It's not easy being Aubrey. And now that I think about it, this pinwheel's probably pink.It's interesting to me how much focus Aubrey's been getting this manga. Not that the other characters asides from Basil have been that neglected. We've been getting bits to flesh out the characters situations more, but Aubrey's been front and center with extra scenes. And it seems like the friends meeting up with Aubrey will be different from Omori since Aubrey's not locking herself up in her room. Unless she just wanders back and does that.

I was interested in reading the manga because they said it focused more on Aubrey, but after hearing what the changes were, honestly, my interest is back to zero.I mean, her situation was already miserable, and I think that staying with her mother because she believes she can improve might work, but her mother being directly abusive seems like an awful addition to me. It directly ruins the conflict Aubrey has and makes her look silly. If they had explored her relationship with her mother before she became abusive, that would make more sense, but I'm going to assume they simply haven't done that.

Aubrey's dad wanting to take Aubrey with him and begging her to come to the city is a very interesting development, and I like it. It addresses who exactly pays the bills and makes the adults out to be somewhat sensible instead of nearly all of them being terrible or neglectful. It also makes Aubrey's future a lot less bleak, education-wise. If her dad is rich enough to foot the bill for two homes and wants her to live with him in the city, there's hope for her. It also gives potential for a reunion with Sunny.

She clearly thinks they abandoned her, maybe even that they're better off without her. And Hero "choosing" Basil and Sunny over Aubrey probably hurts nearly as much as Aubrey's dad walking out on her and her mom. I started re-reading the manga, and my god is it stupid and cringe. I forgot Sunny randomly passed out after stabbing Aubrey. So I guess he already passed out 2 times in the manga while hanging out with Kel, who is such a good friend that he thought nothing of it. I don't even know why, because there are headspace transitions where Sunny is simply daydreaming or someshit. In fact he alternates between passing out and daydreaming. Is he going to pass out the 3rd time? I guess we will find out next month, or whenever Nui feels like releasing a new chapter.
