Its a strategy/rpg/colony builder hybrid where you operate the big fuck off ship housing remnants of humanity.
And you build up the ship "sectors" ( thats regular Rimworld game play ) as well as send out mining/science ships to gather resources/advance the plot/find science points to research shit, you send out probes to find stuff in the solar system with a help of neat little mechanic where you manually launch it by watching the probablity of finding stuff on a cool tracker.
Every ship has a name and its own dedicated bay, they take time to not only for them to actually gather stuff but also arrive back and forth which can be influenced by moving your main ship ( which comes with its own problems ) etc.
It would be amazing if Odyssey was cool like that and with added bonuses of actually modyfing these smaller ships, unique resrouces in space etc.

anecdote: I didn't change my modlist, I closed rimworld and restarted my computer. On next rimworld launch, the game was broken on launch because 1 out of 10 mods that were not yet converted to local were updated and no longer worked in the modlist.
I've had several mods that had a crucial update, but Workshop is retarded sometimes and no matter what the author does, it skips downloading the 1.6 folder inside the mod, breaking the mod.

Most of Unagi textures are around 512x512 which is pointless
For context vanilla Rimworld textures are either 64x64 or 128x128 while upscaled mods are typically 256x256
There is no point in having a 512x512 facial animation, if you halve every single texture in Unagi Facial Animation and reduce it to an uniform 256x256 you will not notice any difference and save like 500 megabytes from Unagi.

Should I play with ambient anomaly settings? I am trying to go through the wiki to see what I miss out on if I choose ambient anomaly but I find it really hard to judge. I can tell from reading that I miss out on the Obelisk but I don't really know what that entails. I assume it is connected to other Anomaly events. Does playing with it enabled force your hand into a strict run or what do you miss out on if you don't in detail?

I have not, but from what I've seen of it it does look fun
using the obelisk basically triggers the anomaly events to happen so you'll experience that and all
and your goal is to capture them and research them, to do more stuff with the obelisk and all that
its basically a not-scp themed run
it doesn't lock you out of anything, but if you want to experience anomaly stuff ambient is better if you have a different idea of the run you want to do like for instance with the mechanoids

Ambient anomaly by default has a high chance of anomaly events happening, entirely possible to get bad luck and have them happen non-stop back to back. Kidnapping cultist and chaining sightstealer howls get annoying after a few times. Just change the anomaly incident chance in the story teller settings down to like 10%.

It's a low detail game. There aren't really animations. Now you add legs, and pawns are just sliding around with stiff legs. Before it relied on your imagination, now it's jank.
Maybe it could sort of work if they had animated, disembodied hands and feet like those old madness flash games, but it wouldn't look good on animals so consistency flies out the window.
And don't get me started on the stumps cut off at the knee most body mods have. HAR at least has full legs. But stumps? Garbage. Get on one side or the other.

I'm not quite sure. It creates this thing, which looks like a blueprint designation, but can't be delivered to or built. It's also marked for hauling by default, which might be one of my mods, but no shelf even has an option to store this malformed afterbirth of an item(at least, I think it's an item and not a blueprint). The only gizmo interactions it has are cancel(which makes it disappear), allow/forbid and build copy(which makes a proper, unbugged carpet blueprint). I can't force my pawns to do anything with it by selecting them and right clicking on it either. It seems quite harmless, all things considered, though I hope plasteel deposits I scan in the future won't turn into this mess as well.

I can't say for certain but it seems the library that the race mod depends on does a performance hit, and it's specifically heavier on it compared to the other mod (Milira) that depends on the same library. Every run I had with Kiiro ends with my TPS in the 200 range even with radically different modlists, but I can't really say it's them causing it or there's another mod that I always use with them for some reason. HAR itself is also somewhat costly

I guess I'm not playing anymore
I updated to 1.6 recently, mod list got 56 errors suddenly when it was 0 in 1.4. I narrowed it down to 13 errors after updating the XML mods and grabbing the continues.

there's a reason why almost one one complains about not having those 2 mods anymore, 1.6 had a bunch of performance improvements and a dramatic boost in bootup time was one of them so your autism is earning you that massive load time
