Sorcerer powerspike comes at level 5-6 when you get your subclass abilities but you need to focus on a damage type. Simple cantrips start doing serious damage when you have dragonic bloodline damage buff + necklace from the creche and you later even get potent rope for triple CHA dip.

I feel the atmosphere and making my own fun saved me. 90% of my time down there was spent with Glut and the Bulette in my party.Long story short sometimes you just have to say "Fuck it!" and jump in the middle of things in this game and/or keep aggressively pushing with no distractions. I enjoyed Act2 being more concentrated but the mid-game that felt a little bloated in Act 1 is practically missing there. And that's with limiting the scope of my exploration to the Art storyline, as it leads to Halsin joining as a companion and you want that ASAP. Then you do a little exploration, solve the two Thorn mini-bosses you deliberately avoided, finish like 2 short side quests and you only have that major location left that takes up the last 3rd of the Act and railroads you to the end-game.

If I were you I'd consider a Fighter (Battle Master or Eldritch Knight) who can be in the enemy's face and take the heat off your allies, some Life-like Cleric in Heavy Armor who can be the ultimate party-saver if shit happens (and it will happen on Honour) or maybe a Wizard if the others are willing to keep you safe for CC (and to get those INT-based skill checks covered). Just figure out who's going to open locks, solve stealth sections and maybe pickpocket (hint: it's the Monk with a proper background and/or Thief dips).

In the former they're leaning towards level 6 and being githyanki means tough to fight against, but as long as you can pass some checks and behave yourself combat is mostly optional. Just be aware that entering the Pass for the first time furthers the world state, meaning some basic companions/quests/events you probably completed ages ago won't be available anymore. Both areas have an entrance to Act 2 but if you don't proceed right away you can visit the other and complete that area too. I can only recommend! Then you can decide which way to take to the next act.
