>New to the Musou-verse?
The musou genre is expansive so this is a quick terms rundown, but see the newcomer pastebin for more information.
>Dynasty Warriors - the original, mainline series based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel
>XL / Xtreme Legends - essentially expansions for DW games
>Empires - a light strategy DW spin-off, you conquer & manage territory instead of following a story
>Samurai Warriors - DW, but based on Japan's history
>Warriors Orochi - Crossover between DW & SW
>Romance of the Three Kingdoms - an epic novel, telling a romanticized version of historical events
>There's multiple other IP spin-offs with Musou gameplay, including One Piece and Zelda.
>Romance of the Three Kingdoms - A series of video games set in China during the fall of the Han Empire.

sadly yeah that's how it goes down almost every time. you can do things to offset it a bit but its how it goes. in rotk7/8 (and 1-4) you can if playing the pc versions use exile and play as multiple rulers and sometimes I have him go into exile with no officers and move him to a faaaaar location out of the way and settle him with nothing and than cpu him again. ive only done it a few times but yeah unless you play as him forget it past 194.

Might as well post those here, for people who are curious about what the fuck is going on behind the scenes especially on that one map.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMcAn6Z25AE
(Effect of attack/defense boosting items and the drums on off-screen ally performance)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRWjH0lMs8U
(testing raw ATK/DEF differences)

tl;dr
Having more attack than defense in DW3 makes your allies survive more.
Having more defense than attack makes our allies die faster
The fastest time possible for all your army to drop at Yiling in Very Hard is around 1 minute and 30 seconds, the longest time is over 40 minutes, although those are only achievable with really large differences not seen in normal gameplay.
If you equipped the tortoise amulet it was your fault all along.

Indeed.
>>
>>544692784
I just learned this last night. the atk and def items make the enemy stronger. I tested it by codebreaking both items to be +99. massive increase in difficulty. yiling was wild with how fast everyone dropped and how tough all the enemies were. even soldiers were way tougher now. And I tested it on assault on we territory since liu yong goes down so quick so often and the whole map everyone got wiped a ton quicker with the +99 atk and def equipped. this is even on the easiest settings the enemies are much tougher. I than enabled the 7 flag mod (basically the map plays as if its a 7 flag difficulty) and holy shit forget it. I mean you can win but the enemies just take forever. even zhang jiaos peasant mountain village stage the peasants couldnt do shit to those pathetic lt and the commander. basically DONT use atk + def up items or the game will get harder. use the charge flask which DOESNT add to the diffIculty and adds more damage to your charge attacks. no penalty like atk or def items do.
>>
>>544693585
The real redpill is that tortoise amulet causes the infamous DW3 archers as well. Genuinely the most fucked up item in the game.
They get more attack but you don't get more bow defense without another item or weapon stat.
>>
>>544693585
Does the Nanman Armor trigger it too?
>>
>>544695227
Not him but.
It only uses your Attack and Defense stats, if they aren't getting boosted directly by weapon stats/tiger/tortoise then it doesn't count.

About using the items in general, the idea is that they work well on early stages cause the enemies have lower bases and the scaling depends on that, so you will outpace the enemy buffs. High flag stages are the wild ones.

Also enemies are always stronger than allies except bodyguards and playing on Easy mode so this >>544692937 is always a thing

Also props to this guy.
If it wasn't for the game being coded to make subofficers retreat when the general is defeated, he can always survive the longest. Possibly because he didn't forget to make his troops actually fight before charging the enemies with only him and his bodyguards.
>>
>>544697763
Ha there's a mod to keep subofficers from fleeing and that guy is a consistant issue in wan fight.

I'm in a wierd mood I want to play the games for different reasons. dw3xl because its awesome and I can play as generics and npcs and have tons of work to do, dw4xl and dw5xl for extreme mode. dw5e for empires and some of the fun of it. dw8xl to grind out characters and unlock stages and dw8e to beat everyone up in raids over and over until someone else just strolls in and takes over. also dw9 since im grinding everyone out in the last stage on the hardest difficulty using the cheese koei left in of sniping with bows for instakills and being able to go from level 1 to 70 in 30 minutes of sneaking and sniping in bandit areas and I wanna push some people to that spot to goof off on easy at high levels. welp thanks koei for making so many games to fuck around in,
>>
>>544711929

Appearently I am the only musou player up at 2 am range
>>
>>544711929
For stages like Yiling it would be highest attack possible vs lowest defense possible. This is kinda easy to achieve actually because the weapons are always giving you attack, if you put on the tiger amulet you are getting a little more, and if your character hasn't maxed out defense you might find yourself at the 150/75 difference.
Going all the way to keeping defense at minimum is dangerous, but it's ideal to not ever use tortoise amulet.
>>
what do we expect for DW3 remastered
>>
>>544742318
Same playable cast and maps as DW3XL but there might be DLC additions
Movesets that have similar animations but longer range/damage
I feel like Sho does care about the older fans so he might sneak in enemies who are more aggressive to placate them, but not every single enemy because obvious reasons
Archers are confirmed still powerful so they will do more damage than DW8 at least. Might not do the same as DW3 tho

Individual unit morale stars are brought back but might not work exactly like it did in DW3, namely because if it did you could take off 2 stars from an unit with a single square string due to the higher amount of troops on screen at the same time/higher range on weapon. As a result, maps will be less scripted like the older games
Big maybe the courage system from Origins gets ported.

