Linton knew nothing about Cathy, not even her favorite flower, but said he loved her nonetheless, as he thought the only thing he had that made him happy (his family's money) would make her happy. Cathy loves the idea of Linton loving her but not Linton himself which is sadly something a lot of people end up doing or going through. They don't actually like the person but like being liked and of course, the main message Demian leaves us with of loving every rose and forgetting your own, which is what Cathy (and every Cathy) did alongside Erlking. They left behind the one they truly loved for the idea of making everyone happy. I think what I like the most is that the canto wasn't just Heath's but also Cathy's. Assuming their thoughts and actions is something that constantly happens during the canto, and they learned that they need to hear it directly. They need to ask what they truly feel and mean.
This series never stood a chance when Netzach and Chesed existed from day 1, don't lie to yourself by believing that it's Limbus that drove a stake into its heart
