I'm the OP who asked the initial question. My main is rogue in retail and has been for years. I love rogue, but never played rogue back in vanilla/TBC. I joined during ICC and mained Mage for years. Didn't play rogue seriously til maybe 2014/15. How different is it from back in vanilla?
Also, I am very intrigued by trying Druid because it sounds interesting to be able to sort of be a jack of all trades that can switch to what's needed on a whim, but I know Rogue has much better chances of survival in getting ganked. Do you think it'd still be something fun?

The population is shrinking, but that's normal for this point in the expac. People are burnt out on this phase, and have hit a wall in their progression. At this point you're either 16/16H and bis, or hardstuck on a boss (Amber Shaper in this case). Either way, people get bored and start dropping.
Before people start dooming, Wrath and Cata had the exact same trends in population by their 12th weeks. It's just the natural flow of these raidlog expacs. It doesn't worry me. rogue really excel in getting the drop on someone and winning fights more so than just running away as any dot will break their stealth and unless you spec into CC breaks on sprint you can be left pretty vulnerable

I quit leveling for TBC because faggot hunters keep killing me in every zone every 10 minutes. I made it to level 34.

First of all, they are opening fresh tbc servers at prepatch (which are probably going to stay tbc era). You should be leveling on those when they come.

Second, only clueless or masochistic brainlets roll on pvp servers

Pvp servers were great 20 years ago, when the people there were still mainly trying to level and experience the game as a whole and kinda shit at the game, it gave zones a bit of uncertainty knowing you could encounter randoms that may be a problem, but knowing they weren't decked out perfectly and on a mission to kill you.

Sometimes you'd see a rogue of the opposite faction kill mobs nearby, then you wouldn't see him anymore, and you realize you shouldn't go all in on mobs for he might be getting ready to strike.
Sometimes you get to save someone from another player.
Sometimes you die and get to look forward to round 2.
Sometimes emote-diplomacy de-escalates a tense encounter.
Sometimes you got magical moments when you do cross-faction quests, unable to communicate with words and you both decide to not murder each other, and you understand enough that both of you need to kill some elite and stick around for each other.

It's sadly not something I think you can really get back.
Even new mmos with pvp may not be able to capture that experience fully, since there's so much readily available info online.

Obviously classic wow ""parsers"" are notoriously dogshit at the game. That being said you aren't getting 99s with no shaman on competitive classes, precisely because the rotations are pretty simple. Even without parsing playing a dps warrior without windfury just sucks ass, you literally don't have enough rage to even do your rotation.

in classic plus warriors will only be able to get windfury buff if they say thank you to shamans and respect them