Bodyguards were mentioned as a notable feature from DW3 so you can pray they will actually be back. I have no idea, but come the fuck on, it's not DW3 without that.

Unfortunately the only way would be knowing the memory addresses of enemy officer stats on a given map, then try to start the map with different Attack/Defense player stats and see how they change.

Stop dying while I'm about to beat DW3 Zhuge Liang's musou mode on hard.
It's fucking over either way.
>>
>>544744624
I wonder how much this discovery would make Very Hard easier on most stages. Once you're past the 2nd stage or so in someone's musou mode it ramps up in difficulty and a lot of the later stages get particularly hard because of how fast your allies go down
>>
>>544766901
There are 5 factors to keep in mind to save your allies:
>individual morale, an unit can only be fully defeated by an enemy with higher morale
>whether the commanding officer is directly involved in a fight, the troops will meat shield them in most maps(not Yiling for Shu or Hefei for Yuan Shao)
>whether the unit they are fighting has subofficers approaching the target general, enemy troops are weaker than named characters even off-screen
>how many enemy units have engaged an ally unit in a fight, this is actually beneficial for you because if you clip them, whoever was involved in a fight will get a morale boost
>player attack/defense difference as seen above

Also never forget that if the player character is somebody who appears in the stage normally, for instance at WZP earlier the enemies can't really do much if you are playing Zhuge Liang yourself, and if they try to rush your main camp most likely they will be at 8 stars and actually kill them. I managed to make them get Zhen Ji off screen.

And I have to max her in dw4xl/dw5xl/dw4-5e. I also have a game with her in rotk13 saved but that's one of those unsure what to do things. plus I have a bunch of other officers I work on and play and rotate through including some generics and others using the games and mods and playing as them in rotk 7,8,10,13. Probably on ice. Sho even said if Origins didn't meet expectations it'd be the end of DW which indicates their in-house musou games are on thin ice compared to how much money the licensed ones make. A pitch for a new SW would need to simultaneously not just be an Origins copy as they'd rather just put more money into making DW big again as Origins has given them the chance to, and it also can't just be another bog standard PS3 era musou because they can just do that with Zelda and sell millions of copies in a week

>which indicates their in-house musou games are on thin ice compared to how much money the licensed ones make
A shame that hackers don't care enough about Koei Tecmo to leak the company's sales and budget data. I would really love to know how much of a budget they typically give their games. Because it always feels like even more expensive endeavors like DWO are given shoestring budgets compared to some of the budgets that big-name western games get.
Obviously, I'm not expecting Koei Tecmo games to have the budget of Naughty Dog or Rockstar. But until Koei Tecmo stops being stingy with their budgets (and I genuinely believe they are extremely stingy), then their games will never reach the top echelons of financial success.

Still pondering the mystery of why Courage is so massively impactful in offscreen Origins battle except for when 2 rank Courage Zhang Liao gets completely destroyed at Hulao Gate by a bunch of 0 Courage officers
>>
>>545049406
Doesn't it also have morale?
>>
>>545049642
Morale is more of a baseline modifier that affects otherwise even battles more than lopsided ones. Number of officers in a battle also impacts the formula, the more the better. Courage is still the biggest modifier IIRC, an officer on the side with losing morale but 1 Courage still usually beats a 0 Courage officer. 2 and 3 Courage officers almost always demand the player defeat them except for Zhang Liao, who will barely dent a couple 0 Courage officers at Hulao Gate even at even morale before getting wiped out. I almost wonder if they hardcoded that fight somehow.

Im still in shock learning the atk/def and enemies getting stronger with them on and now im looking at lu bu and his 4th and going huh guess it isnt as grand a weapon as we thought knowing the diff increase thing. that being said no atk/def but a strong +charge flask and bow def helps a ton. and the archers are tons weaker now without ark/def equipped.

You know getting chatbot image gens to use older video game graphics are a chore. it LOVES to default to tags and assumes the moment you mention anything retro it needs to have the retro tag and thus it forces it into a style. very annoying trying to get something like the fm-7 to image gen when it keeps trying to go to pixel and other stuff instead due to tags overwriting things.

that being said its better than it was last year.
in a moment im going to get annoyed though and stop and go play some dw games for a bit. slaughter everyone with lu bu or something.
