The actual damage taken is then lost.So let's say you take a hit and then armour or resists or whatever reduce it down to 100 damage, then you take 40 off of that to 60 damage taken and you take that damage. Then 4 seconds later you lose life equal to 40% of that 60 damage, 24 life lost. Which will incidentally kill you immediately if you're CI. The life loss is unmitigatable, but it will be 60% less than the damage you took from the hit. According to the wording here.The downside is actually pretty massive though. No timeless jewel, no wildwood jewel, fewer jewel slots in general. That's a huge amount of power you're giving up for this admittedly strong defensive layer.
