giving it a proper run. Really enjoying it, but I'm conflicted on one specific thing:I started a run where I found myself relying on Astarion a lot and felt he was a requirement for my party, while also not really liking him as a character or feeling like he fit the characterization of my Tav.Wasn't too far in and decided to restart with a more fun Rogue/Ranger build of my own based on some of what I learned (and so I wouldn't have to rely on Astarion), while personality-wise playing them more like a kindred spirit to Karlach's attitude and outlook. Got to the bite night event, and felt like it was the right decision for my character and in the moment to defend myself, and found myself staking Astarion dead. The metagamer in me is yelling that obviously I shouldn't kill a companion, even if I don't personally like them or plan to use them in this run. I also feel kind of bad about how his death went. At the same time, I feel like it's in-character and the game broadly seems to agree with that conclusion, given pretty much the entire camp went "yep, good job killing the vampire who tried to suck you dry in your sleep, won't let someone like THAT in again."Was this *such* a bad choice for my first true run of the game that I should undo it and keep Astarion around? I'm more than aware I'll miss out on content, but I'm not sure how much and if I'll completely regret it hours and hours from now.
>>543852182Not exactly the same thing, but all things considered Lae'zel was very forgiving about that time I used friends to convince her to side against Vlaakith
>>543856125There's an area in the last act that has a major quest tied to him. Pretty sure you can still do it without him, but I haven't so I don't know the details. I'd say just run with it. You aren't missing out on anything other than hearing the character say shit for the most part
>>543856125no areas are locked out if you stake him but you do obviously miss his interaction in those events
>>543856125Objectively speaking, Astarion is one of the least involved companions with regard to the plot. Get rid of Lae'zel, and you miss out on the most knowledgeable person about the gith and the mind flayers. Get rid of Shadowheart, and you miss out on the most knowledgeable person about Shar, who happens to be very central to Act 2. No companion is strictly necessary - you have the freedom to kill every last one of them - but of the main ones, Astarion doesn't feel quite as "mandatory." BG3 is a game that incentivizes multiple playthroughs, so I wouldn't feel bad about killing Astarion if you feel that's in-character.
>>543859083>>543856125wyll is very involved in the main plot and he's objectively a garbage character that brings nothing to bg3, giving astarion the boot is a bad idea, he grows on most players and he has one of the coolest companion quests in the game + the game gives you tons of opportunities to fuck him over throughout the game which means that you'll get to have fun bullying him even if you hate his guts
The non-character is not even a character, so he wasn't considered in the context of that post. His relevance to the plot is purely incidental - his daddy is a very important person in Baldur's Gate - and you only really lose out on Mizora's sexiness if you dismiss him. He's also fine to get rid of if you dislike him. Each playthrough is its own story, and you should never feel obligated to recruit everyone just because it's the "right" thing to do.
>>543860789ok
Gale was more powerful than Jon Irenicus before the orb and tadpole
Daddy halsin is underrated
Why does nobody call minthara mommy?
>>543863813Jon Irenicus was a fucking loser and is only remembered fondly and thought of as a good villain because of his VA's performance.
>>543874318nah jon was cool they should have done something similar in bg3 and introduce the chosens earlier and let you talk to them, they were at some point planning on doing that, datamining showed that orin was supposed to show up in act 2 in the mountain pass to tadpole a dragon that's where voss was supposed to be wounded
>>543874318Irenicus is one of the most powerful wizards to ever live and is probably the only person to ever steal the Slayer form without it being gifted by Bhaal.
>>543863813>Gale was [HEADCANON]Irenicus was an epic level 30 in BG2, which would easily translate to a maximum level 20 in 5E after the level squish. He had access to 9th-level spells (including Time Stop), was immune to most disabling effects (including stun), and had 75% damage resistance if you somehow managed to bypass his defensive barriers (including Absolute Immunity). This is someone who attempted apotheosis and nearly succeeded. He would make "archmage" Gale look like a first-year apprentice still learning to cast cantrips.

>>543856125No, what your character would do is 100% the correct thing to do. You're playing the game correctly. There's nothing stopping you from playing a character in the future that is different and would keep him around, at which point you can see all his quests and conversations. He's a fun, well written character, but like you said he requires some serious leeway early on to even stay in the party. So maybe your next character will put up with his nonsense at the start and see what he does later. The game has a couple or a few playthroughs built into it anyway, between the various story decisions and using party members you didn't use much last time and various achievements and of course the various classes and races etc to play as.
bros which companions are most-impactful with regards to interaction with the world? im running with orc-like girl, shedevil, and magic addict. playing as shadowheart because initially she was pissing me off so much with her emo talks so i had two choices - either kill her or start a playthrough as her so she just shuts up.so far orc-like girl is the most active in dialogues and situations, gale is kinda lacking heavily although still providing some interesting context sometimes, and shedevil - sometimes i forget she is even in the group, she is very passive.im still finishing act 1 and it feels like like im missing on the context and dialogues. should i replace gale and shedevil with astarion and wyll or druid guy?i understand that all of them have various unique interactions at certain stages of the game, but which ones have the most of world engagement or are the most good all-around with regards to interactions for all acts?
>He’s a fun, well written character This is objectively untrue btw
>orc-like girl
>>543883001Toad and Shadowheart are fine when paired together. They have banter and relevance from Act 1-2. Gale is a good final pick because he’s the smarter foil to their pettiness and emotional bickeringI never use Karlach or Wyll. They just suck. Everything important/interesting in their story can be experienced even if they are benched from beginning to end Astarion has plenty of dialogue. His romance is exclusively for mentally challenged Tavs, but he brings some life to the party with his quips and comments. He has the best banter with Shadowheart and Toad The Druid guy is awful. He’s boring and storybound at first, but then he starts churning out sexual commentary from the moment he gets comfortable. His banter with other characters and idle comments are not worth sacrificing a party slow for. If you want to use a Druid, you get a better option later in the game My favorite party overall is Shadowheart, Gale, and either Toad/Astarion. They have the least offensive writing and the best banter
>>543884032True, that thing is not a girl
babygirl her tiny bootshis tiny neckstomp stomp stomp snap

>>543884103thanks bro, this was also my initial impression. really feels like the game art is giving a hint on best composition with regards to companion story and depth by their position: astarion, shadowheart, orc-like girl, and gale - all in front. wyll told me about his past life - it sounded kinda boring and generic, just like a typical spoiled rich kid going against his rich and powerful father. and even that was very limited so far.
>>543885267For a Shadowheart origin I would use Toad, use Gale(god romance path), and use Astarion for my final slot. Later when I unlock the final 2 companions, I would drop Toad/Astarion in that order until the 2 newer companion stories are concluded. I’m not exaggerating with Wyll. You lose nothing funny, interesting, or important by keeping him permanently benched. In reality, you’re gaining everything you would have missed if you did choose to keep him as a companion. Karlach is ironically the best IF Wyll is a companion, and just a dumb comic relief if by herself. She sucks, I would never use her, but she isn’t Wyll levels of bad. I would rather not play the game than play with Wyll in my party. With Karlach I can at least toy with martial builds, which I have done a few times
>>543877102Archmages are around level 20, Gale is a chosen of Mystra and he can actually succeed at becoming a god.
