The ability to act against it is a major defining trait of humans. Then the power somewhere in the middle of trying to control our behaviour through psyops, algorithms, propaganda, advertising or magic. We can still recognise and overcome this form of control to various degrees. It's why understanding mental health issues is not a pass for bad behaviour.Could we be programs in a simulation who are created to believe they are in control of their own thoughts? This would be utterly redundant and still free will as far as we can define it.
