Every mystery, every strange occurrence, every character’s mental breakdown... all traced back to Jenova. It flattens what could’ve been an interesting exploration of Sephiroth and Cloud's psyche and their own agency and desires about their identity into just another case of manipulation.Imagine instead if the “mimic” aspect of Jenova's cells had evolved beyond predatory camouflage... into something like a survival mechanism for consciousness itself in humans. Something that reshapes identity and perception as a way to endure emotional and mental collapse. Then Sephiroth’s instability wouldn’t just be him being controlled, but the result of his own psyche's conflicts and desires interacting with that adaptive survival ability instead. it could have mirrored Cloud's struggle and story. It could have been something cool and tragic about identity, memory, and how people reconstruct themselves under trauma and extreme dissonance. But instead… it’s all just Jenova.It's the difference between "the devil made me do it" and "I became the devil."

E33 was a 7/10 game that had a great start but left a bad taste in my mouth. I haven't even thought about it since I finished it except for when shitposters bring it up. I actually think my opinion of the game has gotten worse over time. I might even think it's a 6/10 now, even though it had an amazing start. Every time I am reminded of it, I am reminded of my disappointment with how Act III turned out. Look Outside was a 6/10 game that I wanted to quit halfway through, but the ending was so good that it left a lasting impression on me. I've thought about Look Outside many times since completing it, and I even thought about Look Outside while I was still playing E33 (I played them back to back). Over time, my opinion of Look Outside has actually gotten better. There's apparently a new patch that I haven't played. I might consider it to be a 7/10 or even an 8/10 now, due to how great the ending is and due to the fact that I still reflect on it and it's always positive when I do so.

The New Threat gameplay and QoL mod for FF7 alters the scipt to be more "clear" and makes Sephiroth outright state that his goal is to first drain the planet, then travel to other ones.
